1In Cäsarea lebte ein Mann namens Kornelius, Hauptmann in der sogenannten Italischen Kohorte;2er lebte mit seinem ganzen Haus fromm und gottesfürchtig, gab dem Volk reichlich Almosen und betete beständig zu Gott.3Er sah um die neunte Tagesstunde in einer Vision deutlich, wie ein Engel Gottes bei ihm eintrat und zu ihm sagte: Kornelius!4Kornelius blickte ihn an und fragte erschrocken: Was ist, Herr? Er sagte zu ihm: Deine Gebete und Almosen sind zu Gott gelangt und er hat ihrer gedacht.5Schick jetzt einige Männer nach Joppe und lass einen gewissen Simon herbeiholen, der den Beinamen Petrus hat.6Er ist zu Gast bei einem Gerber namens Simon, der ein Haus am Meer hat. (Apg 9,43)7Als der Engel, der mit ihm sprach, weggegangen war, rief Kornelius zwei seiner Haussklaven und einen frommen Soldaten von denen, die ihm treu ergeben waren.8Er erzählte ihnen alles und schickte sie nach Joppe.
Die Vision des Petrus in Joppe
9Am folgenden Tag, als jene unterwegs waren und sich der Stadt näherten, stieg Petrus auf das Dach, um zu beten; es war um die sechste Stunde. (Apg 11,5)10Da wurde er hungrig und wollte essen. Während man etwas zubereitete, kam eine Verzückung über ihn.11Er sah den Himmel offen und eine Art Gefäß herabkommen, das aussah wie ein großes Leinentuch, das, an den vier Ecken gehalten, auf die Erde heruntergelassen wurde.12Darin waren alle möglichen Vierfüßler, Kriechtiere der Erde und Vögel des Himmels.13Und eine Stimme rief ihm zu: Steh auf, Petrus, schlachte und iss!14Petrus aber antwortete: Niemals, Herr! Noch nie habe ich etwas Unheiliges und Unreines gegessen. (3Mo 11,1; Hes 4,14)15Da erging die Stimme ein zweites Mal an ihn: Was Gott für rein erklärt hat, nenne du nicht unrein! (Mk 7,15; Röm 14,14; Gal 2,12)16Das geschah dreimal und sogleich wurde das Gefäß in den Himmel hinaufgenommen.17Petrus war noch ratlos und überlegte, was die Vision, die er gehabt hatte, wohl bedeutete; siehe, da standen die von Kornelius gesandten Männer, die sich zum Haus des Simon durchgefragt hatten, am Tor.18Sie riefen und fragten, ob Simon mit dem Beinamen Petrus hier zu Gast sei.19Während Petrus noch über die Vision nachdachte, sagte der Geist zu ihm: Siehe, da sind drei Männer und suchen dich. Die Taufe des heidnischen Hauptmanns Kornelius
23Da ließ er sie eintreten und nahm sie gastlich auf. Tags darauf machte er sich mit ihnen auf den Weg und einige Brüder aus Joppe begleiteten ihn.24Am folgenden Tag kamen sie nach Cäsarea. Kornelius erwartete sie schon und hatte seine Verwandten und seine nächsten Freunde zusammengerufen.25Als nun Petrus ankam, ging ihm Kornelius entgegen und warf sich ihm ehrfürchtig zu Füßen.26Petrus aber richtete ihn auf und sagte: Steh auf! Auch ich bin nur ein Mensch. (Apg 14,15; Offb 19,10)27Während er sich mit ihm unterhielt, ging er hinein und fand dort viele Menschen versammelt.28Da sagte er zu ihnen: Ihr wisst, dass es einem Juden nicht erlaubt ist, mit einem Nichtjuden zu verkehren oder sein Haus zu betreten; mir aber hat Gott gezeigt, dass man keinen Menschen unheilig oder unrein nennen darf. (Apg 11,3; Gal 2,12)29Darum bin ich auch ohne Widerspruch gekommen, als nach mir geschickt wurde. Nun frage ich: Warum habt ihr mich holen lassen?30Da sagte Kornelius: Vor vier Tagen um diese Zeit war ich zum Gebet der neunten Stunde in meinem Haus; siehe, da stand ein Mann in einem leuchtenden Gewand vor mir31und sagte: Kornelius, dein Gebet wurde erhört und deiner Almosen wurde vor Gott gedacht.32Schick jemanden nach Joppe und lass Simon, der den Beinamen Petrus hat, holen; er ist Gast im Haus des Gerbers Simon am Meer.33Sofort habe ich nach dir geschickt und es ist gut, dass du gekommen bist. (Jes 52,7; 1Kor 12,3)37Ihr wisst, was im ganzen Land der Juden geschehen ist, angefangen in Galiläa, nach der Taufe, die Johannes verkündet hat: (Apg 13,1)38wie Gott Jesus von Nazaret gesalbt hat mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Kraft, wie dieser umherzog, Gutes tat und alle heilte, die in der Gewalt des Teufels waren; denn Gott war mit ihm. (Jes 7,14; Jes 61,1; Mt 1,23; Lk 3,22; Lk 4,18)39Und wir sind Zeugen für alles, was er im Land der Juden und in Jerusalem getan hat. Ihn haben sie an den Pfahl gehängt und getötet. (Apg 17,31; Röm 14,9; 2Tim 4,1; 1Petr 4,5)43Von ihm bezeugen alle Propheten, dass jeder, der an ihn glaubt, durch seinen Namen die Vergebung der Sünden empfängt. (Jes 33,24; Jes 53,5; Jer 31,34; Dan 9,24; Apg 13,38)44Noch während Petrus dies sagte, kam der Heilige Geist auf alle herab, die das Wort hörten. (Apg 2,4)45Die gläubig gewordenen Juden, die mit Petrus gekommen waren, konnten es nicht fassen, dass auch auf die Heiden die Gabe des Heiligen Geistes ausgegossen wurde.46Denn sie hörten sie in Zungen reden und Gott preisen. Petrus aber sagte: (Apg 19,6)47Kann jemand denen das Wasser zur Taufe verweigern, die ebenso wie wir den Heiligen Geist empfangen haben?48Und er ordnete an, sie im Namen Jesu Christi zu taufen. 1At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort, (Mt 27,27; Mk 15,16; Joh 18,3; Joh 18,12)2a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God. (Apg 10,22; Apg 13,16; Apg 13,26)3About the ninth hour of the day[1] he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.” (Apg 3,1; Apg 8,26; Apg 10,17; Apg 10,19)4And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God. 9The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour[2] to pray. (1Sam 9,25; 2Kön 23,12; Ps 55,17; Jer 19,13; Jer 32,29; Zef 1,5; Apg 11,5)10And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance (Apg 22,17)11and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. 44While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. (Apg 2,4; Apg 11,15; Apg 15,8; 1Thess 1,5)45And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. (Apg 2,17; Apg 2,38; Apg 10,23; Apg 11,2)46For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God.
