1 İsa oradan ayrılarak kendi memleketine gitti. Öğrencileri de ardından gittiler. 2 Şabat Günü olunca İsa havrada öğretmeye başladı. Söylediklerini işiten birçok kişi şaşıp kaldı. ‹‹Bu adam bunları nereden öğrendi?›› diye soruyorlardı. ‹‹Kendisine verilen bu bilgelik nedir? Nasıl böyle mucizeler yapabiliyor? 3 Meryem'in oğlu, Yakup, Yose, Yahuda ve Simun'un kardeşi olan marangoz değil mi bu? Kızkardeşleri burada, aramızda yaşamıyor mu?›› Ve gücenip O'nu reddettiler. 4 İsa da onlara, ‹‹Bir peygamber, kendi memleketinden, akraba çevresinden ve kendi evinden başka yerde hor görülmez›› dedi. 5 Orada birkaç hastayı, üzerlerine ellerini koyarak iyileştirmekten başka hiçbir mucize yapamadı. 6 Halkın imansızlığına şaşıyordu. 7 On iki öğrencisini yanına çağırdı ve onları ikişer ikişer halk arasına göndermeye başladı. Onlara kötü ruhlar üzerinde yetki verdi. (Mat 10:5; Luk 9:1) 8 Yolculuk için yanlarına değnekten başka bir şey almamalarını söyledi. Ne ekmek, ne torba, ne de kuşaklarında para götüreceklerdi. 9 Onlara çarık giymelerini söyledi. Ama, ‹‹İki mintan giymeyin›› dedi. 10 ‹‹Bir yere gittiğiniz zaman, oradan ayrılıncaya dek hep aynı evde kalın›› diye devam etti. 11 ‹‹İnsanların sizi kabul etmedikleri, sizi dinlemedikleri bir yerden ayrılırken, onlara uyarı olsun diye ayağınızın altındaki tozu silkin!›› 12 Böylece öğrenciler yola çıkıp insanları tövbeye çağırmaya başladılar. 13 Birçok cin kovdular; birçok hastayı, üzerlerine yağ sürerek iyileştirdiler. 



14 Kral Hirodes de olup bitenleri duydu. Çünkü İsa'nın ünü her tarafa yayılmıştı. Bazıları, ‹‹Bu adam, ölümden dirilen Vaftizci Yahya'dır. Olağanüstü güçlerin onda etkin olmasının nedeni budur›› diyordu. (Mat 14:1; Luk 9:7) 15 Başkaları, ‹‹O İlyas'tır›› diyor, yine başkaları, ‹‹Eski peygamberlerden biri gibi bir peygamberdir›› diyordu. 16 Hirodes bunları duyunca, ‹‹Başını kestirdiğim Yahya dirildi!›› dedi. 17-18 Hirodes'in kendisi, kardeşi Filipus'un karısı Hirodiya'nın yüzünden adam gönderip Yahya'yı tutuklatmış, zindana attırıp zincire vurdurmuştu. Çünkü Hirodes bu kadınla evlenince Yahya ona, ‹‹Kardeşinin karısıyla evlenmen Kutsal Yasa'ya aykırıdır›› demişti. 19 Hirodiya bu yüzden Yahya'ya kin bağlamıştı; onu öldürtmek istiyor, ama başaramıyordu. 20 Çünkü Yahya'nın doğru ve kutsal bir adam olduğunu bilen Hirodes ondan korkuyor ve onu koruyordu. Yahya'yı dinlediği zaman büyük bir şaşkınlık içinde kalıyor, yine de onu dinlemekten zevk alıyordu. 21 Ne var ki, Hirodes'in kendi doğum gününde saray büyükleri, komutanlar ve Celile'nin ileri gelenleri için verdiği şölende beklenen fırsat doğdu. 22 Hirodiya'nın kızı içeri girip dans etti. Bu, Hirodes'le konuklarının hoşuna gitti. Kral genç kıza, ‹‹Dile benden, ne dilersen veririm›› dedi. 23 Ant içerek, ‹‹Benden ne dilersen, krallığımın yarısı da olsa, veririm›› dedi. 24 Kız dışarı çıkıp annesine, ‹‹Ne isteyeyim?›› diye sordu. ‹‹Vaftizci Yahya'nın başını iste›› dedi annesi. 25 Kız hemen koşup kralın yanına girdi, ‹‹Vaftizci Yahya'nın başını bir tepsi üzerinde hemen bana vermeni istiyorum›› diyerek dileğini açıkladı. 26 Kral buna çok üzüldüyse de, konuklarının önünde içtiği anttan ötürü kızı reddetmek istemedi. 27 Hemen bir cellat gönderip Yahya'nın başını getirmesini buyurdu. Cellat zindana giderek Yahya'nın başını kesti. 28 Kesik başı bir tepsi üzerinde getirip genç kıza verdi, kız da annesine götürdü. 29 Yahya'nın öğrencileri bunu duyunca gelip cesedi aldılar ve mezara koydular. 



30 Elçiler, İsa'nın yanına dönerek yaptıkları ve öğrettikleri her şeyi O'na anlattılar. (Mat 14:13; Luk 9:10; Yu 6:1) 31 İsa onlara, ‹‹Gelin, tek başımıza tenha bir yere gidelim de biraz dinlenin›› dedi. Gelen giden öyle çoktu ki, yemek yemeye bile vakit bulamıyorlardı. 32 Tekneye binip tek başlarına tenha bir yere doğru yol aldılar. 33 Gittiklerini gören birçok kişi onları tanıdı. Halk civardaki bütün kentlerden yaya olarak yola dökülüp onlardan önce oraya vardı. 34 İsa tekneden inince büyük bir kalabalıkla karşılaştı. Çobansız koyunlara benzeyen bu insanlara acıdı ve onlara birçok konuda öğretmeye başladı. 35-36 Vakit ilerlemişti. Öğrencileri İsa'ya gelip, ‹‹Burası ıssız bir yer›› dediler, ‹‹Vakit de ilerledi. Halkı salıver de çevredeki çiftlik ve köylere gidip kendilerine yiyecek alsınlar.›› 37 İsa ise, ‹‹Onlara siz yiyecek verin›› diye karşılık verdi. Öğrenciler İsa'ya, ‹‹Gidip iki yüz dinarlık ekmek alıp onlara yedirelim mi yani?›› diye sordular. 38 İsa onlara, ‹‹Kaç ekmeğiniz var, gidin bakın›› dedi. Öğrenip geldiler, ‹‹Beş ekmekle iki balığımız var›› dediler. 39 İsa herkesi küme küme yeşil çayıra oturtmalarını buyurdu. 40 Halk yüzer ellişer kişilik bölükler halinde oturdu. 41 İsa beş ekmekle iki balığı aldı, gözlerini göğe kaldırarak şükretti; sonra ekmekleri böldü ve halka dağıtmaları için öğrencilerine verdi. İki balığı da hepsinin arasında paylaştırdı. 42-43 Herkes yiyip doydu. Artakalan ekmek ve balıktan on iki sepet dolusu topladılar. 44 Yemek yiyen erkeklerin sayısı beş bin kadardı. 



45 Bundan hemen sonra İsa öğrencilerine, tekneye binip kendisinden önce karşı yakada bulunan Beytsayda'ya geçmelerini buyurdu. Bu arada kendisi halkı evlerine gönderecekti. (Mat 14:22; Yu 6:15) 46 Onları uğurladıktan sonra, dua etmek için dağa çıktı. (Mat 13:53; Luk 4:16) 47-48 Akşam olduğunda, tekne gölün ortasına varmıştı. Yalnız başına karada kalan İsa, öğrencilerinin kürek çekmekte çok zorlandıklarını gördü. Çünkü rüzgar onlara karşı esiyordu. Sabaha karşı İsa, gölün üstünde yürüyerek onlara yaklaştı. Yanlarından geçip gidecekti. 49 Onlar ise, gölün üstünde yürüdüğünü görünce O'nu hayalet sanarak bağrıştılar. 50 Hepsi O'nu görmüş ve dehşete kapılmıştı. İsa hemen onlara seslenerek, ‹‹Cesur olun, benim, korkmayın!›› dedi. 51 Tekneye binip onlara katılınca rüzgar dindi. Onlarsa büyük bir şaşkınlık içindeydi. 52 Ekmekle ilgili mucizeyi bile anlamamışlardı; zihinleri körelmişti. 



53 İsa'yla öğrencileri gölü aştılar, Ginnesar'da karaya çıkıp tekneyi bağladılar. (Mat 14:34) 54 Onlar tekneden inince, halk İsa'yı hemen tanıdı. 55 Bazıları koşarak bütün yöreyi dolaştı. İsa'nın bulunduğu yeri öğrenenler, hastaları şilteleriyle oraya götürmeye başladılar. 56 Köy olsun, kent ya da çiftlik olsun, İsa'nın gittiği her yerde, hastaları meydanlara yatırıyor, sadece giysisinin eteğine dokunmalarına izin vermesi için yalvarıyorlardı. Dokunanların hepsi de iyileşti.

1 He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. (Mat 2:23; Mat 13:54; Luk 4:16; Luk 4:23) 2 And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? (Mat 4:23; Mat 7:28; Mar 1:21; Luk 4:31; Luk 6:6; Luk 13:10; Elç 13:14) 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. (Mat 11:6; Mat 13:55; Mar 3:31; Luk 4:22; Yu 6:42) 4 And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” (Yer 11:21; Yer 12:6; Luk 4:24; Yu 4:44; Yu 7:5) 5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. (Yar 19:22; Mar 5:23; Mar 9:23) 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went about among the villages teaching. (Mat 8:10; Mat 9:35; Mat 11:1; Luk 8:1; Luk 13:22) 



7 And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. (Mat 10:1; Mat 10:5; Mat 10:9; Mar 3:13; Luk 9:1; Luk 9:3; Luk 10:4; Luk 22:35) 8 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— 9 but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics.[1] (Elç 12:8) 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” (Neh 5:13; Mar 1:44; Elç 13:51; Elç 18:6) 12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. (Mat 3:2; Mat 4:17; Mat 10:7; Luk 9:6) 13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them. (Mar 6:12; Yak 5:14) 



14 King Herod heard of it, for Jesus’[2] name had become known. Some[3] said, “John the Baptist[4] has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.” (Mat 14:1; Mat 16:14; Mar 8:28; Luk 9:7) 15 But others said, “He is Elijah.” And others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.” (Mat 21:11; Mar 6:14) 16 But when Herod heard of it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.” 17 For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her. (Mat 11:2; Luk 3:19; Yu 3:24) 18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” (Lev 18:16; Lev 20:21; Mar 6:17) 19 And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not, 20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly. (Mat 14:5; Mat 21:26; Mar 4:16; Mar 12:37) 21 But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee. (Yar 40:20; 1 Kr 3:15; Est 1:3; Est 2:18) 22 For when Herodias’s daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.” 23 And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.” (Est 5:3; Est 7:2) 24 And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” 25 And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” 26 And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. 27 And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s[5] head. He went and beheaded him in the prison 28 and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb. (Mat 9:14) 



30 The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. (Mat 10:2; Luk 6:13; Luk 9:10; Luk 17:5; Luk 22:14; Luk 24:10) 31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. (Mar 3:20) 32 And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. (Mat 14:13; Mar 3:9; Mar 8:2; Luk 9:10; Yu 6:1) 33 Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. (Mar 6:54) 34 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. (Mat 9:36) 35 And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. 36 Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” (Mat 15:23; Mar 6:45) 37 But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii[6] worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” (Say 11:13; Say 11:21; 2 Kr 4:42; Yu 6:7) 38 And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” (Mar 8:19) 39 Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. 41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. (1 Sa 9:13; Mat 26:26; Mar 7:34; Mar 8:7; Mar 14:22; Luk 24:30; Yu 11:41; Yu 17:1; 1 Ko 14:16) 42 And they all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. 44 And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men. 



45 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. (Mat 8:18; Mat 14:22; Mar 6:32; Mar 8:22; Luk 9:10; Yu 6:15) 46 And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray. (Mar 1:35; Luk 5:16; Luk 6:12; Luk 9:28) 47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. (Mar 13:35) 48 And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night[7] he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, (Mar 6:47; Luk 24:28) 49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50 for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” (Yas 31:6; Yşa 41:13; Yşa 43:1; Mat 17:7; Luk 24:37; Yu 16:33) 51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52 for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. (Mar 3:5; Mar 8:17; Yu 12:40; Rom 11:7; 2 Ko 3:14) 



53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore. (Mat 14:34; Luk 5:1; Yu 6:24) 54 And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him (Mar 6:33) 55 and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was. (Mat 4:24; Luk 5:18) 56 And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well. (Mat 9:20; Mar 3:10; Luk 6:19; Elç 5:15)
