1 Pourquoi, ô Eternel, ╵es-tu si loin? Pourquoi te caches-tu ╵aux jours de la détresse?[1] (Ps 9:1) 2 Le méchant, dans son arrogance, ╵poursuit les pauvres, il les prend dans ses traquenards. 3 Le méchant tire vanité ╵de son avidité. Le profiteur maudit ╵et nargue l’Eternel. 4 Le méchant, dans son arrogance, ╵déclare: « Dieu n’existe pas. » Il ne va pas chercher plus loin[2], ╵c’est là le fond de sa pensée. 5 Toujours ses procédés ╵lui réussissent. Tes jugements sont bien trop hauts ╵pour retenir son attention, et il se débarrasse ╵de tous ses adversaires. 6 Il se dit: « Je ne risque rien, et je suis pour toujours ╵à l’abri du malheur. » 7 Sa bouche ne fait que maudire[3], ╵ses mots sont trompeurs et violents, sous sa langue acérée fleurissent ╵des propos méchants et blessants. (Mt 12:34; Rm 3:14) 8 Il est posté en embuscade ╵à proximité des hameaux, et, dans un endroit bien caché, ╵il assassine l’innocent. Ses yeux épient les faibles. 9 Il se tapit dans sa cachette ╵comme un lion dans sa tanière; oui, il se met en embuscade ╵pour attraper le pauvre; il attrape le pauvre ╵en l’attirant dans son filet. 10 Alors le faible se courbe et chancelle, puis tombe vaincu par sa force. 11 Il se dit: « Dieu oubliera vite, il ne regarde pas par là; ╵d’ailleurs, il ne voit jamais rien! » 12 Lève-toi, Eternel! ╵Dieu, interviens! Et n’oublie pas les malheureux! 13 Pourquoi donc le méchant ╵se moque-t-il de toi, et pourquoi se dit-il: ╵« Dieu ne demande pas de comptes »? 14 Pourtant, toi, tu vois bien ╵la peine et la souffrance, tu veilles pour tout prendre en mains! Le faible s’abandonne à toi, tu viens en aide à l’orphelin. 15 Abats la force du méchant, ce criminel! Et fais-le rendre compte ╵du mal qu’il a commis ╵pour qu’il n’en reste plus de trace. 16 L’Eternel est Roi à jamais, et les peuples païens ╵disparaîtront de sur sa terre. 17 Eternel, tu entends ╵les attentes des affligés. Tu leur redonnes du courage ╵et tu prêtes l’oreille 18 pour faire droit à l’orphelin, ╵ainsi qu’à l’opprimé, et pour que l’homme, ╵cette créature terrestre ╵cesse de semer la terreur.

1 Why, O Lord, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? (Ps 9:9; Ps 13:1; Ps 22:1; Ps 22:11; Ps 22:19; Ps 35:22; Ps 38:21) 2 In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised. (Ps 7:15) 3 For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses[1] and renounces the Lord. (Jb 1:5; Jb 1:11; Ps 10:13; Ps 94:4; Is 3:9) 4 In the pride of his face[2] the wicked does not seek him;[3] all his thoughts are, “There is no God.” (Ps 10:3; Ps 14:1; Ps 53:1) 5 His ways prosper at all times; your judgments are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them. (Ps 12:5; Is 26:11) 6 He says in his heart, “I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity.” (Ps 10:11; Ps 10:13; Ap 18:7) 7 His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity. (Jb 20:12; Ps 5:5; Ps 6:8; Ps 7:14; Ps 36:3; Ps 55:11; Ps 72:14; Ps 140:3; Ct 4:11; Rm 3:14) 8 He sits in ambush in the villages; in hiding places he murders the innocent. His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless; (Ps 17:12; Ps 64:4; Ha 3:14) 9 he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket; he lurks that he may seize the poor; he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net. (Jb 38:40; Ps 9:15; Ps 17:12; Ps 59:3; Mi 7:2) 10 The helpless are crushed, sink down, and fall by his might. 11 He says in his heart, “God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.” (Jb 22:13; Ps 73:11; Ps 94:7; Ez 8:12; Ez 9:9; So 1:12) 12 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted. (Ps 3:7; Ps 9:12; Ps 9:18; Mi 5:9) 13 Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”? (Ps 9:12; Ps 10:3) 14 But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless. (Ps 33:13; Ps 68:5; Ps 146:9; Os 14:3; 2Tm 1:12; 1P 4:19) 15 Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none. (Ps 37:17; Ps 37:36; Is 41:12) 16 The Lord is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land. (Ex 15:18; Dt 8:20; Ps 29:10; Jr 10:10; La 5:19; Da 4:34; Da 6:26; 1Tm 1:17; Ap 11:15) 17 O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear (1Ch 29:18) 18 to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.
