Gottes Verheißung an Isaak. Isaak im Land der Philister

1 Es kam aber eine Hungersnot in das Land, nach der vorherigen Hungersnot, die zu Abrahams Zeiten gewesen war. Und Isaak zog nach Gerar zu Abimelech, dem König der Philister. (1Mo 12,10; 1Mo 20,1; 1Mo 41,54) 2 Da erschien ihm der HERR und sprach: Reise nicht nach Ägypten hinab, sondern bleibe in dem Land, das ich dir nennen werde! (1Mo 12,1; Ps 25,5; Ps 25,12; Hebr 11,9)

4 Und ich will deinen Samen mehren wie die Sterne des Himmels, und ich will deinem Samen das ganze Land geben; und in deinem Samen sollen gesegnet werden alle Völker der Erde, (1Mo 15,5) 5 weil Abraham meiner Stimme gehorsam gewesen ist und meine Rechte, meine Gebote, meine Satzungen und meine Gesetze gehalten hat! (1Mo 22,18; Ps 112,1) 6 So wohnte Isaak in Gerar. (1Mo 26,1) 7 Und als die Leute des Ortes nach seiner Frau fragten, da sprach er: Sie ist meine Schwester. Denn er fürchtete sich zu sagen: Sie ist meine Frau, weil er dachte: Die Leute an diesem Ort könnten mich um Rebekkas willen töten; denn sie war sehr schön. 8 Und es geschah, als er sich längere Zeit dort aufhielt, da schaute Abimelech, der König der Philister, durchs Fenster und bemerkte, wie Isaak mit seiner Frau Rebekka vertraut scherzte. (Pred 9,9) 9 Da rief Abimelech den Isaak und sprach: Siehe, sie ist deine Frau! Wie konntest du sagen: »Sie ist meine Schwester«? Isaak antwortete ihm: Ich dachte, ich müsste vielleicht sterben um ihretwillen! (1Mo 12,19) 10 Abimelech sprach: Warum hast du uns das angetan? Wie leicht hätte jemand vom Volk sich zu deiner Frau legen können; so hättest du eine Schuld auf uns gebracht! (1Mo 12,18) 11 Da gebot Abimelech dem ganzen Volk und sprach: Wer diesen Mann oder seine Frau antastet, der soll gewisslich sterben! (Ps 105,15; Spr 6,29)

Widerstand der Philister gegen Isaak

12 Und Isaak säte in dem Land und erntete im selben Jahr hundertfältig; denn der HERR segnete ihn. (1Mo 25,11; 1Mo 26,3; Ps 67,7; Spr 10,22)

13 Und der Mann wurde reich und immer reicher, bis er überaus reich war; (Ps 112,3) 14 und er hatte Schaf- und Rinderherden und eine große Dienerschaft. Darum beneideten ihn die Philister. (1Sam 18,8; Spr 27,4; Pred 4,4) 15 Alle Brunnen aber, die die Knechte seines Vaters zu Abrahams, seines Vaters Zeiten gegraben hatten, hatten die Philister verstopft und mit loser Erde gefüllt. (1Mo 21,30) 16 Und Abimelech sprach zu Isaak: Geh fort von uns; denn du bist uns viel zu mächtig geworden! (2Mo 1,9) 17 Da zog Isaak fort und lagerte sich im Tal Gerar und wohnte dort. (1Mo 26,1) 18 Und Isaak ließ die Wasserbrunnen aufgraben, die sie zu Zeiten seines Vaters Abraham gegraben hatten und die die Philister nach dem Tod Abrahams verstopft hatten, und er nannte sie mit denselben Namen, mit denen sein Vater sie benannt hatte. (1Mo 21,30) 19 Auch gruben Isaaks Knechte im Tal und fanden dort einen Brunnen lebendigen Wassers^[1]. (Hl 4,15; Joh 4,10; Joh 7,38) 20 Aber die Hirten von Gerar stritten sich mit den Hirten Isaaks und sprachen: Das Wasser gehört uns! Da nannte er den Brunnen Esek, weil sie sich dort mit ihm gestritten hatten. (1Mo 21,25; Ps 120,7) 21 Da gruben sie einen weiteren Brunnen, um den stritten sie auch; darum nannte er ihn Sithna. (1Mo 13,7) 22 Da brach er von dort auf und grub einen weiteren Brunnen; um den stritten sie sich nicht, darum nannte er ihn Rechobot und sprach: Nun hat uns der HERR einen weiten Raum gemacht, damit wir fruchtbar sein können im Land! (Ps 119,32; Ps 119,45) 23 Von dort zog er hinauf nach Beerscheba. (1Mo 26,33) 24 Und der HERR erschien ihm in jener Nacht und sprach: Ich bin der Gott deines Vaters Abraham. Fürchte dich nicht, denn ich bin mit dir, und ich will dich segnen und deinen Samen mehren um Abrahams, meines Knechtes, willen! 25 Da baute er dort einen Altar und rief den Namen des HERRN an; und er schlug dort sein Zelt auf; und Isaaks Knechte gruben dort einen Brunnen. (1Mo 12,7; Ps 116,13; Ps 116,17)

Isaaks Bund mit Abimelech

26 Und Abimelech kam zu ihm von Gerar, mit Ahussat, seinem Freund, und Pichol, seinem Heerführer. (1Mo 21,22) 27 Aber Isaak sprach zu ihnen: Warum kommt ihr zu mir, da ihr mich doch hasst und mich von euch weggetrieben habt? (1Mo 26,16; Ri 11,7) 28 Sie sprachen: Wir haben deutlich gesehen, dass der HERR mit dir ist, darum haben wir uns gesagt: Es soll ein Eid zwischen uns sein, zwischen uns und dir, und wir wollen einen Bund mit dir machen, (1Mo 21,27; 1Mo 26,3; 1Mo 26,24; 1Mo 31,44; 1Mo 39,3; Jos 6,27; 1Sam 18,14; Spr 16,7; Sach 8,23)

29 dass du uns keinen Schaden zufügst, wie wir auch dich nicht angetastet haben und dir nur Gutes taten und dich im Frieden haben ziehen lassen. Du bist nun einmal der Gesegnete des HERRN! (1Mo 21,23; 1Mo 24,31; Jes 61,9; Röm 12,17)

30 Da bereitete er ihnen ein Mahl, und sie aßen und tranken. (1Mo 31,54) 31 Und am Morgen früh standen sie auf und schworen einander den Eid. Da ließ Isaak sie gehen, und sie zogen in Frieden von ihm weg. (Hebr 6,16) 32 Und es geschah am selben Tag, da kamen Isaaks Knechte und sagten ihm von dem Brunnen, den sie gegraben hatten, und sprachen zu ihm: Wir haben Wasser gefunden! Esau nimmt zwei hetitische Frauen

34 Als aber Esau 40 Jahre alt war, nahm er Judith zur Frau, die Tochter Beris, des Hetiters, und Basmath, die Tochter Elons, des Hetiters; (1Mo 10,15; 1Mo 36,2) 35 die bereiteten Isaak und Rebekka viel Herzenskummer. (1Mo 27,46; 1Mo 28,1; 1Mo 28,8)

Isaac and Abimelek

1 There was very little food in the land. The same thing had been true earlier, in Abraham’s time. Isaac went to Abimelek in Gerar. Abimelek was the king of the Philistines. 2 The LORD appeared to Isaac and said, ‘Do not go down to Egypt. Live in the land where I tell you to live. 3 Stay there for a while. I will be with you and give you my blessing. I will give all these lands to you and your children after you. And I will keep my word that I gave to your father Abraham. 4 I will make your children after you as many as the stars in the sky. And I will give them all these lands. All nations on earth will be blessed because of your children. 5 I will do all these things because Abraham obeyed me. He did everything I required. He kept my commands, my rules and my instructions.’ 6 So Isaac stayed in Gerar. 7 The men of that place asked him about his wife. He said, ‘She’s my sister.’ He was afraid to say, ‘She’s my wife.’ He thought, ‘The men of this place might kill me because of Rebekah. She’s a beautiful woman.’ 8 Isaac had been there a long time. One day Abimelek, the king of the Philistines, looked down from a window. He saw Isaac hugging and kissing his wife Rebekah. 9 So Abimelek sent for Isaac. He said, ‘She’s really your wife, isn’t she? Why did you say she was your sister?’ Isaac answered him, ‘I thought I might lose my life because of her.’ 10 Then Abimelek said, ‘What have you done to us? What if one of the men slept with your wife? Then you would have made us guilty.’ 11 So Abimelek gave orders to all the people. He said, ‘Anyone who harms this man or his wife will surely be put to death.’ 12 Isaac planted crops in that land. That same year he gathered 100 times more than he planted. That was because the LORD blessed him. 13 Isaac became rich. His wealth continued to grow until he became very rich. 14 He had many flocks and herds and servants. Isaac had so much that the Philistines became jealous of him. 15 So they stopped up all the wells the servants of his father Abraham had dug. They filled them with soil. 16 Then Abimelek said to Isaac, ‘Move away from us. You have become too powerful for us.’ 17 So Isaac moved away from there. He camped in the Valley of Gerar, where he made his home. 18 Isaac opened up the wells again. They had been dug in the time of his father Abraham. The Philistines had stopped them up after Abraham died. Isaac gave the wells the same names his father had given them. 19 Isaac’s servants dug wells in the valley. There they discovered fresh water. 20 But the people of Gerar who took care of their own herds argued with the people who took care of Isaac’s herds. ‘The water is ours!’ the people of Gerar said. So Isaac named the well Esek. That’s because they argued with him. 21 Then Isaac’s servants dug another well. They argued about that one too. So he named it Sitnah. 22 Isaac moved on from there and dug another well. But no one argued about that one. So he named it Rehoboth. He said, ‘Now the LORD has given us room. Now we will be successful in the land.’ 23 From there Isaac went up to Beersheba. 24 That night the LORD appeared to him. He said, ‘I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid. I am with you. I will bless you. I will increase the number of your children because of my servant Abraham.’ 25 Isaac built an altar there and worshipped the LORD. There he set up his tent. And there his servants dug a well. 26 During that time, Abimelek had come to him from Gerar. His personal adviser, Ahuzzath, had come with him. So had his army commander, Phicol. 27 Isaac asked them, ‘Why have you come to me? You were angry with me and sent me away.’ 28 They answered, ‘We saw clearly that the LORD was with you. So we said, “There should be an agreement between us and you.” We want to make a peace treaty with you. 29 Give us your word that you won’t harm us. We didn’t harm you. We always treated you well. We sent you away peacefully. And now the LORD has blessed you.’ 30 Then Isaac had a feast prepared for them. They ate and drank. 31 Early the next morning the men made a treaty with each other. Then Isaac sent the men of Gerar on their way. And they left peacefully. 32 That day Isaac’s servants came to him. They told him about the well they had dug. They said, ‘We’ve found water!’ 33 So he named it Shibah. To this day the name of the town has been Beersheba.

Jacob takes Esau’s blessing

34 When Esau was 40 years old, he got married to Judith. She was the daughter of Beeri the Hittite. Esau also married Basemath. She was the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 Isaac and Rebekah became very upset because Esau had married Hittite women.
