1 RAB'bin meleği Gilgal'dan Bokim'e gitti ve İsrailliler'e şöyle dedi: ‹‹Sizi Mısır'dan çıkarıp atalarınıza söz verdiğim toprağa getirdim. ‹Sizinle yaptığım antlaşmayı hiçbir zaman bozmayacağım› dedim. 2 Dedim ki, ‹Bu topraklarda yaşayanlarla antlaşma yapmayın; sunaklarını yıkın.› Ama sözümü dinlemediniz. Bunu neden yaptınız? 3 Onun için şimdi, ‹Bu halkları önünüzden kovmayacağım; onlar böğrünüzde diken, ilahları da size tuzak olacak› diyorum.›› 4 RAB'bin meleği sözlerini bitirince bütün İsrail halkı hıçkıra hıçkıra ağlamaya başladı. 5 Bu yüzden oraya Bokim[1] adını verdiler ve orada RAB'be kurban sundular. 



6 Bundan sonra Yeşu halkı gönderdi. İsrailliler paylarına düşen toprakları miras edinmek için yola çıktılar. (Yşu 24:28) 7 Yeşu yaşadıkça ve RAB'bin İsrail için yaptığı büyük işleri görmüş olup Yeşu'dan sonra sağ kalan ileri gelenler durdukça halk RAB'be kulluk etti. 8 RAB'bin kulu Nun oğlu Yeşu yüz on yaşında öldü. 9 Onu Efrayim'in dağlık bölgesindeki Gaaş Dağı'nın kuzeyine, kendi mülkünün sınırları içinde kalan Timnat-Heres'e gömdüler. 



10 Bu kuşaktan olanların hepsi ölüp atalarına kavuştuktan sonra, RAB'bi tanımayan ve O'nun İsrail için yaptıklarını bilmeyen yeni bir kuşak yetişti. 11 İsrailliler RAB'bin gözünde kötü olanı yaptılar, Baallar'a taptılar. 12 Kendilerini Mısır'dan çıkaran atalarının Tanrısı RAB'bi terk ettiler. Çevrelerinde yaşayan ulusların değişik ilahlarına bağlanıp onlara taparak RAB'bi öfkelendirdiler. 13 Çünkü RAB'bi terk edip Baal'a ve Aştoretler'e taptılar. 14 Bunun üzerine RAB İsrail'e öfkelendi. Onları, her şeylerini alan yağmacıların eline teslim etti; artık karşı koyamadıkları çevredeki düşmanlarının kölesi yaptı. 15 RAB söylediği ve ant içtiği gibi, onlara karşı olduğundan, savaşa her gittiklerinde yenilgiye uğradılar. Büyük sıkıntı içindeydiler. 16 Sonra RAB onları yağmacıların elinden kurtaran hakimler çıkardı. 17 Ama hakimlerini de dinlemediler. RAB'be vefasızlık ederek başka ilahlara taptılar. RAB'bin buyruklarını yerine getiren ataları gibi davranmadılar, onların izlediği yoldan çabucak saptılar. 18 RAB onlar için ne zaman bir hakim çıkardıysa, onunla birlikte oldu; hakim yaşadığı sürece onları düşmanlarının elinden kurtardı. Baskı ve zulüm altında inledikleri zaman RAB onlara acıyordu. 19 Ne var ki, hakimleri ölür ölmez yine başka ilahlara bağlanıyor, onlara kulluk edip tapıyorlardı. Bu yolda atalarından beter oldular. Yaptıkları kötülüklerden ve inatçılıktan vazgeçmediler. 20 RAB bu yüzden İsrail'e öfkelenerek şöyle dedi: ‹‹Madem bu ulus atalarının uymasını buyurduğum antlaşmayı bozdu ve sözümü dinlemedi, 21 ben de Yeşu öldüğünde bu topraklarda bıraktığı ulusların hiçbirini artık önlerinden kovmayacağım. 22 Ataları gibi özenle RAB'bin yolundan gidip gitmeyeceklerini görmek için onları bu uluslarla sınayacağım.›› 23 RAB o ulusları hemen kovmamış, Yeşu'nun eline teslim etmeyerek ülkelerinde kalmalarına izin vermişti.

1 Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, (Yar 17:7; Çık 6:4; Yas 31:16; Hak 2:5) 2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? (Yas 7:2; Yas 12:3) 3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” (Say 33:55; Yşu 23:13; Hak 2:21) 4 As soon as the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. 5 And they called the name of that place Bochim.[1] And they sacrificed there to the Lord. 



6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. 7 And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the Lord had done for Israel. (Yşu 24:29) 8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110 years. 9 And they buried him within the boundaries of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash. (Yşu 19:50; Yşu 24:33) 10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel. 



11 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. (Hak 3:7; Hak 4:1; Hak 6:1; Hak 10:6; Hak 13:1) 12 And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the Lord to anger. (Çık 20:5; Yas 6:14; Yas 31:16; Yas 31:29; Hak 2:17; Hak 2:19) 13 They abandoned the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. (Hak 3:7; Hak 10:6; 1 Sa 7:4; Mez 106:36) 14 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. And he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies. (Lev 26:37; Yas 32:30; Yşu 7:12; Hak 2:20; Hak 3:8; Hak 4:2; 1 Sa 12:9; 2 Kr 17:20) 15 Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, and as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress. (Lev 26:14; Yas 28:15) 



16 Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them. (Hak 3:9; Hak 3:15; Hak 3:31; Hak 10:1; Hak 10:12; Hak 12:2; Hak 13:5; 1 Sa 12:11; Neh 9:27; Elç 13:20) 17 Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they whored after other gods and bowed down to them. They soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the Lord, and they did not do so. (Çık 34:15; Yas 9:12; Hak 8:33) 18 Whenever the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. For the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who afflicted and oppressed them. (Yar 6:6; Çık 2:24; Çık 6:5; Say 23:19; Yas 32:36; Yşu 1:5; Mez 106:45; Yer 18:8; Yer 26:3) 19 But whenever the judge died, they turned back and were more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them. They did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways. (Hak 3:12; Hak 4:1; Hak 6:1; Hak 8:33) 20 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he said, “Because this people have transgressed my covenant that I commanded their fathers and have not obeyed my voice, (Yas 17:2; Yşu 23:16; Hak 2:14) 21 I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died, (Yşu 23:13; Hak 2:3) 22 in order to test Israel by them, whether they will take care to walk in the way of the Lord as their fathers did, or not.” (Çık 15:25; Yas 8:2; Yas 8:16; Yas 13:3; Hak 3:1; Hak 3:4) 23 So the Lord left those nations, not driving them out quickly, and he did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
