1Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;2(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)3By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,4Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;5Build ye houses, and dwell in them ; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;6Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.7And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.8For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.9For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.10For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.12Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.13And ye shall seek me, and find me , when ye shall search for me with all your heart.14And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.15Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;16Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;17Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.18And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:19Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them ; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.20Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:21Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;22And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;23Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.24Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,25Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,26The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.27Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?28For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them ; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.29And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.30Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,31Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:32Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.

Jeremias Brief an die Weggeführten in Babel
1Und dies sind die Worte des Briefes, den der Prophet Jeremia von Jerusalem an den Überrest der Ältesten der Weggeführten sandte, sowie an die Priester und Propheten und an das ganze Volk, das Nebukadnezar von Jerusalem nach Babel weggeführt hatte, (Jer 24:1; Jer 28:4)2nachdem der König Jechonja mit der Königin, mit den Kämmerern und Fürsten von Juda und Jerusalem, auch mit den Schmieden und Schlossern Jerusalem verlassen hatte. (2Ki 24:8; Jer 24:1; Jer 27:20; Da 1:3; Da 1:11)3Durch die Hand Eleasars, des Sohnes Schaphans, und Gemarjas, den Sohn Hilkias, die Zedekia, der König von Juda, nach Babel zu Nebukadnezar, dem König von Babel, gesandt hatte, ließ [Jeremia] sagen: (Jer 26:24)4So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, zu allen Weggeführten, die ich von Jerusalem nach Babel weggeführt habe: (Jer 24:5; Jer 43:3; Eze 39:23; Eze 39:28)5Baut Häuser und wohnt darin; pflanzt Gärten und esst ihre Früchte; (Jer 29:28; Eze 28:26)6nehmt Frauen und zeugt Söhne und Töchter; und nehmt Frauen für eure Söhne, und eure Töchter gebt Männern zur Frau, damit sie Söhne und Töchter gebären, damit ihr euch dort mehrt und eure Zahl nicht abnimmt! Und ich werde euer Geschick wenden und euch sammeln aus allen Völkern und von allen Orten, zu denen ich euch verstoßen habe, spricht der HERR; und ich werde euch wieder an den Ort zurückbringen, von dem ich euch weggeführt habe. (1Ch 28:9; Ps 46:2; Ps 126:1; Isa 45:19; Isa 55:6; Jer 23:3; Jer 30:3; Am 9:14)15Weil ihr aber sagt: »Der HERR hat uns in Babel Propheten erweckt!« (Jer 29:8)16— fürwahr, so spricht der HERR über den König, der auf dem Thron Davids sitzt, und über das ganze Volk, das in dieser Stadt wohnt, über eure Brüder, die nicht mit euch in die Gefangenschaft gezogen sind, (Jer 28:1)17so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Siehe, ich sende das Schwert, die Hungersnot und die Pest gegen sie und will sie machen wie die abscheulichen Feigen, die man vor Schlechtigkeit nicht essen kann; (Jer 24:1; Jer 24:8; Jer 24:10; Jer 34:17)18und ich will sie mit dem Schwert, mit Hungersnot und Pest verfolgen und will sie zum Schrecken für alle Königreiche der Erde machen, zum Fluch und zum Entsetzen, zum Spott und zum Hohn unter allen Völkern, wohin ich sie vertrieben habe, (Jer 15:4; Jer 24:9; Jer 26:6; Jer 42:18; Eze 5:15)19dafür, dass sie nicht auf meine Worte gehört haben, spricht der HERR, da ich doch meine Knechte, die Propheten, zu ihnen gesandt habe, indem ich mich früh aufmachte und sie [immer wieder] sandte; ihr aber habt nicht gehört!, spricht der HERR. (Jer 7:13; Jer 7:25; Jer 32:33)20So hört das Wort des HERRN, ihr Weggeführten alle, die ich von Jerusalem nach Babel weggeschickt habe! (Jer 29:1; Jer 29:4; Eze 3:11; Eze 3:15; Eze 24:5)21So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, über Ahab, den Sohn Kolajas, und über Zedekia, den Sohn Maasejas, die euch Lügen weissagen in meinem Namen: Siehe, ich gebe sie in die Hand Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babel, und er wird sie vor euren Augen erschlagen; (Jer 14:14; Jer 29:8; La 2:14)22und man wird sie für alle Weggeführten Judas, die in Babel sind, zu einem Fluchwort machen, sodass man sagen wird: »Der HERR mache dich wie Zedekia und Ahab, die der König von Babel im Feuer braten ließ!« (Isa 65:15; Da 3:6; Da 3:21)23Denn sie haben eine Schandtat begangen in Israel: Sie haben mit den Frauen ihrer Nächsten Ehebruch getrieben und in meinem Namen erlogene Worte geredet, die ich ihnen nicht befohlen habe. Ich weiß es genau, denn ich bin Zeuge, spricht der HERR. (Jer 13:27; Jer 23:14; Jer 23:32; Mal 3:5)24Und zu Schemaja, dem Nechelamiter, sollst du folgendermaßen reden: (Jer 29:31)25So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Weil du in deinem eigenen Namen Briefe gesandt hast an das ganze Volk in Jerusalem und an Zephanja, den Sohn Maasejas, den Priester, wie auch an alle Priester, und gesagt hast: (Pr 10:7; Jer 21:1; Joh 5:43)26»Der HERR hat dich anstelle des Priesters Jojada zum Priester gemacht, damit du Aufseher bestellst im Haus des HERRN über alle Wahnsinnigen und alle, die als Propheten auftreten, dass du sie in den Stock und in das Halseisen legst. (2Ki 9:11; 2Ch 16:10; 2Ch 18:26; Jer 20:1; Jer 20:2; Jer 38:6; Jer 38:28)27Nun, warum hast du dann Jeremia von Anatot nicht gestraft, der euch gegenüber als Prophet auftritt? (Nu 16:3; Isa 30:8; Jer 43:13)28Ja, überdies hat er uns in Babel sagen lassen: Es wird lange dauern! Baut Häuser und wohnt darin; pflanzt Gärten und esst ihre Früchte!« (Jer 29:1)29Der Priester Zephanja hatte diesen Brief nämlich vor den Ohren des Propheten Jeremia vorgelesen. (Jer 29:25)30Da erging das Wort des HERRN an Jeremia folgendermaßen:31Sende hin zu allen Weggeführten und sprich: So spricht der HERR über Schemaja, den Nechelamiter: Weil euch Schemaja geweissagt hat, ohne dass ich ihn gesandt habe, und er euch auf Lügen vertrauen lehrt, (Jer 14:14; Jer 29:9; Jer 29:20; Jer 29:23)32deshalb spricht der HERR so: Siehe, ich will Schemaja, den Nechelamiter, und seinen Samen heimsuchen; er soll keinen [Nachkommen] haben, der inmitten dieses Volkes wohnt, und er soll das Gute nicht sehen, das ich diesem Volk tun werde, spricht der HERR; denn er hat Widerstand gegen den HERRN verkündet! (Jer 28:15; Jer 29:10; Eze 20:38)
