1Porque quiero que sepáis cuán grande lucha tengo por vosotros, y por los que están en Laodicea, y por todos los que no han visto mi rostro;2para que sean consolados sus corazones, unidos en amor, hasta alcanzar toda riqueza de plena certidumbre del entendimiento, a fin de conocer completamente el misterio de Dios: El Mesías;3en el cual están escondidos todos los tesoros de la sabiduría y del conocimiento.4Digo esto para que nadie os engañe con sofismas,5pues aunque estoy ausente en el cuerpo, no obstante en el espíritu estoy con vosotros, regocijándome y viendo vuestro buen orden, y la firmeza de vuestra fe en el Mesías.6Por tanto, de la manera que recibisteis al Señor Jesús, el Mesías, vivid en Él,7arraigados y sobreedificados en Él, y consolidados en la fe, como fuisteis enseñados, rebosando en acción de gracias.
La plenitud de la Deidad
8Mirad que no haya quien os esclavice por medio de filosofías y huecas sutilezas, según la tradición de los hombres, conforme a los rudimentos del mundo, y no según el Mesías.9Porque en Él vive corporalmente toda la plenitud de la Naturaleza Divina,10y estáis completos en Él, el cual es la cabeza de todo principado y potestad;11en quien también fuisteis circuncidados con una circuncisión hecha sin mano, desvistiéndoos enteramente del cuerpo de la carne, por medio de la circuncisión del Mesías;12sepultados juntamente con Él en el bautismo, en el cual también fuisteis resucitados con Él, por medio de la fe en el poder de Dios que lo resucitó de entre los muertos.13Y a vosotros, estando muertos en los delitos y en la incircuncisión de vuestra carne, os dio vida juntamente con Él, perdonándonos todos los delitos,14anulando el acta de los decretos que había contra nosotros, que nos era contraria, quitándola de en medio y clavándola en la cruz,15y habiendo en ella desarmado completamente a los principados y a las potestades, los exhibió públicamente en el desfile triunfal.
Contra las falsas enseñanzas
16Por tanto, nadie os juzgue en comida, o en bebida, o respecto a solemnidades, o novilunio, o sábados,17todo lo cual es sombra de las cosas venideras, pero la realidad es del Mesías.18Nadie os prive del galardón, deleitándose en su humildad y en la adoración de los ángeles, alardeando por cosas que ha visto, vanamente hinchado por su propia mente carnal,19y no aferrándose a la Cabeza, de la cual todo el cuerpo, sustentado y unido por medio de coyunturas y ligamentos, crece con el crecimiento de Dios.20Si habéis muerto con el Mesías a los rudimentos del mundo, ¿por qué, como si vivierais en el mundo, os sometéis a preceptos:21No uses, ni comas, ni toques22(según mandamientos y doctrinas de hombres), cosas que están todas destinadas a perecer con el uso?23Tales cosas tienen en verdad cierta reputación de sabiduría en una religión impuesta por uno mismo, y en una falsa humildad y severo trato del cuerpo, pero no tienen valor alguno contra los apetitos de la carne.

1For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;2That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;3In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.4And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.5For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:7Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:11In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,19And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.20Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,21(Touch not; taste not; handle not;22Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
