1 Lo que ha sido desde el principio, lo que hemos oído, lo que hemos visto con nuestros propios ojos, lo que hemos contemplado, lo que hemos tocado con las manos, esto os anunciamos respecto al Verbo que es vida. 2 Esta vida se manifestó. Nosotros la hemos visto y damos testimonio de ella, y os anunciamos a vosotros la vida eterna que estaba con el Padre y que se nos ha manifestado. 3 Os anunciamos lo que hemos visto y oído, para que también vosotros tengáis comunión con nosotros. Y nuestra comunión es con el Padre y con su Hijo Jesucristo. 4 Os escribimos estas cosas para que nuestra alegría[1] sea completa. 



5 Este es el mensaje que hemos oído de él y que os anunciamos: Dios es luz y en él no hay ninguna oscuridad. 6 Si afirmamos que tenemos comunión con él, pero vivimos en la oscuridad, mentimos y no ponemos en práctica la verdad. 7 Pero, si vivimos en la luz, así como él está en la luz, tenemos comunión unos con otros, y la sangre de su Hijo Jesucristo nos limpia de todo pecado. 8 Si afirmamos que no tenemos pecado, nos engañamos a nosotros mismos y no tenemos la verdad. 9 Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Dios, que es fiel y justo, nos los perdonará y nos limpiará de toda maldad. 10 Si afirmamos que no hemos pecado, lo hacemos pasar por mentiroso y su palabra no habita en nosotros.

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— (Lk 24,39; Joh 1,1; Joh 1,14; Joh 19,35; Joh 20,27; Apg 4,20; 2Petr 1,16; 1Joh 2,13; 1Joh 4,14) 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— (Joh 1,4; Joh 11,25; Joh 14,6; Joh 15,27; Röm 16,26; 1Tim 3,16; 1Joh 1,1; 1Joh 3,5; 1Joh 3,8) 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (Joh 4,24; Jak 1,17; 1Joh 3,11; 1Joh 4,8) 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (Joh 3,21; Joh 12,35; 2Kor 6,14; 1Joh 2,11) 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (Ps 104,2; Jes 2,5; Eph 1,7; 1Tim 6,16; Hebr 9,14; 1Petr 1,19; Offb 5,9; Offb 7,14; Offb 12,11) 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (Hi 15,14; Jer 2,35; Jak 3,2; 1Joh 2,4) 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (Ps 32,5; Ps 51,3; Ps 143,1; Spr 28,13; Röm 3,26; 1Joh 1,7) 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (Joh 5,38; Joh 8,37; 1Joh 5,10)
