New International Version

1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. 3 The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. 4 The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit. 5 A fool spurns a parent’s discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence. 6 The house of the righteous contains great treasure, but the income of the wicked brings ruin. 7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but the hearts of fools are not upright. 8 The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him. 9 The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness. 10 Stern discipline awaits anyone who leaves the path; the one who hates correction will die. 11 Death and Destruction^[1] lie open before the Lord – how much more do human hearts! 12 Mockers resent correction, so they avoid the wise. 13 A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit. 14 The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly. 15 All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast. 16 Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil. 17 Better a dish of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred. 18 A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel. 19 The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway. 20 A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother. 21 Folly brings joy to one who has no sense, but whoever has understanding keeps a straight course. 22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed. 23 A person finds joy in giving an apt reply – and how good is a timely word! 24 The path of life leads upward for the prudent to keep them from going down to the realm of the dead. 25 The Lord tears down the house of the proud, but he sets the widow’s boundary stones in place. 26 The Lord detests the thoughts of the wicked, but gracious words are pure in his sight. 27 The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hates bribes will live. 28 The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. 29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous. 30 Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones. 31 Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise. 32 Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding. 33 Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honour.

1 جواب ملايم خشم را فرو مینشاند، اما جواب تند آن را بر میانگيزاند. 2 از زبان مرد دانا حكمت میچكد، اما از دهان آدم نادان حماقت بيرون میآيد. 3 خدا همه جا را زير نظر دارد و ناظر اعمال نيكان و بدان است. 4 سخنان آرامشبخش حيات میبخشند، اما حرفهای تند باعث دلشكستگی میشوند. 5 شخص نادان نصيحت پدر خود را خوار میشمارد، ولی فرزند عاقل تأديب پدرش را میپذيرد. 6 خانهٔ شخص درستكار از ثروت مملو است، اما دسترنج آدمهای بدكار برای ايشان تلخكامی به بار میآورد. 7 حكمت توسط دانايان منتشر میشود نه بوسيلهٔ احمقانی كه در آنها راستی نيست. 8 خداوند از قربانیهای بدكاران نفرت دارد، اما از دعای درستكاران خشنود است. 9 خداوند از اعمال بدكاران متنفر است، اما پيروان راستی را دوست میدارد. 10 كسانی كه راه راست را ترک گفتهاند تنبيه سختی در انتظارشان است و اگر نخواهند تنبيه و اصلاح شوند خواهند مرد. 11 حتی دنيای مردگان از نظر خداوند پنهان نيست، پس آيا انسان میتواند افكارش را از او پنهان كند؟ 12 كسی كه كارش مسخره كردن است از نزديک شدن به افراد دانا خودداری میكند چون دوست ندارد سرزنش آنها را بشنود. 13 دل شاد، چهره را شاداب میسازد، اما تلخی دل، روح را افسرده میكند. 14 شخص دانا تشنهٔ دانايی است، اما نادان خود را با حماقت سير میكند. 15 انسان وقتی غمگين است همه چيز به نظرش بد میآيد، اما وقتی دلش شاد است هر چيزی او را خوشحال میكند. 16 دارايی كم همراه با خداترسی بهتر است از ثروت هنگفت با اضطراب. 17 نان خشک خوردن در جايی كه محبت هست، بهتر است از غذای شاهانه خوردن در جايی كه نفرت وجود دارد. 18 آدم تندخو نزاع به پا میكند، ولی شخص صبور دعوا را فرو مینشاند. 19 راه آدم تنبل با خارها پوشيده است، اما راه شخص درستكار هموار است. 20 فرزند دانا پدرش را خوشحال میكند، اما فرزند احمق مادرش را تحقير مینمايد. 21 آدم احمق از كارهای ابلهانه لذت میبرد، اما شخص فهميده از راه راست منحرف نمیشود. 22 نقشهای كه بدون مشورت كشيده شود، با شكست مواجه میگردد، اما مشورت بسيار، باعث موفقيت میشود. 23 انسان وقتی جواب درست میدهد از آن لذت میبرد. چه عالی است سخنی كه بجا گفته شود! 24 راه دانايان به سوی حيات بالا میرود و آنها را از فرو رفتن به جهنم باز میدارد. 25 خداوند خانه متكبران را از بين میبرد، اما ملک بيوهزنان را حفظ میكند. 26 خداوند از نقشههای پليد متنفر است، ولی افكار پاک مورد پسند او میباشند. 27 كسی كه دنبال سود نامشروع میرود به خانوادهاش لطمه میزند، اما شخصی كه از رشوه نفرت دارد زندگی خوبی خواهد داشت. 28 آدم خوب قبل از جواب دادن فكر میكند، اما آدم بد زود جواب میدهد و مشكلات به بار میآورد. 29 خداوند از بدكاران دور است، ولی دعای نيكان را میشنود. 30 ديدن صورت شاد و شنيدن خبر خوش به انسان شادی و سلامتی میبخشد. 31 كسی كه انتقادهای سازنده را بپذيرد، جزو دانايان به حساب خواهد آمد. 32 كسی كه تأديب را نپذيرد به خودش لطمه میزند، ولی هر كه آن را بپذيرد دانايی كسب میكند. 33 خداترسی به انسان حكمت میآموزد و فروتنی برای او عزت و احترام به بار میآورد.
