Goliath verhöhnt das Heer Israels

1 Die Philister aber zogen ihre Heere zum Kampf zusammen und versammelten sich bei Socho in Juda, und sie lagerten sich zwischen Socho und Aseka, bei Ephes-Dammin. (Jos 10,10; Jos 15,35; 1Sam 13,5; 1Sam 14,52; 1Chr 11,13; 2Chr 11,7; 2Chr 28,18) 

2 Auch Saul und die Männer von Israel sammelten sich und schlugen ihr Lager im Terebinthental auf, und sie rüsteten sich zum Kampf gegen die Philister. (1Sam 17,19) 

3 Und die Philister standen am jenseitigen Berg, die Israeliten aber am diesseitigen Berg, und das Tal lag zwischen ihnen. 

4 Da trat aus dem Lager der Philister ein Vorkämpfer hervor mit Namen Goliath, aus Gat; der war sechs Ellen und eine Spanne groß. (Jos 11,22; 2Sam 21,19) 

5 Er hatte einen ehernen Helm auf seinem Kopf und trug einen Schuppenpanzer, und das Gewicht seines Panzers betrug 5 000 Schekel Erz. (1Sam 17,38) 

6 Und er hatte eherne Schienen an seinen Beinen und einen ehernen Wurfspieß auf dem Rücken, (1Sam 17,5; 2Sam 22,35; Ps 107,16) 

7 und der Schaft seines Speeres war wie ein Weberbaum, und die Spitze seines Speeres wog 600 Schekel Eisen; und der Schildträger ging vor ihm her. (1Chr 20,5) 

8 Und er stellte sich hin und rief den Schlachtreihen Israels zu und sprach zu ihnen: Weshalb seid ihr ausgezogen, um euch für den Kampf zu rüsten? Bin ich nicht ein Philister, und ihr seid Sauls Knechte? Erwählt euch einen Mann, der zu mir herabkommen soll! (1Sam 8,16; 1Sam 17,34; 1Sam 17,36; 1Sam 18,22; 1Sam 18,26) 

9 Wenn er mit mir kämpfen kann und mich erschlägt, so wollen wir eure Knechte sein; wenn ich aber im Kampf mit ihm siege und ihn erschlage, so sollt ihr unsere Knechte sein und uns dienen! (1Sam 11,1) 

10 Und weiter sprach der Philister: Ich habe am heutigen Tag die Schlachtreihen Israels verhöhnt; gebt mir einen Mann, und lasst uns miteinander kämpfen! (1Sam 17,26; 1Sam 17,32; 2Sam 21,21) 

11 Als Saul und ganz Israel diese Worte des Philisters hörten, entsetzten sie sich und fürchteten sich sehr. (5Mo 31,8; Jes 51,12) 

David kommt zum Heer

12 David aber war der Sohn jenes Ephratiters aus Bethlehem-Juda, der Isai hieß und acht Söhne hatte; dieser Mann war zu Sauls Zeiten schon alt und betagt unter den Männern. (1Mo 35,19; Rut 1,2; Rut 4,22; 1Sam 16,18; 1Sam 17,58) 

13 Und die drei ältesten Söhne Isais waren mit Saul in den Krieg gezogen; und von den drei Söhnen, die in den Krieg gezogen waren, hieß der erstgeborene Eliab, der zweite Abinadab und der dritte Schamma; (1Chr 2,13) 

14 David aber war der jüngste. Als nun die drei ältesten mit Saul [in den Krieg] gezogen waren, (1Mo 42,13; 1Sam 16,11) 

15 da ging David wieder von Saul weg, um in Bethlehem die Schafe seines Vaters zu hüten. (1Sam 16,19) 

16 Der Philister aber kam morgens und abends her und stellte sich 40 Tage lang hin. (Mt 4,2; Lk 4,1) 

17 Isai aber sprach zu seinem Sohn David: Nimm doch für deine Brüder dieses Epha geröstetes Korn und diese zehn Brote und bringe sie schnell zu deinen Brüdern ins Lager. (Rut 3,15; 1Sam 25,18; 2Sam 17,27) 

18 Und diese zehn Stück Käse bringe dem Obersten über ihre Tausendschaft; und sieh nach deinen Brüdern, ob es ihnen gut geht, und bring ein Zeichen von ihnen mit! (1Mo 37,14) 

19 Saul und sie und alle Männer von Israel sind nämlich im Terebinthental und kämpfen gegen die Philister! (1Sam 17,2) 

20 Da machte sich David am Morgen früh auf und überließ die Schafe einem Hüter; und er nahm [die Geschenke] und ging hin, wie Isai ihm geboten hatte; und er kam zur Wagenburg, als das Heer gerade ausgezogen war, um sich in der Schlachtreihe aufzustellen, und sie das Kriegsgeschrei erhoben hatten. (Jos 3,1; 1Sam 15,12; Lk 16,10; Lk 19,17; Joh 6,38; Joh 8,29) 

21 Und Israel und die Philister stellten sich auf: eine Schlachtreihe gegen die andere. (1Sam 17,3) 

22 Da ließ David die Sachen, die er trug, unter der Hand des Gepäckhüters und lief zur Schlachtreihe, und er ging hinein und fragte seine Brüder nach ihrem Wohlergehen. (1Mo 43,26; 2Mo 18,6) 

23 Während er noch mit ihnen redete, siehe, da kam der Vorkämpfer mit Namen Goliath, der Philister aus Gat, aus den Schlachtreihen der Philister herauf und redete wie zuvor, sodass David es hörte. (1Sam 17,4) 

24 Aber alle Männer von Israel flohen vor dem Mann, sobald sie ihn sahen, und fürchteten sich sehr. (4Mo 13,33; 5Mo 9,2) 

25 Und die Männer von Israel sprachen: Habt ihr diesen Mann gesehen, der da heraufkommt? Denn er ist aufgetreten, um Israel zu verhöhnen! Darum, wer ihn schlägt, den will der König sehr reich belohnen und ihm seine Tochter geben, und er will sein Vaterhaus in Israel frei machen. (Jos 15,16) 

26 Da redete David zu den Männern, die bei ihm standen, und sprach: Was wird dem Mann zuteilwerden, der diesen Philister schlägt und die Schande von Israel abwendet? Denn wer ist dieser Philister, dieser Unbeschnittene, dass er die Schlachtreihen des lebendigen Gottes verhöhnt? (1Sam 14,6; Ps 69,10; Ps 89,51; Jer 10,10; Hebr 10,29; Hebr 12,21) 

27 Da redete das Volk wie zuvor zu ihm und sprach: Das wird dem Mann zuteilwerden, der ihn schlägt! (1Sam 17,25) 

28 Aber Eliab, sein ältester Bruder, hörte ihn mit den Männern reden. Da entbrannte Eliabs Zorn gegen David, und er sprach: Warum bist du herabgekommen? Und bei wem hast du dort in der Wüste die wenigen Schafe gelassen? Ich kenne deine Vermessenheit und die Bosheit deines Herzens wohl; denn nur um den Kampf zu sehen bist du herabgekommen! (1Mo 37,4; 1Mo 37,8; 1Mo 37,11; Spr 27,4; 1Kor 13,5) 

29 David antwortete: Was habe ich denn jetzt getan? Es war ja nur ein Wort! (Spr 15,1; 1Petr 3,9) 

30 Und er wandte sich von ihm ab zu einem anderen und wiederholte seine vorige Frage. Da antwortete ihm das Volk wie zuvor. (1Sam 17,27) 

31 Und als man die Worte hörte, die David sagte, meldete man es dem Saul; und er ließ ihn holen. (Spr 22,29) 

David besiegt Goliath

32 Und David sprach zu Saul: Niemand soll seinetwegen den Mut sinken lassen; dein Knecht wird hingehen und mit diesem Philister kämpfen! (5Mo 20,2; 1Sam 14,6; Ps 27,1; Ps 118,6) 

33 Saul aber sprach zu David: Du kannst nicht hingehen, um gegen diesen Philister zu kämpfen, denn du bist noch ein Knabe; dieser aber ist ein Kriegsmann von Jugend auf! (1Sam 17,42) 

34 David aber sprach zu Saul: Dein Knecht hütete die Schafe seines Vaters; wenn nun ein Löwe oder ein Bär kam und ein Schaf von der Herde hinwegtrug, (Hi 10,16; Jes 31,4; Jer 49,19; Hos 13,8) 

35 dann lief ich ihm nach und schlug ihn und entriss es seinem Rachen. Und wenn er sich gegen mich erhob, ergriff ich ihn bei seinem Bart und schlug ihn und tötete ihn. (Ri 14,5; 2Sam 23,20; Am 3,12) 

36 Sowohl den Löwen als auch den Bären hat dein Knecht erschlagen, und dieser Philister, dieser Unbeschnittene, soll wie einer von jenen sein; denn er hat die Schlachtreihen des lebendigen Gottes verhöhnt! (1Sam 17,26; Jes 37,23) 

37 Weiter sprach David: Der HERR, der mich von dem Löwen und Bären errettet hat, Er wird mich auch von diesem Philister erretten! Und Saul sprach zu David: Geh hin, und der HERR sei mit dir! (Jos 1,9; Jos 1,17; Rut 2,4; 1Sam 20,13; Ps 18,18; Ps 63,8; Ps 118,6; Röm 8,31; 2Kor 1,10; 2Tim 4,17; Offb 17,14) 

38 Und Saul legte David seine Rüstung an und setzte einen ehernen Helm auf seinen Kopf und legte ihm einen Schuppenpanzer um. (1Sam 17,5) 

39 Danach gürtete David sein Schwert über seine Kleider und bemühte sich zu gehen; denn er hatte es noch nicht versucht. Da sprach David zu Saul: Ich kann darin nicht gehen; denn ich bin es nicht gewohnt! Und David legte es von sich ab. (Hos 1,7; Sach 4,6; 2Kor 10,4) 

40 Und er nahm seinen Stab in die Hand und erwählte sich fünf glatte Steine aus dem Bach und legte sie in die Hirtentasche, die er hatte, und zwar in die Schleudersteintasche, und er nahm seine Schleuder zur Hand und näherte sich dem Philister. (Ri 15,15) 

41 Und der Philister kam auch daher und näherte sich David, und sein Schildträger ging vor ihm her. 

42 Als nun der Philister den David sah und anschaute, da verachtete er ihn; denn er war ein Knabe, rötlich und von schöner Gestalt. (1Sam 16,12; Ps 123,4; 1Kor 1,26) 

43 Und der Philister sprach zu David: Bin ich denn ein Hund, dass du mit Stöcken zu mir kommst? Und der Philister fluchte David bei seinen Göttern. (2Sam 3,8; 2Sam 16,9; 2Kön 8,13) 

44 Und der Philister sprach zu David: Komm her zu mir, ich will dein Fleisch den Vögeln des Himmels und den Tieren des Feldes geben! (1Kön 20,11) 

45 David aber sprach zu dem Philister: Du kommst zu mir mit Schwert und mit Speer und mit Wurfspieß; ich aber komme zu dir im Namen des HERRN der Heerscharen, des Gottes der Schlachtreihen Israels, die du verhöhnt hast! (1Sam 2,2; 1Sam 2,10; 2Chr 14,10; 2Chr 32,8; Ps 20,8; Ps 124,8; Ps 125,1; Spr 18,10; 2Kor 3,5; 2Kor 10,4) 

46 An diesem heutigen Tag wird dich der HERR in meine Hand ausliefern, und ich werde dich erschlagen und deinen Kopf von dir nehmen, und ich werde die Leichname des Heeres der Philister an diesem Tag den Vögeln unter dem Himmel und den wilden Tieren der Erde geben, damit die ganze Erde erkenne, dass Israel einen Gott hat! (5Mo 28,26; Jos 4,24; 1Kön 18,36; Ps 46,11; Jer 19,7) 

47 Und diese ganze Gemeinde soll erkennen, dass der HERR nicht durch Schwert oder Spieß errettet; denn der Kampf ist die Sache des HERRN, und Er wird euch in unsere Hand geben! (Ps 44,7; Hos 1,7; Sach 4,6; 2Kor 2,14; 1Joh 5,4) 

48 Und es geschah, als sich der Philister aufmachte und daherkam und sich David näherte, da eilte David und lief der Schlachtreihe entgegen, auf den Philister zu. (Ps 27,1) 

49 Und David streckte seine Hand in die Tasche und nahm einen Stein heraus; und er schleuderte und traf den Philister an seine Stirn, sodass der Stein in seine Stirn drang und er auf sein Angesicht zur Erde fiel. (1Kön 22,34; 2Kön 9,24) 

50 So überwand David den Philister mit der Schleuder und mit dem Stein, und er erschlug den Philister und tötete ihn. Und weil David kein Schwert in seiner Hand hatte, (Ri 3,31; Ri 15,15; 1Joh 4,4; Offb 12,11) 

51 lief er und trat auf den Philister und nahm dessen Schwert und zog es aus der Scheide und tötete ihn und schlug ihm damit den Kopf ab. Als aber die Philister sahen, dass ihr Held tot war, flohen sie. (2Mo 14,25; Jos 10,11; 1Sam 17,46; 1Sam 21,10; 2Sam 23,21) 

52 Und die Männer von Israel und Juda machten sich auf und erhoben ein Kriegsgeschrei und jagten den Philistern nach, bis man in die Ebene kommt, und bis zu den Toren Ekrons. Und die erschlagenen Philister lagen auf dem Weg von Schaaraim bis nach Gat und bis nach Ekron. (Jos 13,3; Jos 15,36; Jos 15,45; 1Sam 5,10) 

53 Und die Söhne Israels kehrten von der Verfolgung der Philister zurück und plünderten ihr Lager. (Jer 30,16; Hes 38,13) 

54 David aber nahm den Kopf des Philisters und brachte ihn nach Jerusalem; seine Waffen aber legte er in sein Zelt. (1Sam 17,57; 1Sam 25,39; 1Kön 2,32; Neh 4,4) 

55 Als aber Saul sah, wie David gegen den Philister auszog, sprach er zu Abner, dem Heerführer: Abner, wessen Sohn ist dieser Bursche da? Abner aber sprach: So wahr deine Seele lebt, o König, ich weiß es nicht! (1Sam 14,50) 

56 Der König sprach: So erfrage doch, wessen Sohn dieser junge Mann ist! (1Sam 16,18; 1Sam 16,21; 1Sam 17,12; 1Sam 17,58) 

57 Sobald nun David nach der Erlegung des Philisters zurückkehrte, nahm ihn Abner und brachte ihn vor Saul; und der Kopf des Philisters war in seiner Hand. (1Sam 17,54) 

58 Und Saul sprach zu ihm: Knabe, wessen Sohn bist du? David sprach: Ich bin ein Sohn deines Knechtes Isai, des Bethlehemiten. (1Sam 17,56)

1 Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim. 

2 And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines. 

3 And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them. 

4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. 

5 And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. 

6 And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders. 

7 And the staff of his spear was like a weaver' beam; and his spear' head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him. 

8 And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. 

9 If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us. 

10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. 

11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid. 

12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul. 

13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. 

14 And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul. 

15 But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father' sheep at Bethlehem. 

16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days. 

17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn , and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren; 

18 And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge. 

19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines. 

20 And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle. 

21 For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army. 

22 And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren. 

23 And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them . 

24 And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid. 

25 And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father' house free in Israel. 

26 And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? 

27 And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him. 

28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab' anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. 

29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? 

30 And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner. 

31 And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him. 

32 And David said to Saul, Let no man' heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine. 

33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. 

34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father' sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: 

35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. 

36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. 

37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee. 

38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. 

39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it . And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them . And David put them off him. 

40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd' bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine. 

41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him. 

42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. 

43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 

44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field. 

45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 

46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 

47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD', and he will give you into our hands. 

48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 

49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it , and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. 

50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. 

51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled. 

52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron. 

53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents. 

54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent. 

55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell. 

56 And the king said, Enquire thou whose son the stripling is . 

57 And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. 

58 And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.
