1 Complainte de David qu’il chanta au Seigneur au sujet de ce que Koush[1] le Benjaminite avait dit. (Ps 18:21) 2 O Eternel, mon Dieu, ╵en toi, j’ai un refuge: viens, sauve-moi ╵de ceux qui me poursuivent! ╵Viens donc me délivrer! 3 Sinon, comme des lions[2], ╵ils vont me déchirer, je serai mis en pièces ╵sans que personne ╵ne vienne à mon secours. (1S 17:34; Ps 10:9; Ps 17:12; Ps 22:13; Ps 22:17; Ps 22:21; Ps 25:17; Ps 57:5; Ps 58:7; Ps 124:6) 4 O Eternel, mon Dieu, ╵si j’ai agi ╵comme on me le reproche, si j’ai commis une injustice, 5 si j’ai causé du tort ╵à mon ami, si, sans raison, ╵j’ai dépouillé mon adversaire[3], 6 alors, qu’un ennemi ╵se mette à me poursuivre, qu’il me rattrape et me piétine, qu’il traîne mon honneur ╵dans la poussière. Pause 7 O Eternel, ╵dans ta colère, lève-toi, dresse-toi contre la furie ╵de ceux qui sont mes adversaires entre en action en ma faveur, ╵toi qui as établi le droit. 8 Que les peuples s’assemblent ╵autour de toi, et toi, domine-les ╵des hauteurs de ton trône. 9 O Eternel, ╵toi le juge des peuples, rends-moi justice, ╵et agis selon ma droiture! Qu’il me soit fait ╵selon mon innocence! 10 Mets donc un terme ╵aux méfaits des méchants, et affermis le juste, toi qui es juste ╵et qui sondes les cœurs[4] ╵et les désirs secrets. (Ap 2:23) 11 Dieu est mon bouclier. Il sauve qui a le cœur droit. 12 Dieu est un juste juge, qui, chaque jour, ╵fait sentir son indignation 13 à qui ne revient pas à lui. L’ennemi[5] aiguise son glaive, il tend son arc ╵et se met à viser. 14 Il se prépare ╵des armes meurtrières, et il apprête ╵des flèches enflammées[6]. (Ep 6:16) 15 Il conçoit des méfaits, porte en son sein ╵de quoi répandre la misère, ╵et il accouche de la fausseté. 16 Il creuse en terre ╵un trou profond[7], mais, dans la fosse qu’il a faite, ╵c’est lui qui tombera. 17 Son mauvais coup ╵se retournera contre lui, et sa violence ╵lui retombera sur la tête. 18 Je louerai l’Eternel ╵pour sa justice, je célébrerai par des chants ╵le Dieu très-haut.

1 A Shiggaion[1] of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite. O Lord my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, (Ps 11:1; Ps 31:15; Ha 3:1) 2 lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver. (Jb 10:16; Ps 50:22) 3 O Lord my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, (1S 24:11; 1S 26:18; 2S 16:7; Ps 59:3) 4 if I have repaid my friend[2] with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, (1S 24:7; 1S 26:9; Ps 55:20) 5 let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. (Ps 89:39; Da 8:7) 6 Arise, O Lord, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. (Jb 8:6; Ps 3:7; Ps 35:23; Ps 44:23; Ps 59:4; Ps 94:2; Is 33:10) 7 Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high. 8 The Lord judges the peoples; judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me. (Ps 18:20; Ps 26:1; Ps 35:24; Ps 43:1; Ps 58:11) 9 Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts,[3] O righteous God! (1S 16:7; 1Ch 28:9; Jb 23:10; Ps 11:5; Ps 26:2; Ps 139:1; Jr 11:20; Jr 17:10; Jr 20:12; Ap 2:23) 10 My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. (2Ch 29:34; Ps 62:8) 11 God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. (Jb 8:3; Na 1:2; Na 1:6) 12 If a man[4] does not repent, God[5] will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; (Dt 32:41; Ps 11:2; Ps 21:12; Ps 37:14) 13 he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. (Ps 18:14; Ep 6:16) 14 Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. (Jb 15:35; Is 33:11; Is 59:4; Jc 1:15) 15 He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. (Ps 9:15; Ps 57:6; Ps 119:85; Pr 26:27; Pr 28:10; Ec 10:8) 16 His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends. (Jg 9:24; 1R 2:32; Est 7:10; Est 9:25; Ps 94:23; Ps 141:10; Pr 5:22) 17 I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High. (Ps 9:2)
