Ieremia profețește în Templu

1 Acesta este Cuvântul care a venit din partea DOMNULUI la începutul domniei lui Iehoiachim, fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda: 2 „Stai în curtea Casei DOMNULUI și spune‑le celor ce vin să se închine în Casa DOMNULUI din toate cetățile lui Iuda, toate cuvintele pe care ți le poruncesc; să nu omiți niciun cuvânt. 3 Poate că vor asculta și se vor întoarce fiecare de la calea lor cea rea. Atunci Mă voi căi de răul pe care plănuisem să li‑l fac din cauza răutății faptelor lor. 4 Să le spui: «Așa vorbește DOMNUL: ‘Dacă nu Mă ascultați când vă poruncesc să urmați Legea Mea pe care v‑am pus‑o înainte, 5 dacă nu ascultați cuvintele robilor Mei, profeții, pe care vi i‑am trimis dis‑de‑dimineaţă și de care nu ați ascultat până acum, 6 atunci voi face Casei acesteia ca lui Șilo și voi face din cetatea aceasta o pricină de blestem pentru toate neamurile pământului.’»“ 7 Preoții, profeții și întregul popor l‑au auzit pe Ieremia rostind aceste cuvinte în Casa DOMNULUI. 8 De îndată ce Ieremia a terminat de spus tot ceea ce‑i poruncise DOMNUL să spună, preoții, profeții și întregul popor au pus mâna pe el și i‑au zis: – Sigur vei muri! 9 De ce profețești în Numele DOMNULUI, zicând: „Casa aceasta va ajunge ca Șilo și cetatea aceasta va fi pustiită și lipsită de locuitori?“ Tot poporul s‑a adunat în jurul lui Ieremia, în Casa DOMNULUI. 10 Când conducătorii lui Iuda au auzit aceste lucruri, s‑au suit de la palat la Casa DOMNULUI și s‑au așezat la intrarea Porții celei Noi a Casei DOMNULUI. 11 Apoi preoții și profeții au vorbit conducătorilor și întregului popor, zicând: – Să se hotărască condamnarea la moarte a acestui om, pentru că a profețit împotriva acestei cetăți. Voi înșivă l‑ați auzit cu urechile voastre. 12 Ieremia le‑a zis conducătorilor și întregului popor: – DOMNUL m‑a trimis să profețesc împotriva acestei Case și împotriva acestei cetăți toate cuvintele pe care le‑ați auzit. 13 Acum, îndreptați‑vă căile și faptele și ascultați de glasul DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul vostru, iar DOMNUL Se va căi de răul pe care l‑a rostit împotriva voastră. 14 Cât despre mine, iată‑mă în mâinile voastre! Faceți‑mi așa cum credeți că este bine și drept.^[1] 15 Dar să știți că dacă mă veți omorî, vă veți face vinovați de vărsare de sânge nevinovat, voi, cetatea aceasta și locuitorii ei, căci, în adevăr, DOMNUL m‑a trimis la voi să spun toate aceste cuvinte în auzul urechilor voastre. 16 Atunci conducătorii poporului și întreg poporul le‑au zis preoților și profeților: – Omul acesta nu trebuie condamnat la moarte, căci ne‑a vorbit în Numele DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul nostru. 17 Unii din bătrânii țării s‑au ridicat și au vorbit întregii adunări a poporului, zicând: 18 – Mica din Moreșet, profețea în zilele lui Ezechia, regele lui Iuda, și spunea întregului popor al lui Iuda: „Așa vorbește DOMNUL Oștirilor: «Sionul va fi arat ca un ogor, Ierusalimul va deveni un morman de ruine, iar muntele Casei va deveni o înălțime acoperită cu păduri.»“^[2] (Mica 3:12) 19 L‑a omorât oare Ezechia, regele lui Iuda, sau cineva din Iuda? Nu s‑a temut Ezechia de DOMNUL și n‑a căutat el fața DOMNULUI? Și nu S‑a căit DOMNUL atunci de răul pe care‑l rostise împotriva lor? Iar noi să ne împovărăm sufletele cu un rău așa de mare? 20 A mai fost însă un om care profețea în Numele DOMNULUI: Urie, fiul lui Șemaia, din Chiriat-Iearim. El a profețit împotriva cetății acesteia și împotriva țării acesteia întocmai aceleași cuvinte ca Ieremia. 21 Regele Iehoiachim, toți vitejii lui și toți conducătorii lui au auzit cuvintele lui și regele a căutat să‑l omoare. Dar Urie a fost înștiințat de lucrul acesta, s‑a temut și a fugit în Egipt. 22 Regele Iehoiachim a trimis niște oameni în Egipt: pe Elnatan, fiul lui Acbor, și pe alții împreună cu el. 23 Aceștia l‑au scos pe Urie din Egipt și l‑au adus la regele Iehoiachim, care l‑a ucis cu sabia și i‑a aruncat cadavrul în mormântul fiilor poporului. 24 Totuși, Ahikam, fiul lui Șafan, l‑a sprijinit pe Ieremia, nelăsând să fie dat pe mâna poporului ca să fie omorât.

Jeremiah’s enemies try to have him killed

1 A message from the LORD came to Jeremiah. It was shortly after Jehoiakim became king of Judah. He was the son of Josiah. 2 The LORD said to Jeremiah, ‘Stand in the courtyard of my house. Speak to the people of the towns in Judah. Speak to all those who come to worship in my house. Tell them everything I command you. Do not leave out a single word. 3 Perhaps they will listen. Maybe they will turn from their evil ways. Then I will not do what I said I would. I will not bring trouble on them. I had planned to punish them because of the evil things they had done. 4 Tell them, “The LORD says, ‘Listen to me. Obey my law that I gave you. 5 And listen to the words my servants the prophets are speaking. I have sent them to you again and again. But you have not listened to them. 6 So I will make this house like Shiloh. All the nations on earth will use the name of this city in a curse.’ ” ’ 7 Jeremiah spoke these words in the LORD’s house. The priests, the prophets and all the people heard him. 8 Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the LORD had commanded him to say. But as soon as he did, the priests, the prophets and all the people grabbed him. They said, ‘You must die! 9 Why do you prophesy these things in the LORD’s name? Why do you say that this house will become like Shiloh? Why do you say that this city will be empty and deserted?’ And all the people crowded around Jeremiah in the LORD’s house. 10 The officials of Judah heard what had happened. So they went up from the royal palace to the LORD’s house. There they took their places at the entrance of the New Gate. 11 Then the priests and prophets spoke to the officials and all the people. They said, ‘This man should be sentenced to death. He has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!’ 12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and people. He said, ‘The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and this city. He told me to say everything you have heard. 13 So change the way you live and act. Obey the LORD your God. Then he won’t do what he said he would. He won’t bring on you the trouble he said he would bring. 14 As for me, I’m in your hands. Do to me what you think is good and right. 15 But you can be sure of one thing. If you put me to death, you will be held responsible for spilling my blood. And I haven’t even done anything wrong. You will bring guilt on yourselves and this city and those who live in it. The LORD has sent me to you. He wanted me to say all these things so you could hear them. And that’s the truth.’ 16 Then the officials and all the people spoke to the priests and prophets. They said, ‘This man shouldn’t be sentenced to death! He has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.’ 17 Some of the elders of the land stepped forward. They spoke to the whole community gathered there. They said, 18 ‘Micah from Moresheth prophesied. It was during the time Hezekiah was king over Judah. Micah spoke to all the people of Judah. He told them, “The LORD who rules over all says, ‘ “ ‘Zion will be ploughed up like a field. Jerusalem will be turned into a pile of rubble. The temple hill will be covered with bushes and weeds.’ ” (Mica 3:12) 19 Did King Hezekiah or anyone else in Judah put Micah to death? Hezekiah had respect for the LORD and tried to please him. And the LORD didn’t judge Jerusalem as he said he would. He didn’t bring on it the trouble he said he would bring. But we are about to bring horrible trouble on ourselves!’ 20 Uriah was another man who prophesied in the name of the LORD. He was from Kiriath Jearim. He was the son of Shemaiah. Uriah prophesied against this city and this land. He said the same things Jeremiah did. 21 King Jehoiakim and all his officers and officials heard Uriah’s words. So the king decided to put him to death. But Uriah heard about it. He was afraid. And he ran away to Egypt. 22 So King Jehoiakim sent Elnathan to Egypt. He also sent some other men along with him. Elnathan was the son of Akbor. 23 Those men brought Uriah out of Egypt. They took him to King Jehoiakim. Then the king had Uriah struck down with a sword. He had Uriah’s body thrown into one of the graves of the ordinary people. 24 In spite of that, Ahikam stood up for Jeremiah. Ahikam was the son of Shaphan. Because of Ahikam, Jeremiah wasn’t handed over to the people to be put to death.
