1 Und es geschah nach vielen Tagen, im dritten Jahr, da erging das Wort des HERRN an Elia: Geh hin, zeige dich Ahab, und ich will es regnen lassen auf den Erdboden! (Ps 147,8; Jer 14,22; Lk 4,25; Jak 5,17) 2 Und Elia ging hin, um sich Ahab zu zeigen. Es war aber eine große Hungersnot in Samaria. (Rut 1,1; 2Kön 4,38; 2Kön 8,1; 2Kön 25,3; Ps 56,5; Ps 105,16) 3 Und Ahab rief Obadja, seinen Verwalter. Obadja aber fürchtete den HERRN sehr. (1Kön 18,12; Neh 5,15; Neh 7,2; Ps 112,1; Pred 7,18) 4 Denn es geschah, als Isebel die Propheten des HERRN ausrottete, da nahm Obadja 100 Propheten und verbarg sie in Höhlen, hier 50 und dort 50, und versorgte sie mit Brot und Wasser. (2Kön 9,7; Mt 10,41; Röm 12,13; Gal 6,10) 5 So sprach nun Ahab zu Obadja: Zieh durch das Land, zu allen Wasserquellen und zu allen Bächen[1]; vielleicht finden wir Gras, um die Pferde und Maultiere am Leben zu erhalten, sodass wir nichts von dem Vieh umkommen lassen müssen! (Ps 104,14; Jer 14,5; Joe 1,18; Joe 2,22) 6 Und sie teilten das Land unter sich auf, um es zu durchziehen. Ahab zog allein auf einem Weg, und Obadja auch allein auf einem anderen Weg. (Jer 14,3) 7 Als nun Obadja auf dem Weg war, siehe, da begegnete ihm Elia. Und als er ihn erkannte, fiel er auf sein Angesicht und sprach: Bist du es, mein Herr Elia? (1Mo 18,2; 1Mo 18,12; 1Mo 44,16; 1Mo 50,18; 1Kön 11,29; Jes 60,14; 1Petr 3,8) 8 Er sprach zu ihm: Ich bin’s! Geh hin und sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier! (1Kön 18,3; Röm 13,7; 1Petr 2,17) 9 Er aber sprach: Was habe ich gesündigt, dass du deinen Knecht in die Hand Ahabs geben willst, damit er mich tötet? (2Mo 5,21; 1Kön 17,18; 1Kön 18,12) 10 So wahr der HERR, dein Gott, lebt, es gibt kein Volk, noch Königreich, in das mein Herr nicht gesandt hätte, um dich zu suchen. Und wenn sie sagten: »Er ist nicht hier«, so nahm er einen Eid von jenem Königreich und von jenem Volk, dass man dich nicht gefunden habe. (Jer 26,20; Jer 36,26; Hos 7,15; Am 4,6) 11 Und du sprichst nun: Geh hin, sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier! (1Kön 18,8; 1Kön 18,14) 12 Wenn ich von dir weggehe, dann könnte es geschehen, dass dich der Geist des HERRN hinwegnimmt, ich weiß nicht wohin; und wenn ich dann komme und es Ahab berichte, und er findet dich nicht, so wird er mich töten; und dein Knecht fürchtet doch den HERRN von Jugend auf! (2Kön 2,12; 2Kön 2,16; Ps 56,12; Ps 71,5; Jes 50,10; Jes 51,12; Hes 3,12; Mt 10,28; Lk 18,21; Apg 8,39) 13 Ist meinem Herrn nicht berichtet worden, was ich getan habe, als Isebel die Propheten des HERRN tötete, dass ich von den Propheten des HERRN 100 Männer verbarg, hier 50 und dort 50, in Höhlen, und sie mit Brot und Wasser versorgte? (Gal 6,9; Hebr 6,10; 1Joh 3,18) 14 Und du sprichst nun: Geh hin, sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier! Er wird mich ja töten! (1Kön 18,12) 15 Elia aber sprach: So wahr der HERR der Heerscharen lebt, vor dem ich stehe, ich werde mich ihm heute zeigen! (1Kön 18,17) 



16 Da ging Obadja hin, Ahab entgegen, und berichtete es ihm; Ahab aber kam Elia entgegen. (1Kön 18,8) 17 Und als Ahab den Elia sah, sprach Ahab zu ihm: Bist du da, der Israel ins Unglück bringt? (Am 7,10; Lk 23,2; Apg 16,20; Apg 17,6) 18 Er aber sprach: Nicht ich bringe Israel ins Unglück, sondern du und das Haus deines Vaters, weil ihr die Gebote des HERRN verlassen habt und du den Baalen nachgefolgt bist! (2Chr 28,19; Jer 2,19) 19 Wohlan, so sende nun hin und versammle zu mir ganz Israel auf den Berg Karmel, dazu die 450 Propheten des Baal und die 400 Propheten der Aschera, die am Tisch der Isebel essen! (Jos 19,26; 1Kön 16,32; Jer 46,18) 20 So sandte Ahab Boten zu allen Kindern Israels und versammelte die Propheten auf dem Berg Karmel. (1Kön 22,6) 21 Da trat Elia vor das ganze Volk und sprach: Wie lange wollt ihr auf beiden Seiten hinken? Ist der HERR Gott, so folgt ihm nach, ist es aber Baal, so folgt ihm! Und das Volk erwiderte ihm kein Wort. (Jos 24,15; 2Kön 17,41; Zef 1,5; Mt 6,24; 2Kor 6,14; Jak 4,4; Offb 3,15) 22 Da sprach Elia zum Volk: Ich bin allein übrig geblieben als Prophet des HERRN, die Propheten Baals aber sind 450 Mann. (1Kön 18,19; 1Kön 19,10; 1Kön 19,14; Röm 11,3) 23 So gebt uns nun zwei Jungstiere, und lasst sie den einen Jungstier erwählen und ihn in Stücke zerteilen und auf das Holz legen und kein Feuer daran legen; so will ich den anderen Jungstier zubereiten und auf das Holz legen und auch kein Feuer daran legen. (1Kön 18,26; 1Kön 18,33) 24 Dann sollt ihr den Namen eures Gottes anrufen, und ich will den Namen des HERRN anrufen. Und der Gott, der mit Feuer antworten wird, der sei der [wahre] Gott! Da antwortete das ganze Volk und sprach: Das Wort ist gut! (3Mo 9,24; 1Kön 18,38; 1Chr 21,26; 2Chr 7,1) 25 Und Elia sprach zu den Propheten Baals: Erwählt euch den einen Jungstier und bereitet ihn zuerst zu, denn ihr seid viele, und ruft den Namen eures Gottes an, aber legt kein Feuer daran! (1Kön 22,22; 2Kön 10,19; 2Petr 2,1) 26 Und sie nahmen den Jungstier, den man ihnen gab, und bereiteten ihn zu; und sie riefen den Namen Baals an vom Morgen bis zum Mittag und sprachen: Baal, erhöre uns! Aber da war keine Stimme noch Antwort. Und sie hüpften um den Altar, den man gemacht hatte. (Ps 135,16; Jes 46,7; Jer 10,5; 1Kor 8,4) 27 Als es nun Mittag war, spottete Elia über sie und sprach: Ruft laut! denn er ist ja ein Gott; vielleicht denkt er nach oder er ist beiseitegegangen oder ist auf Reisen, oder er schläft vielleicht und wird aufwachen! (Ps 121,4; Jes 41,23; Jes 45,20) 28 Und sie riefen laut und machten sich Einschnitte nach ihrer Weise mit Schwertern und Spießen, bis das Blut an ihnen herabfloss. (3Mo 19,28; Röm 12,1) 29 Als aber der Mittag vergangen war, weissagten sie, bis es Zeit war, das Speisopfer darzubringen; aber da war keine Stimme noch Antwort noch Aufhorchen. (2Mo 29,41; 1Kön 18,26) 30 Da sprach Elia zu dem ganzen Volk: Tretet heran zu mir! Als nun das ganze Volk zu ihm trat, stellte er den Altar des HERRN, der niedergerissen war, wieder her. (1Kön 19,10; 1Kön 19,14; 2Chr 33,16; Röm 11,3) 31 Und Elia nahm zwölf Steine, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Söhne Jakobs, an den das Wort des HERRN ergangen war: »Du sollst Israel heißen!« (1Mo 32,28; 1Mo 35,10; 2Mo 24,4; Jos 4,5) 32 Und er baute aus den Steinen einen Altar im Namen des HERRN und machte um den Altar her einen Graben so breit wie für zwei Kornmaß Aussaat; (2Mo 20,24; Ri 6,26; 1Sam 7,17) 33 und er richtete das Holz zu und zerteilte den Jungstier in Stücke und legte ihn auf das Holz, (3Mo 1,6) 34 und er sprach: Füllt vier Krüge mit Wasser und gießt es auf das Brandopfer und auf das Holz! Und er sprach: Tut es noch einmal! Und sie taten es noch einmal. Und er sprach: Tut es zum dritten Mal! Und sie taten es zum dritten Mal. (4Mo 24,10; Dan 6,11; Dan 6,14; Apg 10,16; Apg 11,10) 35 Und das Wasser lief rings um den Altar, und auch den Graben füllte er mit Wasser. (1Kön 18,38) 36 Und es geschah um die Zeit, da man das Speisopfer darbringt, da trat der Prophet Elia herzu und sprach: O HERR, du Gott Abrahams, Isaaks und Israels, lass [sie] heute erkennen, dass du Gott in Israel bist und ich dein Knecht, und dass ich dies alles nach deinem Wort getan habe! (2Mo 3,6; 4Mo 16,28; 1Sam 17,46; 1Kön 18,29; 2Kön 19,19; Ps 83,19; Ps 115,2; Hes 36,23; Mt 22,32) 37 Erhöre mich, o HERR, erhöre mich, damit dieses Volk erkennt, dass du, HERR, der [wahre] Gott bist, und damit du ihr Herz zur Umkehr bringst! (1Kön 18,24; Jes 37,20; Mal 3,23; Lk 1,16) 38 Da fiel das Feuer des HERRN herab und verzehrte das Brandopfer und das Holz und die Steine und die Erde; und es leckte das Wasser auf im Graben. (3Mo 9,24; Ri 6,21; 1Chr 21,26; 2Chr 7,1) 39 Als das ganze Volk dies sah, da fielen sie auf ihr Angesicht und sprachen: Der HERR ist Gott! Der HERR ist Gott! (Ps 22,30; Jes 45,23; Joh 2,23; Phil 2,9) 40 Elia aber sprach zu ihnen: Fangt die Propheten Baals, dass keiner von ihnen entkommt! Und sie fingen sie. Und Elia führte sie hinab an den Bach Kison und schlachtete sie dort. (5Mo 13,7; 5Mo 18,20; 2Kön 10,25) 41 Und Elia sprach zu Ahab: Zieh hinauf, iss und trink, denn es rauscht, als wolle es reichlich regnen! (1Kön 17,1; 1Kön 18,1) 42 Und als Ahab hinaufzog, um zu essen und zu trinken, ging Elia auf den Gipfel des Karmel und beugte sich zur Erde und legte sein Angesicht zwischen seine Knie; (Jak 5,17) 43 und er sprach zu seinem Burschen: Geh doch hinauf und schaue zum Meer hin! Da ging er hinauf und schaute hin und sprach: Es ist nichts da! Er sprach: Geh wieder hin! So geschah es siebenmal. (Jos 6,15; 2Kön 5,10; Hab 2,1; Mt 18,21; Lk 18,1) 44 Und beim siebten Mal sprach er: Siehe, es steigt eine kleine Wolke aus dem Meer auf, wie die Hand eines Mannes! Da sprach er: Geh hinauf und sage zu Ahab: Spanne an und fahre hinab, damit dich der Regen nicht zurückhält! (1Sam 6,7; 1Sam 6,10; Hi 8,7; Mi 1,13; Sach 4,10) 45 Und es geschah unterdessen, da wurde der Himmel schwarz von Wolken und Wind, und es kam ein gewaltiger Regen. Ahab aber bestieg den Wagen und fuhr nach Jesreel. (Jos 19,18; 1Sam 12,18; 1Kön 21,1; 1Kön 21,23; Ps 65,6; Ps 65,10; Ps 68,10) 46 Und die Hand des HERRN kam über Elia, und er gürtete seine Lenden und lief vor Ahab her bis nach Jesreel. (2Sam 15,1; 1Kön 19,8; 2Kön 1,8; 2Kön 3,15; 2Kön 4,29; 2Kön 9,1; Esr 7,6; Hes 1,3; Hes 8,1; Mal 3,1; Apg 11,21)

1 After many days the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain upon the earth.” (1Kön 17,1) 2 So Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. Now the famine was severe in Samaria. 3 And Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. (Now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly, (1Kön 16,9) 4 and when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord, Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water.) (1Kön 18,13) 5 And Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go through the land to all the springs of water and to all the valleys. Perhaps we may find grass and save the horses and mules alive, and not lose some of the animals.” 6 So they divided the land between them to pass through it. Ahab went in one direction by himself, and Obadiah went in another direction by himself. 7 And as Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah met him. And Obadiah recognized him and fell on his face and said, “Is it you, my lord Elijah?” 8 And he answered him, “It is I. Go, tell your lord, ‘Behold, Elijah is here.’” 9 And he said, “How have I sinned, that you would give your servant into the hand of Ahab, to kill me? 10 As the Lord your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you. And when they would say, ‘He is not here,’ he would take an oath of the kingdom or nation, that they had not found you. (1Kön 17,1) 11 And now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, “Behold, Elijah is here.”’ 12 And as soon as I have gone from you, the Spirit of the Lord will carry you I know not where. And so, when I come and tell Ahab and he cannot find you, he will kill me, although I your servant have feared the Lord from my youth. (2Kön 2,16; Hes 3,12; Hes 3,14; Hes 8,3; Apg 8,39) 13 Has it not been told my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord, how I hid a hundred men of the Lord’s prophets by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water? (1Kön 18,4) 14 And now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, “Behold, Elijah is here”’; and he will kill me.” 15 And Elijah said, “As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him today.” (1Kön 18,10) 16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him. And Ahab went to meet Elijah. 17 When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, “Is it you, you troubler of Israel?” (Jos 7,25; 1Kön 21,20) 18 And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you have, and your father’s house, because you have abandoned the commandments of the Lord and followed the Baals. (1Kön 9,9; 1Kön 16,31; 2Chr 15,2; 2Chr 24,20) 19 Now therefore send and gather all Israel to me at Mount Carmel, and the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.” (Jos 19,26; 1Kön 16,33; 1Kön 18,22; 2Kön 3,13) 



20 So Ahab sent to all the people of Israel and gathered the prophets together at Mount Carmel. 21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word. (Jos 24,15; 2Kön 17,41; Mt 6,24) 22 Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left a prophet of the Lord, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men. (1Kön 18,19; 1Kön 19,10; 1Kön 19,14) 23 Let two bulls be given to us, and let them choose one bull for themselves and cut it in pieces and lay it on the wood, but put no fire to it. And I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood and put no fire to it. 24 And you call upon the name of your god, and I will call upon the name of the Lord, and the God who answers by fire, he is God.” And all the people answered, “It is well spoken.” (1Kön 18,38) 25 Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first, for you are many, and call upon the name of your god, but put no fire to it.” 26 And they took the bull that was given them, and they prepared it and called upon the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no voice, and no one answered. And they limped around the altar that they had made. 27 And at noon Elijah mocked them, saying, “Cry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is musing, or he is relieving himself, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.” 28 And they cried aloud and cut themselves after their custom with swords and lances, until the blood gushed out upon them. (3Mo 19,28; 5Mo 14,1) 29 And as midday passed, they raved on until the time of the offering of the oblation, but there was no voice. No one answered; no one paid attention. (2Mo 29,39; 2Mo 29,41) 30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been thrown down. (1Kön 19,10; 1Kön 19,14) 31 Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, “Israel shall be your name,” (1Mo 32,28; 1Mo 35,10; 2Kön 17,34) 32 and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord. And he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two seahs[1] of seed. 33 And he put the wood in order and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. And he said, “Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.” (1Mo 22,9; 3Mo 1,7; Ri 6,20) 34 And he said, “Do it a second time.” And they did it a second time. And he said, “Do it a third time.” And they did it a third time. 35 And the water ran around the altar and filled the trench also with water. 36 And at the time of the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. (2Mo 3,6; 4Mo 16,28; Jos 4,24; 1Sam 17,46; 1Kön 18,29) 37 Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.” 38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. (3Mo 9,24; 1Kön 18,24) 39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, “The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God.” (1Kön 18,24) 40 And Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape.” And they seized them. And Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and slaughtered them there. (Ri 4,7; 2Kön 10,25) 



41 And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is a sound of the rushing of rain.” 42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Mount Carmel. And he bowed himself down on the earth and put his face between his knees. (Jak 5,17) 43 And he said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” And he went up and looked and said, “There is nothing.” And he said, “Go again,” seven times. 44 And at the seventh time he said, “Behold, a little cloud like a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” And he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot and go down, lest the rain stop you.’” (Lk 12,54) 45 And in a little while the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode and went to Jezreel. (Jos 17,16) 46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah, and he gathered up his garment and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. (2Mo 12,11; Jos 17,16; 2Kön 3,15; 2Kön 4,29; 2Kön 9,1; Jer 1,17; Hes 1,3; Hes 3,14)
