Josuas Sieg bei Gibeon. Das wunderbare Eingreifen Gottes

1 Es geschah aber, als Adoni-Zedek, der König von Jerusalem^[1], hörte, dass Josua Ai erobert und an ihm den Bann vollstreckt hatte, und dass er es mit Ai samt seinem König ebenso gemacht hatte wie mit Jericho und seinem König, und dass die Einwohner von Gibeon mit Israel Frieden gemacht hatten und in ihrer Mitte wohnten, (Jos 9,3; Jos 9,15) 2 da fürchteten sie sich sehr; denn Gibeon war eine große Stadt, wie eine der Königsstädte^[2], und es war größer als Ai, und alle seine Männer waren tapfere Krieger. 4 Kommt herauf zu mir und helft mir, dass wir Gibeon schlagen; denn es hat mit Josua und den Kindern Israels Frieden gemacht! (Jes 8,9) 5 Da vereinigten sich die fünf Könige der Amoriter und zogen hinauf: der König von Jerusalem, der König von Hebron, der König von Jarmut, der König von Lachis und der König von Eglon mit allen ihren Heeren; und sie belagerten Gibeon und bekämpften es. (Jos 9,1) 6 Aber die Männer von Gibeon sandten Boten zu Josua ins Lager nach Gilgal und ließen ihm sagen: Zieh deine Hand nicht ab von deinen Knechten; komm rasch zu uns herauf und errette uns und hilf uns; denn alle Könige der Amoriter, die im Bergland wohnen, haben sich gegen uns versammelt! 7 Und Josua zog hinauf von Gilgal, er und das ganze Kriegsvolk mit ihm und alle tapferen Krieger. (Jos 8,3; Spr 21,30) 8 Und der HERR sprach zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen, denn ich habe sie in deine Hand gegeben; niemand von ihnen wird vor dir bestehen können! 9 So kam Josua plötzlich über sie; denn er zog die ganze Nacht hindurch von Gilgal herauf. (1Sam 11,9) 10 Und der HERR erschreckte sie vor Israel und schlug sie in einer großen Schlacht bei Gibeon; und sie jagten ihnen nach auf dem Weg nach der Anhöhe von Beth-Horon, und sie schlugen sie bis Aseka und bis Makkeda. 11 Und es geschah, als sie vor Israel flohen und am Abhang von Beth-Horon waren, da ließ der HERR große Steine vom Himmel auf sie fallen bis Aseka, sodass sie starben; und die Zahl derer, die durch die Hagelsteine starben, war größer als die Zahl derer, welche die Söhne Israels mit dem Schwert umbrachten. 12 Da redete Josua zu dem HERRN an dem Tag, als der HERR die Amoriter vor den Söhnen Israels dahingab, und sprach in Gegenwart Israels: Sonne, stehe still in Gibeon, und du, Mond, im Tal Ajalon! (Jos 19,42; Jos 21,24; Ri 1,35; 1Sam 12,18; 1Sam 14,31; Jes 24,23; Jes 28,21; Hab 3,10)

13 Da stand die Sonne still, und der Mond blieb stehen, bis sich das Volk an seinen Feinden gerächt hatte. Ist dies nicht geschrieben im Buch des Aufrichtigen? So blieb die Sonne mitten am Himmel stehen und eilte nicht unterzugehen, beinahe einen ganzen Tag. (2Sam 1,18; 2Kön 20,10; Jes 38,8; Hab 3,10)

15 Und Josua zog wieder ins Lager nach Gilgal, und ganz Israel mit ihm. (Jos 10,6; Jos 10,43) 16 Aber jene fünf Könige waren geflohen und hatten sich in der Höhle von Makkeda versteckt. (Jos 10,10; Ri 6,2; 1Sam 13,6) 17 Da wurde dem Josua gemeldet: Die fünf Könige sind gefunden worden, verborgen in der Höhle von Makkeda! 18 Und Josua sprach: So wälzt große Steine vor den Eingang der Höhle und stellt Männer davor, um sie zu bewachen! 21 da zog das ganze Volk mit Frieden wieder zu Josua zurück, in das Lager nach Makkeda; niemand regte seine Zunge gegen die Söhne Israels. (2Mo 11,7) 22 Josua aber sprach: Öffnet den Eingang der Höhle und bringt jene fünf Könige aus der Höhle heraus zu mir! 24 Als sie aber diese Könige zu Josua herausgeführt hatten, rief Josua alle Männer Israels zu sich und sprach zu den Obersten des Kriegsvolkes, die mit ihm gezogen waren: Kommt herzu und setzt euren Fuß auf den Nacken dieser Könige! Und sie kamen herzu und setzten ihnen den Fuß auf den Nacken. (Ps 18,40; Ps 110,5; Mal 3,21) 25 Da sprach Josua zu ihnen: Fürchtet euch nicht und verzagt nicht; seid stark und mutig; denn so wird der HERR an allen euren Feinden handeln, gegen die ihr kämpft! 26 Und danach schlug sie Josua und tötete sie und hängte sie an fünf Holzstämme. Und sie hingen an den Holzstämmen bis zum Abend. (4Mo 25,4; Jos 8,29; Ri 8,21) 27 Als aber die Sonne unterging, gebot Josua, dass man sie von den Holzstämmen abnehme und sie in die Höhle werfe, in der sie sich verborgen hatten; und sie legten große Steine vor den Eingang der Höhle; die sind noch dort bis zu diesem Tag. (5Mo 21,22) 28 An diesem Tag nahm Josua auch Makkeda ein und schlug es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes samt seinem König und vollstreckte an ihnen und an allen Seelen, die darin waren, den Bann; und er ließ keinen übrig bleiben, der entkommen wäre; und er machte es mit dem König von Makkeda ebenso, wie er es mit dem König von Jericho gemacht hatte. 29 Da zog Josua und ganz Israel mit ihm von Makkeda nach Libna und kämpfte gegen Libna. (Jos 15,42; Jos 21,13; 2Chr 21,10; Jes 37,8)

30 Und der HERR gab es auch in die Hand Israels samt seinem König; und er schlug es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, und alle Seelen, die darin waren, und ließ keinen darin übrig bleiben, der entkommen wäre; und er machte es mit seinem König ebenso, wie er es mit dem König von Jericho gemacht hatte. 32 Und der HERR gab Lachis in die Hand Israels, sodass sie es am zweiten Tag einnahmen und mit der Schärfe des Schwertes schlugen, samt allen Seelen, die darin waren — genau so, wie er es mit Libna gemacht hatte. (Jos 10,30) 33 Zu derselben Zeit zog Horam, der König von Geser, hinauf, um Lachis zu helfen. Aber Josua schlug ihn samt all seinem Volk, bis ihm nicht einer übrig blieb, der entkommen wäre. 34 Und Josua zog mit ganz Israel von Lachis nach Eglon und belagerte und bekämpfte es; (Jos 10,3; Jos 10,5; Jos 10,23) 35 und sie nahmen es an jenem Tag ein und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, und er vollstreckte an jenem Tag den Bann an allen Seelen, die darin waren, genau so, wie er es mit Lachis gemacht hatte. 36 Danach zog Josua mit ganz Israel von Eglon nach Hebron hinauf und bekämpfte es, (Jos 10,34) 37 und sie nahmen es ein und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, samt seinem König und allen seinen Städten und allen Seelen, die darin waren; und er ließ nicht einen übrig bleiben, der entkommen wäre — genau so, wie er es mit Eglon gemacht hatte; und er vollstreckte den Bann an [Hebron] und an allen Seelen, die darin waren. (Jos 10,35) 38 Dann wandte sich Josua mit ganz Israel nach Debir und bekämpfte es; (Jos 15,49; Jos 21,15; 1Chr 6,58) 39 und er nahm es ein samt seinem König und allen seinen Städten und schlug sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und vollstreckte den Bann an allen Seelen, die darin waren, er ließ nicht einen übrig bleiben, der entkommen wäre; wie er es mit Hebron und Libna samt ihrem König gemacht hatte, genau so machte er es mit Debir und seinem König. 40 So schlug Josua das ganze Land, das Bergland und den Negev und die Schephela und die Abhänge^[3], samt allen ihren Königen; und er ließ nicht einen übrig bleiben, der entkommen wäre; und er vollstreckte den Bann an allem, was Odem hatte, wie es der HERR, der Gott Israels, geboten hatte. 42 Und Josua eroberte alle diese Könige samt ihrem Land auf einmal; denn der HERR, der Gott Israels, kämpfte für Israel. (Jos 10,14) 43 Und Josua kehrte mit ganz Israel wieder in das Lager zurück nach Gilgal. (Jos 10,6)
