4 So begann Johannes in der Wüste, taufte und verkündigte eine Taufe der Buße^[4] zur Vergebung der Sünden. (Mt 3,11; Apg 3,19) 5 Und es ging zu ihm hinaus das ganze Land Judäa und die Bewohner von Jerusalem, und es wurden von ihm alle im Jordan getauft, die ihre Sünden bekannten. 7 Und er verkündigte und sprach: Es kommt einer nach mir, der stärker ist als ich, und ich bin nicht würdig, ihm gebückt seinen Schuhriemen zu lösen. (Joh 3,31) 8 Ich habe euch mit Wasser getauft; er aber wird euch mit Heiligem Geist taufen. (Joe 3,1; Joh 1,33; 1Kor 12,13)

Die Taufe Jesu Christi und die Versuchung in der Wüste

9 Und es geschah in jenen Tagen, dass Jesus von Nazareth in Galiläa kam und sich von Johannes im Jordan taufen ließ. (Mt 2,23; Joh 7,41; Joh 7,52) 10 Und sogleich, als er aus dem Wasser stieg, sah er den Himmel zerrissen und den Geist wie eine Taube auf ihn herabsteigen. Der Beginn des Wirkens Jesu in Galiläa

14 Nachdem aber Johannes gefangen genommen worden war, kam Jesus nach Galiläa und verkündigte das Evangelium vom Reich Gottes (Jes 61,1; Mt 4,17; Lk 8,1) 15 und sprach: Die Zeit ist erfüllt, und das Reich Gottes ist nahe. Tut Buße^[5] und glaubt an das Evangelium! (Gal 4,4; Eph 1,10)

Die Berufung der ersten Jünger

16 Als er aber am See von Galiläa^[6] entlangging, sah er Simon und dessen Bruder Andreas; die warfen das Netz aus im See, denn sie waren Fischer. 17 Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Folgt mir nach, und ich will euch zu Menschenfischern machen! (Mk 2,14; Mk 8,34; Lk 5,10) 18 Da verließen sie sogleich ihre Netze und folgten ihm nach. (Mk 10,28; Phil 3,8) 19 Und als er von dort ein wenig weiterging, sah er Jakobus, den Sohn des Zebedäus, und seinen Bruder Johannes, die auch im Schiff waren und die Netze flickten. Jesus treibt in Kapernaum einen unreinen Geist aus

21 Und sie begaben sich nach Kapernaum; und er ging am Sabbat sogleich in die Synagoge und lehrte. (Spr 15,2; Spr 15,7; Dan 12,3; Mt 4,13; Lk 4,23)

22 Und sie erstaunten über seine Lehre; denn er lehrte sie wie einer, der Vollmacht hat, und nicht wie die Schriftgelehrten. (Jer 23,39; Mt 7,29) 23 Und es war in ihrer Synagoge ein Mensch mit einem unreinen Geist, der schrie (Mt 8,16) 24 und sprach: Lass ab! Was haben wir mit dir zu tun, Jesus, du Nazarener? 25 Aber Jesus befahl ihm und sprach: Verstumme und fahre aus von ihm! 26 Da zerrte ihn der unreine Geist hin und her, schrie mit lauter Stimme und fuhr von ihm aus. (Lk 9,39) 27 Und sie erstaunten alle, sodass sie sich untereinander fragten und sprachen: Was ist das? Was für eine neue Lehre ist dies? Mit Vollmacht gebietet er auch den unreinen Geistern, und sie gehorchen ihm! (Mt 9,33) 28 Und das Gerücht von ihm verbreitete sich sogleich in das ganze umliegende Gebiet von Galiläa.

Die Heilung der Schwiegermutter des Petrus und anderer Kranker

29 Und sogleich verließen sie die Synagoge und gingen mit Jakobus und Johannes in das Haus des Simon und Andreas. 30 Simons Schwiegermutter aber lag krank am Fieber danieder, und sogleich sagten sie ihm von ihr. (Jak 5,14) 31 Und er trat hinzu, ergriff ihre Hand und richtete sie auf; und das Fieber verließ sie sogleich, und sie diente ihnen. (Lk 8,2; Joh 12,26) 32 Als es aber Abend geworden und die Sonne untergegangen war, brachten sie alle Kranken und Besessenen zu ihm. (Mt 4,24) 33 Und die ganze Stadt war vor der Tür versammelt. (Mk 1,5; Apg 13,44) 34 Und er heilte viele, die an mancherlei Krankheiten litten, und trieb viele Dämonen aus und ließ die Dämonen nicht reden, denn sie kannten ihn. 35 Und am Morgen, als es noch sehr dunkel war, stand er auf, ging hinaus an einen einsamen Ort und betete dort. (Ps 5,4; Mk 6,46; Lk 9,18; Lk 9,28)

36 Und es folgten ihm Simon und die, welche bei ihm waren; 37 und als sie ihn gefunden hatten, sprachen sie zu ihm: Jedermann sucht dich! 38 Und er spricht zu ihnen: Lasst uns in die umliegenden Orte gehen, damit ich auch dort verkündige; denn dazu bin ich gekommen! (Jes 61,1; Mk 10,45; Joh 18,37) 39 Und er verkündigte in ihren Synagogen in ganz Galiläa und trieb die Dämonen aus. (Mk 1,14; Mk 1,21)

Die Heilung eines Aussätzigen

40 Und es kam ein Aussätziger zu ihm, bat ihn, fiel vor ihm auf die Knie und sprach zu ihm: Wenn du willst, kannst du mich reinigen! 41 Da erbarmte sich Jesus über ihn, streckte die Hand aus, rührte ihn an und sprach zu ihm: Ich will; sei gereinigt! (3Mo 13,44; Lk 7,13; 1Tim 2,4) 42 Und während er redete, wich der Aussatz sogleich von ihm, und er wurde rein. (Ps 33,9; Joh 15,3; Apg 15,9) 43 Und er ermahnte ihn ernstlich und schickte ihn sogleich fort 44 und sprach zu ihm: Hab acht, sage niemand etwas; sondern geh hin, zeige dich dem Priester und opfere für deine Reinigung, was Mose befohlen hat, ihnen zum Zeugnis! 45 Er aber ging und fing an, es vielfach zu verkündigen, und breitete die Sache überall aus, sodass Jesus nicht mehr öffentlich in eine Stadt hineingehen konnte, sondern er war draußen an einsamen Orten; und sie kamen von allen Seiten zu ihm. (Ps 66,16; Pred 3,7; Mk 5,20; Lk 19,40; Hebr 13,15)

John the Baptist prepares the way

1 This is the beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. 2 Long ago Isaiah the prophet wrote, ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you. He will prepare your way.’ (Mal 3,1) 3 ‘A messenger is calling out in the desert, “Prepare the way for the Lord. Make straight paths for him.” ’ (Jes 40,3) 4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the desert. He preached that people should be baptised and turn away from their sins. Then God would forgive them. 5 All the people from the countryside of Judea went out to him. All the people from Jerusalem went too. When they admitted they had sinned, John baptised them in the River Jordan. 6 John wore clothes made out of camel’s hair. He had a leather belt around his waist. And he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 Here is what John was preaching. ‘After me, there is someone coming who is more powerful than I am. I’m not good enough to bend down and untie his sandals. 8 I baptise you with water. But he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’

Jesus is baptised and tempted

9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee. John baptised Jesus in the River Jordan. 10 Jesus was coming up out of the water. Just then he saw heaven being torn open. Jesus saw the Holy Spirit coming down on him like a dove. 11 A voice spoke to him from heaven. It said, ‘You are my Son, and I love you. I am very pleased with you.’ 12 At once the Holy Spirit sent Jesus out into the desert. 13 He was in the desert 40 days. There Satan tempted him. The wild animals didn’t harm Jesus. Angels took care of him.

Jesus preaches the good news

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee. He preached the good news of God. 15 ‘The time has come,’ he said. ‘The kingdom of God has come near. Turn away from your sins and believe the good news!’

Jesus chooses his first disciples

16 One day Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. There he saw Simon and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the lake. They were fishermen. 17 ‘Come and follow me,’ Jesus said. ‘I will send you out to fish for people.’ 18 At once they left their nets and followed him. 19 Then Jesus walked a little further. As he did, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat preparing their nets. 20 Right away he called out to them. They left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men. Then they followed Jesus.

Jesus drives out an evil spirit

21 Jesus and those with him went to Capernaum. When the Sabbath day came, he went into the synagogue. There he began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching. That’s because he taught them like one who had authority. He did not talk like the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue cried out. He was controlled by an evil spirit. He said, 24 ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!’ 25 ‘Be quiet!’ said Jesus firmly. ‘Come out of him!’ 26 The evil spirit shook the man wildly. Then it came out of him with a scream. 27 All the people were amazed. So they asked each other, ‘What is this? A new teaching! And with so much authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits, and they obey him.’ 28 News about Jesus spread quickly all over Galilee.

Jesus heals many people

29 Jesus and those with him left the synagogue. Right away they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was lying in bed with a fever. They told Jesus about her right away. 31 So he went to her. He took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her. Then she began to serve them. 32 That evening after sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who were ill. They also brought all who were controlled by demons. 33 All the people in town gathered at the door. 34 Jesus healed many of them. They had all kinds of diseases. He also drove out many demons. But he would not let the demons speak, because they knew who he was.

Jesus prays in a quiet place

35 It was very early in the morning and still dark. Jesus got up and left the house. He went to a place where he could be alone. There he prayed. 36 Simon and his friends went to look for Jesus. 37 When they found him, they called out, ‘Everyone is looking for you!’ 38 Jesus replied, ‘Let’s go somewhere else. I want to go to the nearby towns. I must preach there also. That is why I have come.’ 39 So he travelled all around Galilee. He preached in their synagogues. He also drove out demons.

Jesus heals a man who had a skin disease

40 A man who had a skin disease came to Jesus. On his knees he begged Jesus. He said, ‘If you are willing to make me “clean”, you can do it.’ 41 Jesus became angry. He reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing to do it,’ Jesus said. ‘Be “clean”!’ 42 Right away the disease left the man, and he was ‘clean’. 43 Jesus sent him away at once. He gave the man a strong warning. 44 ‘Don’t tell this to anyone,’ he said. ‘Go and show yourself to the priest. Offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded. It will be a witness to the priest and the people that you are “clean”. ’ 45 But the man went out and started talking right away. He spread the news to everyone. So Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. He stayed outside in lonely places. But people still came to him from everywhere.
