La Piedra escogida

1 Desechando pues toda malicia, y todo engaño, fingimientos y envidias, y todas las maledicencias, 

2 desead como niños recién nacidos la leche espiritual no adulterada, para que por ella crezcáis en salvación, 

3 ya que habéis gustado que el Señor es bondadoso. 

4 Acercándoos a Él, piedra viva, desechada ciertamente por los hombres, mas para Dios escogida, preciosa. 

5 Vosotros también, como piedras vivas, estáis siendo edificados como casa espiritual para un sacerdocio santo, a fin de ofrecer sacrificios espirituales aceptables a Dios por medio de Jesús el Mesías. 

6 Por lo cual contiene la Escritura: He aquí, pongo en Sión una piedra angular, escogida, preciosa; El que cree en ella, no será avergonzado. 

7 Para vosotros pues que creéis, Él es precioso; mas para los incrédulos: La piedra que desecharon los edificadores, Ésta vino a ser piedra angular; 

8 y: Piedra de tropiezo, y roca de escándalo. 

El linaje de Dios

9 Pero vosotros sois linaje escogido, sacerdocio real, nación santa, pueblo por posesión, para que proclaméis las proezas del que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable. 

10 Los que en un tiempo no erais pueblo, pero ahora sois pueblo de Dios; los que no habíais alcanzado misericordia, pero ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia. 

Una vida digna

11 Amados, os ruego, como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que os abstengáis de los deseos carnales que batallan contra el alma, 

12 manteniendo digna vuestra manera de vivir entre los gentiles, para que en lo que murmuran de vosotros como de malhechores, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación, a causa de vuestras buenas obras. 

13 Someteos a toda autoridad humana por causa del Señor, ya sea al rey como al superior, 

14 ya sea a los gobernadores, como a enviados por él para castigo de los malhechores y para alabanza de los que hacen bien. 

15 Porque así es la voluntad de Dios, que haciendo el bien, hagáis callar la ignorancia de los hombres insensatos. 

16 Como libres, pero no como teniendo la libertad por capa de malicia, sino como siervos de Dios. 

17 Honrad a todos, amad a la hermandad, temed a Dios, honrad al rey. 

18 Los criados sométanse con todo temor a los amos, no sólo a los buenos y apacibles, sino también a los de áspera condición. 

19 Porque esto merece aprobación, si alguno, por causa de la conciencia ante Dios, soporta aflicciones padeciendo injustamente. 

20 Porque ¿qué mérito es si por pecar sois abofeteados y lo soportáis? Pero si lo soportáis haciendo el bien y padeciendo, esto ciertamente es aprobado delante de Dios. 

21 Porque para esto fuisteis llamados, pues también el Mesías padeció por vosotros, dejándoos ejemplo, para que sigáis sus pisadas. 

22 El cual no hizo pecado, ni fue hallado engaño en su boca; 

23 quien, cuando era maldecido, no replicaba con una maldición; padeciendo, no amenazaba, sino se encomendaba al que juzga justamente: 

24 Él mismo llevó nuestros pecados en su propio cuerpo sobre el madero, para que nosotros, habiendo muerto a los pecados, vivamos para la justicia. Por sus heridas fuisteis sanados. 

25 Porque erais como ovejas descarriadas, mas ahora fuisteis devueltos al Pastor y Guardián de vuestras almas.

1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 

2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 

3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 

4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 

5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 

6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 

7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 

8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 

12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 

13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 

14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 

15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 

16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 

17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 

18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 

19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 

20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 

21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 

22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 

23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 

25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
