1Oracle sur l’Egypte: L’Eternel monte ╵un nuage rapide, il arrive en Egypte. Voici qu’à son approche, ╵les dieux d’Egypte ╵se mettent à trembler et le peuple égyptien ╵perd tout courage.2Je dresserai les Egyptiens ╵les uns contre les autres[1], déclare l’Eternel. Ils se feront la guerre, ╵qui, contre son parent, ╵qui, contre son ami, cité contre cité, ╵et province contre province. (Is 18:1)3Les Egyptiens perdront l’esprit et j’anéantirai ╵leur politique. Ils iront consulter ╵leurs sorciers, leurs idoles, ceux qui évoquent les morts ╵et les devins.4Je livrerai l’Egypte ╵aux mains d’un maître dur, un roi puissant ╵dominera sur eux[2]. L’Eternel le déclare, ╵le Seigneur des armées célestes.5L’eau de la mer s’asséchera, le fleuve tarira ╵et son lit sera sec.6L’eau croupira ╵à l’intérieur des bras du fleuve et les canaux d’Egypte ╵baisseront et s’assécheront; les joncs et les roseaux s’étioleront;7les prés, le long du fleuve ╵et à son embouchure, tous les champs cultivés ╵irrigués par le Nil, ╵se dessécheront et seront emportés: ╵il n’en restera rien.8Les pêcheurs gémiront, tous ceux qui jettent l’hameçon ╵dans le Nil se lamenteront. Ceux qui étendent leurs filets sur la face des eaux ╵seront bien misérables.9Ceux qui travaillent le fin lin ╵seront couverts de honte, ceux qui le peignent et qui le tissent ╵deviendront blancs de peur.10Tous les grands du pays ╵seront tout abattus et tous les ouvriers ╵seront découragés.11Les princes de Tsoân[3] ╵ont perdu la raison, les sages qui conseillent ╵le pharaon d’Egypte forment un conseil d’insensés. Comment osez-vous dire ╵au pharaon: « Nous, nous sommes des disciples des sages, ╵des disciples des anciens rois »? (Nb 13:22)12Où sont-ils maintenant, ╵tes sages conseillers? Qu’ils te déclarent donc ╵et te fassent savoir ce que le Seigneur des armées célestes a décrété contre l’Egypte.13Les princes de Tsoân ╵sont dépourvus de sens et les chefs de Memphis[4] ╵sont tous dans l’illusion. Eux qui étaient chargés ╵de diriger l’Egypte, ╵ils la font s’égarer.14L’Eternel a versé ╵parmi les Egyptiens ╵un esprit de vertige. Eux, ils l’égarent ╵en tout ce qu’elle fait comme un ivrogne qui s’égare ╵dans ce qu’il a vomi.15Et nul ne pourra plus ╵rien faire pour l’Egypte, pas plus la tête que la queue, la palme ou le roseau.
Conversion en Egypte
16En ce jour-là, les Egyptiens seront comme de faibles femmes: ils trembleront et s’épouvanteront quand l’Eternel, le Seigneur des armées célestes, agitera la main contre eux.17Le pays de Juda sera cause d’effroi pour l’Egypte, qui tremblera à la simple mention de son nom devant elle, à cause du projet que l’Eternel, le Seigneur des armées célestes, a formé contre elle.
L’Eternel frappe pour guérir
18En ce jour-là, il y aura dans le pays d’Egypte cinq villes où l’on parlera la langue des Hébreux et où l’on prêtera serment par l’Eternel, le Seigneur des armées célestes. On appellera l’une d’elles: la Ville du Soleil[5].19En ce jour-là, l’Eternel aura un autel au milieu de l’Egypte, et une stèle sera dressée en l’honneur du Seigneur sur sa frontière.20Ils serviront de signe et de témoins pour l’Eternel, le Seigneur des armées célestes, dans le pays d’Egypte. Et quand les Egyptiens crieront à l’Eternel à cause de leurs oppresseurs, il leur enverra un libérateur qui prendra leur parti et les délivrera.21L’Eternel se fera connaître au pays de l’Egypte et, ce jour-là, les Egyptiens connaîtront l’Eternel. Ils lui rendront un culte avec des sacrifices et des offrandes, et ils feront des vœux à l’Eternel et s’en acquitteront.22L’Eternel frappera les Egyptiens, il frappera, mais il les guérira, et ils se tourneront vers l’Eternel qui les exaucera et qui les guérira.23En ce jour-là, il y aura une route allant d’Egypte en Assyrie. Les Assyriens se rendront en Egypte, les Egyptiens en Assyrie; des Egyptiens et des Assyriens rendront leur culte ensemble.24En ce jour-là, Israël sera le troisième, avec l’Egypte et l’Assyrie, et, pour la terre entière, ce sera une bénédiction.25Et l’Eternel, le Seigneur des armées célestes, les bénira, disant: Bénie soit l’Egypte, mon peuple, bénie soit l’Assyrie, mon œuvre, et Israël, qui m’appartient.

1An oracle concerning Egypt. Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence, and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them. (Ex 12:12; Jos 2:11; 1S 5:3; Ps 18:10; Ps 104:3; Is 13:1; Is 13:7; Jr 43:12; Jr 46:13; Jr 50:2; Ez 29:1; Ez 31:18; Jl 3:19; Mt 26:64; Ap 1:7)2And I will stir up Egyptians against Egyptians, and they will fight, each against another and each against his neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom; (Jg 7:22)3and the spirit of the Egyptians within them will be emptied out, and I will confound[1] their counsel; and they will inquire of the idols and the sorcerers, and the mediums and the necromancers; (Is 8:19; Is 19:11)4and I will give over the Egyptians into the hand of a hard master, and a fierce king will rule over them, declares the Lord God of hosts. Egypt, Assyria, Israel Blessed
16In that day the Egyptians will be like women, and tremble with fear before the hand that the Lord of hosts shakes over them. (Is 10:32; Jr 50:37; Jr 51:30; Na 3:13)17And the land of Judah will become a terror to the Egyptians. Everyone to whom it is mentioned will fear because of the purpose that the Lord of hosts has purposed against them.18In that day there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the Lord of hosts. One of these will be called the City of Destruction.[2] (2R 7:13; Is 19:21; Is 30:17; So 3:9)19In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border. When they cry to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and deliver them. (Is 19:19; Ab 1:21)21And the Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day and worship with sacrifice and offering, and they will make vows to the Lord and perform them. (Jr 46:25)23In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt into Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians.
