1Dann fiel das Los für die Söhne Josephs: vom Jordan bei Jericho an, von den Wassern von Jericho ostwärts; die Wüste, die sich von Jericho hinaufzieht in das Bergland nach Bethel; (1Mo 28,19; 1Mo 41,50; 1Mo 48,4; Jos 14,4; Jos 18,13; Ri 1,22; 2Kön 2,18)2und [die Grenze] verläuft von Bethel nach Lus und reicht bis an die Grenze der Architer, bis Atarot, (Jos 16,5; 2Sam 15,32)3und zieht sich westwärts herab zu der Grenze der Japhletiter, bis an die Grenze des unteren Beth-Horon und bis nach Geser, und ihr Ende bildet das Meer. Danach wendet sich die Grenze östlich nach Taanat-Silo und läuft daran vorbei, östlich bis Janoach (Jos 17,7)7und kommt herab von Janoach nach Atarot und Naarat und stößt an Jericho und endet am Jordan. (4Mo 33,48; 1Chr 7,28)8Von Tappuach geht die Grenze westlich zum Bach Kana und endet am Meer. Das ist das Erbteil des Stammes der Söhne Ephraims nach ihren Geschlechtern; (Jos 12,17; Jos 17,9; Jos 19,28)9dazu die Städte, welche für die Söhne Ephraims abgesondert sind mitten in dem Erbteil der Söhne Manasses, alle diese Städte samt ihren Dörfern. (Jos 17,9)10Sie vertrieben aber die Kanaaniter nicht, die in Geser wohnten. So blieben die Kanaaniter unter Ephraim wohnen bis zu diesem Tag und wurden fronpflichtig. (Ri 1,29; 1Kön 9,16)

Land is given to Ephraim and Manasseh
1The land given to the two tribes in the family line of Joseph began at the River Jordan. Their border started east of the springs of Jericho. It went up from there through the desert into the hill country of Bethel.2Bethel is also called Luz. From Bethel the border crossed over to Ataroth. That’s where the Arkites live.3Then it went west down to the territory of the Japhletites. It went all the way to the area of Lower Beth Horon. It went on to Gezer. The border came to an end at the Mediterranean Sea.4The tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim were from the family line of Joseph. So they received that land as their share.5Here is the territory given to the tribe of Ephraim, according to its family groups. The border of their share of land started at Ataroth Addar in the east. It went to Upper Beth Horon.6It continued towards the Mediterranean Sea. From Mikmethath on the north, it curved towards the east. It went to Taanath Shiloh. It passed by Taanath Shiloh to Janoah on the east.7Then it went down from Janoah to Ataroth and Naarah. It touched Jericho and came to an end at the River Jordan.8From Tappuah the border went west to the Kanah Valley. It came to an end at the Mediterranean Sea. That was the land given to the tribe of Ephraim. Each family group received its share.9The tribe of Ephraim was also given other towns and villages that were set apart for them. Those towns and villages were in the share of land given to the tribe of Manasseh.10The people of Ephraim didn’t drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer. The Canaanites live among the people of Ephraim to this day. But they are forced to work hard for the people of Ephraim.
