Warning Against the Adulteress

1 My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; (Pr 2:1) 2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; (De 32:10; Pr 4:4) 3 bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. (Pr 3:3) 4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend, 5 to keep you from the forbidden^[1] woman, from the adulteress^[2] with her smooth words. (Pr 2:16) 6 For at the window of my house I have looked out through my lattice, (Jud 5:28) 7 and I have seen among the simple, I have perceived among the youths, a young man lacking sense, (Pr 1:4; Pr 6:32) 8 passing along the street near her corner, taking the road to her house (Pr 7:12) 9 in the twilight, in the evening, at the time of night and darkness. (Job 24:15; Pr 20:20) 10 And behold, the woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart.^[3] (Ge 38:14) 11 She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay at home; (Pr 9:13; Ho 4:16; 1Ti 5:13; Tit 2:5)

12 now in the street, now in the market, and at every corner she lies in wait. (Ec 9:12) 24 And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth. (Pr 4:1) 25 Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths, 26 for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng. 1 Mein Sohn, behalte meine Rede und verwahre meine Gebote bei dir. 2 Behalte meine Gebote, so wirst du leben, und hüte meine Weisung wie deinen Augapfel. 3 Binde sie an deine Finger, schreibe sie auf die Tafel deines Herzens. 4 Sprich zur Weisheit: Du bist meine Schwester, und nenne die Klugheit deine Freundin, 5 dass sie dich behüte vor der fremden Frau, vor der Fremden, die glatte Worte gibt. 6 Denn am Fenster meines Hauses guckte ich durchs Gitter 7 und sah einen unter den Unverständigen und erblickte unter den jungen Leuten einen Jüngling ohne Verstand. 8 Der ging über die Gasse zu ihrer Ecke und schritt daher auf dem Wege zu ihrem Hause 9 in der Dämmerung, am Abend des Tages, als es Nacht wurde und dunkel war. 10 Und siehe, da begegnete ihm eine Frau im Hurengewand, listig, 11 wild und unbändig, dass ihre Füße nicht in ihrem Hause bleiben können. 12 Jetzt ist sie draußen, jetzt auf der Gasse und lauert an allen Ecken. 13 Und sie erwischt ihn und küsst ihn, wird dreist und spricht: 14 »Ich hatte Dankopfer zu bringen, heute habe ich meine Gelübde erfüllt. (Le 7:15) 15 Darum bin ich ausgegangen, dir entgegen, um nach dir zu suchen, und habe dich gefunden. 16 Ich habe mein Bett schön geschmückt mit bunten Decken aus Ägypten. 17 Ich habe mein Lager mit Myrrhe besprengt, mit Aloe und Zimt. 18 Komm, wir wollen uns satt trinken an der Liebe bis zum Morgen, lass uns die Liebe genießen. 19 Denn der Mann ist nicht daheim, er ist auf eine weite Reise gegangen. 20 Er hat den Geldbeutel mit sich genommen; er wird erst zum Vollmond wieder heimkommen.« 21 Sie überredet ihn mit vielen Worten und gewinnt ihn mit ihrem glatten Munde. 22 Er folgt ihr alsbald nach, wie ein Stier zur Schlachtbank geführt wird, und wie ein Hirsch, der ins Netz rennt, 23 bis ihm der Pfeil die Leber spaltet; wie ein Vogel zur Schlinge eilt und weiß nicht, dass es das Leben gilt. 24 So hört nun auf mich, meine Söhne, und merkt auf die Rede meines Mundes. 25 Lass dein Herz nicht abweichen auf ihren Weg und irre nicht ab auf ihre Bahn. 26 Denn zahlreich sind die Erschlagenen, die sie gefällt hat, und viele sind, die sie getötet hat. 27 Ihr Haus ist der Weg ins Totenreich, da man hinunterfährt in des Todes Kammern.
