Господь погубит филистимлян, остаток тех, кто пришел с берегов Кафтора[2]. 5 Газа в знак скорби обреет голову, притихнет Ашкелон. О, уцелевшие в долине, сколько еще будете наносить раны себе? 6 – О, меч Господень! Сколько пройдет времени, прежде чем ты успокоишься? Вернись в свои ножны, уймись, перестань. 7 Как же он успокоится, если так повелел Господь, если Он его обнажил на Ашкелон и его побережья?

1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down Gaza. (Jer 25,20; Hes 25,15; Am 1,6; Zef 2,4; Zef 2,5) 2 “Thus says the Lord: Behold, waters are rising out of the north, and shall become an overflowing torrent; they shall overflow the land and all that fills it, the city and those who dwell in it. Men shall cry out, and every inhabitant of the land shall wail. (Jes 8,7; Jer 1,13; Jer 8,16; Jer 46,7) 3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels, the fathers look not back to their children, so feeble are their hands, (Jer 46,5; Nah 3,2) 4 because of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains. For the Lord is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastland of Caphtor. (1Mo 10,14; Jes 23,1; Jer 25,22; Jer 47,1; Joe 3,4; Am 1,8; Am 9,7) 5 Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon has perished. O remnant of their valley, how long will you gash yourselves? (Ri 1,18; Jes 3,24; Jer 25,20; Jer 48,37) 6 Ah, sword of the Lord! How long till you are quiet? Put yourself into your scabbard; rest and be still! (5Mo 32,41; Hes 21,3) 7 How can it[1] be quiet when the Lord has given it a charge? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore he has appointed it.” (Ri 1,18; Jer 25,20; Hes 14,17; Mi 6,9)
