Авраам и Сарра у Авимелеха

1 Оттуда Авраам перебрался в область Негев и поселился между Кадешем и Шуром. Он жил пришельцем в Гераре 2 и там сказал о своей жене Сарре: «Она – моя сестра». Авимелех, царь Герара, послал за Саррой и взял ее к себе. 3 Но Бог явился к Авимелеху ночью во сне и сказал ему: – Тебе грозит смерть за женщину, которую ты взял к себе: она замужем. 4 Но Авимелех не прикасался к ней, и поэтому он сказал: – Владыка, неужели Ты уничтожишь невинный народ? 5 Ведь он мне сказал: «Она – моя сестра», и она сказала: «Он – мой брат». В этом деле совесть моя чиста и руки невинны. 6 Бог сказал ему во сне: – Да, Я знаю, что совесть твоя чиста: это Я удержал тебя от греха против Меня, поэтому и не позволил тебе прикоснуться к ней. 7 Теперь верни жену мужу, потому что он – пророк, он помолится за тебя, и ты останешься жив. Но если ты не вернешь ее, знай, что тебе и твоим близким не избежать смерти. 8 На другой день рано утром Авимелех собрал всех своих приближенных и рассказал им, что случилось, и они сильно испугались. 9 Потом Авимелех позвал Авраама и сказал: – Что ты с нами сделал? Какое зло я тебе причинил, что ты навел такую тяжкую вину на меня и мое царство? Ты поступил со мной так, как нельзя поступать. 10 И Авимелех спросил Авраама: – Что было у тебя на уме, когда ты сделал такое? 11 Авраам ответил: – Я подумал: «В этом месте, конечно, нет страха Божьего, и они убьют меня за мою жену». 12 Кроме того, она действительно моя сестра – дочь моего отца, хотя и не от моей матери; и она стала моей женой. 13 Когда Бог отправил меня странствовать из дома моего отца, я сказал ей: «Окажи мне такую услугу: куда бы мы ни пришли, говори обо мне: „Он мой брат“». 14 Тогда Авимелех привел мелкий и крупный скот, рабов и рабынь, дал их Аврааму; и вернул ему его жену Сарру. 15 Авимелех сказал: – Моя земля перед тобой: живи, где хочешь. 16 Сарре он сказал: – Я даю твоему брату тысячу шекелей серебра^[1], чтобы покрыть твою обиду в глазах всего твоего дома; честь твоя восстановлена. 17 Авраам помолился Богу, и Бог исцелил Авимелеха и его жену, и рабынь, чтобы они снова могли иметь детей, 18 потому что Господь закрыл в Авимелеховом доме всякое чрево из-за Авраамовой жены Сарры.

2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. (1Mo 12,13; 1Mo 26,7) 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.” (Hi 33,15; Ps 105,14; Mt 1,20; Mt 2,12)

4 Now Abimelech had not approached her. So he said, “Lord, will you kill an innocent people? (1Mo 18,23; 1Chr 21,17) 5 Did he not himself say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this.” 6 Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her. (1Mo 39,9; Ps 51,4) 7 Now then, return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you shall live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.” (4Mo 16,32; 1Sam 7,5; Hi 42,8) 8 So Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all these things. And the men were very much afraid. 9 Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.” 10 And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you did this thing?” 11 Abraham said, “I did it because I thought, ‘There is no fear of God at all in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’ (1Mo 12,12; 1Mo 26,7; Spr 16,6) 12 Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father though not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife. (1Mo 11,29) 13 And when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is the kindness you must do me: at every place to which we come, say of me, “He is my brother.”’” (1Mo 12,1; 1Mo 12,13) 14 Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and returned Sarah his wife to him. (1Mo 12,16) 15 And Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you; dwell where it pleases you.” (1Mo 13,9; 1Mo 34,10) 16 To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. It is a sign of your innocence in the eyes of all^[1] who are with you, and before everyone you are vindicated.” (1Mo 20,5; 1Mo 24,65) 17 Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and also healed his wife and female slaves so that they bore children. (Jak 5,16) 18 For the Lord had closed all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife. (1Mo 12,17)
