Die 48 Städte der Leviten

1 Da traten die Familienhäupter unter den Leviten zu Eleasar, dem Priester, und zu Josua, dem Sohn Nuns, und zu den Familienhäuptern der Stämme der Söhne Israels, (Jos 14,1; Jos 14,6; Jos 17,4) 2 und sie redeten mit ihnen in Silo, im Land Kanaan, und sprachen: Der HERR hat durch Mose geboten, dass man uns Städte zum Wohnen geben soll, und die zugehörigen Weideplätze für unser Vieh! (4Mo 35,2; Jos 18,1) 3 Da gaben die Söhne Israels den Leviten von ihrem Erbteil diese Städte samt ihren Weideplätzen, nach dem Befehl des HERRN. (1Chr 6,39) 4 Das Los aber fiel für das Geschlecht der Kahatiter; und die Söhne Aarons, des Priesters, unter den Leviten erhielten durch das Los 13 Städte vom Stamm Juda, vom Stamm Simeon und vom Stamm Benjamin. 5 Den übrigen Söhnen Kahats aber wurden durch das Los 10 Städte zuteil, von den Geschlechtern des Stammes Ephraim, vom Stamm Dan und vom halben Stamm Manasse. (4Mo 3,27; Jos 21,20; 1Chr 6,51) 6 Aber den Söhnen Gersons wurden durch das Los 13 Städte [gegeben] von den Geschlechtern des Stammes Issaschar, vom Stamm Asser und vom Stamm Naphtali und vom halben Stamm Manasse in Baschan. (Jos 21,27; 1Chr 6,56) 7 Den Söhnen Meraris nach ihren Geschlechtern wurden 12 Städte vom Stamm Ruben, vom Stamm Gad und vom Stamm Sebulon zuteil. (Jos 21,34; 1Chr 6,62) 8 So gaben die Söhne Israels den Leviten durch das Los diese Städte samt ihren Weideplätzen, so wie der HERR es durch Mose geboten hatte. (Jos 21,41; Spr 18,18) 9 Vom Stamm der Söhne Judas und vom Stamm der Söhne Simeons traten sie folgende Städte ab, die sie mit Namen benannten. (Jos 21,13; 1Chr 6,64) 10 Und sie wurden den Söhnen Aarons, vom Geschlecht der Kahatiter, aus den Söhnen Levis zuteil; denn das erste Los fiel auf sie. (Jos 21,4) 11 So gaben sie ihnen nun die Stadt Arbas, des Vaters Enaks, das ist Hebron, im Bergland Juda, und ihre Weideplätze um sie her. (Jos 14,13; Jos 20,7) 12 Aber das Ackerland der Stadt und ihre Dörfer gaben sie Kaleb, dem Sohn des Jephunne, als sein Eigentum. (Jos 21,11) 13 So gaben sie den Söhnen des Priesters Aaron Hebron, die Zufluchtsstadt für die Totschläger, und seine Weideplätze, Libna und seine Weideplätze, (Jos 10,29; Jos 20,1; Jos 20,7) 14 Jattir und seine Weideplätze, Estemoa und seine Weideplätze, (Jos 15,48; Jos 15,50; 1Sam 30,28) 15 Holon und seine Weideplätze, Debir und seine Weideplätze, (Jos 10,38; Jos 15,50; 1Chr 6,59) 16 Ain und seine Weideplätze, Jutta und seine Weideplätze, Beth-Schemesch und seine Weideplätze, das sind 9 Städte von diesen zwei Stämmen. 17 Von dem Stamm Benjamin aber gaben sie Gibeon und seine Weideplätze, Geba und seine Weideplätze, (Jos 18,24; Jos 21,4; 1Sam 14,5; 2Chr 1,3; Jes 10,29)

18 Anatot und seine Weideplätze und Almon und seine Weideplätze; das sind 4 Städte. (1Kön 2,26; Jer 1,1) 19 Insgesamt waren es 13 Städte samt ihren Weideplätzen für die Söhne Aarons, die Priester. (Jos 21,3) 20 Den Geschlechtern aber der Söhne Kahats, den Leviten, die von den Söhnen Kahats noch übrig waren, wurden die Städte ihres Loses von dem Stamm Ephraim zuteil. (Jos 21,5) 21 Und sie gaben ihnen Sichem, die Zufluchtsstadt für die Totschläger, und seine Weideplätze im Bergland Ephraim, ferner Geser und seine Weideplätze, (Jos 10,33; Jos 20,7) 22 Kibzaim und seine Weideplätze, Beth-Horon und seine Weideplätze; das sind 4 Städte. (Jos 10,1) 23 Und von dem Stamm Dan: Elteke und seine Weideplätze, Gibbeton und seine Weideplätze; (Jos 19,44; Jos 21,5; 1Kön 15,27) 24 Ajalon und seine Weideplätze, Gat-Rimmon und seine Weideplätze; das sind 4 Städte. (Jos 10,12; Jos 19,45; 1Chr 6,54) 25 Von dem halben Stamm Manasse aber: Taanach und seine Weideplätze, Gat-Rimmon und seine Weideplätze; das sind 2 Städte. 26 Insgesamt waren es 10 Städte samt ihren Weideplätzen für die übrigen Söhne des Geschlechtes Kahats. (Jos 21,5) 27 Den Söhnen Gersons aber, aus den Geschlechtern der Leviten, wurden von dem halben Stamm Manasse Golan in Baschan gegeben, die Zufluchtsstadt für die Totschläger, und seine Weideplätze, dazu Beestera und seine Weideplätze; das sind 2 Städte. (5Mo 4,43; Jos 20,8; Jos 21,6; 1Chr 6,56)

(Jos 19,25; Ri 1,31; 1Chr 6,60) 32 Vom Stamm Naphtali aber Kedesch in Galiläa, die Zufluchtsstadt für die Totschläger, und seine Weideplätze, Hammot-Dor und seine Weideplätze, Kartan und seine Weideplätze; das sind 3 Städte. (Jos 19,35; Jos 20,7; Jos 21,6; Ri 4,6; 1Chr 6,61)

33 Insgesamt waren es 13 Städte samt ihren Weideplätzen für die Geschlechter der Gersoniter. (Jos 21,6) 34 Den Geschlechtern aber der Söhne Meraris, den übrigen Leviten, wurden vom Stamm Sebulon gegeben: Jokneam und seine Weideplätze, Karta und seine Weideplätze, (Jos 19,11; Jos 19,15; Jos 21,7) 35 Dimna und seine Weideplätze, Nahalal und seine Weideplätze; das sind 4 Städte; (Jos 19,15) 36 und vom Stamm Ruben: Bezer und seine Weideplätze, Jahza und seine Weideplätze, (4Mo 21,23; Jos 13,18; Jos 20,8; Jos 21,7; 1Chr 6,63)

37 Kedemot und seine Weideplätze, Mephaat und seine Weideplätze; das sind 4 Städte; (Jos 13,18) 38 vom Stamm Gad aber Ramot in Gilead, die Freistadt für die Totschläger, und seine Weideplätze, Mahanajim und seine Weideplätze, (Jos 13,26; Jos 13,30; Jos 20,8; Jos 21,7)

39 Hesbon und seine Weideplätze; Jaeser und seine Weideplätze; im ganzen 4 Städte. (4Mo 21,25; 4Mo 32,3; Jos 13,26) 40 Für die Söhne Meraris unter ihren Geschlechtern, die noch übrig waren von den Geschlechtern der Leviten, waren es 12 Städte, die ihnen durchs Los [zufielen]. (Jos 21,7) 41 So betrug die Gesamtzahl der Städte der Leviten unter dem Eigentum der Söhne Israels 48, samt ihren Weideplätzen. (4Mo 35,7) 42 Es war aber mit diesen Städten so, dass jede ihre Weideplätze um sich her hatte. So war es bei allen diesen Städten.

Gottes Verheißungen in allem erfüllt

43 So gab der HERR Israel das ganze Land, von dem er geschworen hatte, es ihren Vätern zu geben, und sie nahmen es in Besitz und wohnten darin. (1Mo 12,7; 1Mo 28,4; 1Mo 28,13; 5Mo 11,31; Jos 1,2)

44 Und der HERR verschaffte ihnen Ruhe ringsum, ganz so, wie er ihren Vätern geschworen hatte; und keiner ihrer Feinde konnte vor ihnen bestehen, sondern der HERR gab alle ihre Feinde in ihre Hand. (5Mo 7,24; Jos 1,6; Jos 11,23) 45 Es fehlte nichts an all dem Guten, das der HERR dem Haus Israel verheißen hatte; alles war eingetroffen. (4Mo 23,19; Jos 23,14; 1Kön 8,56; Ps 33,9; Jes 55,11)

Towns are given to the Levites

1 The leaders of the Levite family groups approached Eleazar the priest and Joshua, the son of Nun. They also approached the leaders of the family groups of Israel’s other tribes. 2 They went to all of them at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, ‘Give us towns to live in. Also give us grasslands for our livestock. That’s what the LORD commanded through Moses.’ 3 So the Israelites gave the Levites towns and grasslands out of their own shares of land. They did what the LORD had commanded. Here are the towns the Levites were given. 4 The first lot drawn out was for the people of Kohath, according to their family groups. Some of the Levites came from the family line of Aaron the priest. They were given 13 towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin. 5 The rest of Kohath’s family groups were given ten towns. Those towns were from the family groups of the tribes of Ephraim and Dan and half of the tribe of Manasseh. 6 The family groups of Gershon were given 13 towns. Those towns were from the family groups of the tribes of Issachar, Asher and Naphtali and half of the tribe of Manasseh. That part of Manasseh was in the land of Bashan. 7 The family groups of Merari received 12 towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun. Each family group received its share. 8 So the Israelites gave those towns and their grasslands to the Levites. They did what the LORD had commanded through Moses. 9 Some towns were given from the territories of the tribes of Judah and Simeon. 10 The Israelites gave them to the members of the family line of Aaron. The towns were given to the family groups of Kohath. They were Levites. The first lot drawn out was for them. Here are the towns the family groups of Kohath were given. 11 The Israelites gave them Kiriath Arba and the grasslands around it. Kiriath Arba is also called Hebron. It’s in the hill country of Judah. Anak came from the family line of Arba. 12 But Israel had already given away the fields and villages around the city. They had given them to Caleb as his share. Caleb was the son of Jephunneh. 13 So they gave Hebron to the members of the family line of Aaron the priest. Hebron was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They also gave them Libnah, 14 Jattir, Eshtemoa, 15 Holon, Debir, 16 Ain, Juttah and Beth Shemesh. They gave those towns and their grasslands to the family groups of Kohath. The total number of towns from the tribes of Judah and Simeon came to nine. 17 The Israelites gave some towns from the tribe of Benjamin to the family groups of Kohath. The towns were Gibeon, Geba, 18 Anathoth and Almon. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four. 19 So the total number of towns and their grasslands given to the priests in Aaron’s family line came to 13. 20 There were other family groups of Kohath among the Levites. They were given towns from the tribe of Ephraim. Here are the towns those other family groups of Kohath were given. 21 In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem. It was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They were also given Gezer, 22 Kibzaim and Beth Horon. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four. 23 From the tribe of Dan they received Eltekeh, Gibbethon, 24 Aijalon and Gath Rimmon. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four. 25 From half of the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach and Gath Rimmon. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to two. 26 So all these ten towns and their grasslands were given to the other family groups of Kohath. 27 Here are the towns given to the family groups of Gershon among the Levites. From half of the tribe of Manasseh they received Golan in the land of Bashan. Golan was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They also received Be Eshterah. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to two. 28 From the tribe of Issachar they received Kishion, Daberath, 29 Jarmuth and En Gannim. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four. 30 From the tribe of Asher they received Mishal, Abdon, 31 Helkath and Rehob. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four. 32 From the tribe of Naphtali they received Kedesh in Galilee. Kedesh was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They also received Hammoth Dor and Kartan. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to three. 33 So the total number of towns and their grasslands given to the family groups of Gershon came to 13. 34 The rest of the Levites were from the family groups of Merari. Here are the towns they were given. From the tribe of Zebulun they received Jokneam, Kartah, 35 Dimnah and Nahalal. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four. 36 From the tribe of Reuben they received Bezer, Jahaz, 37 Kedemoth and Mephaath. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four. 38 From the tribe of Gad they received Ramoth in Gilead. Ramoth was a city where anyone charged with murder could go for safety. They also received Mahanaim, 39 Heshbon and Jazer. The total number of these towns and their grasslands came to four. 40 So the total number of towns given to the family groups of Merari came to 12. That concludes the list of towns the rest of the Levites received. 41 The total number of Levite towns and their grasslands in the territory given to Israel came to 48. 42 Each of those towns had grasslands around it. That was true of all of them. 43 So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had promised to give to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And Israel took it over. Then they made their homes there. 44 The LORD gave them peace and rest on every side. He had promised their people of long ago that he would do that. Not one of Israel’s enemies was able to fight against them and win. The LORD handed all their enemies over to them. 45 The LORD kept all the good promises he had made to the Israelites. Every one of them came true.
