Sarahs Tod und Bestattung in der Höhle Machpelah

1 Und Sarah wurde 127 Jahre alt; das sind die Lebensjahre Sarahs. (1Mo 17,17) 2 Und Sarah starb in Kirjat-Arba, das ist Hebron, im Land Kanaan. Da ging Abraham hin, um zu klagen um Sarah und sie zu beweinen. (1Mo 13,18; 1Mo 50,10; 4Mo 13,22; 4Mo 20,29; Jos 20,7; 2Sam 5,2; 2Sam 5,5; Apg 9,39)

3 Danach stand Abraham auf von seiner Toten und redete mit den Söhnen Hets und sprach: (1Mo 10,15; Hi 2,13; Kla 3,28) 4 Ich bin ein Fremdling und Einwohner ohne Bürgerrecht^[1] bei euch; gebt mir ein Erbbegräbnis^[2] bei euch, dass ich meine Tote von meinem Angesicht entfernt begraben kann! 5 Da antworteten die Hetiter dem Abraham und sprachen zu ihm: (1Mo 23,3) 6 Höre uns, mein Herr, du bist ein Fürst Gottes mitten unter uns! Begrabe deine Tote in dem besten unserer Gräber. 7 Da stand Abraham auf und verneigte sich vor dem Volk des Landes, vor den Hetitern. (1Mo 18,2; Röm 13,7; 1Petr 2,17) 8 Und er redete mit ihnen und sprach: Wenn es euer Wille ist, dass ich meine Tote von meinem Angesicht entfernt begrabe, so hört mich und bittet für mich Ephron, den Sohn Zohars, (1Kön 2,17; Lk 7,3) 9 dass er mir die Höhle Machpelah gebe, die ihm gehört und die am Ende seines Ackers liegt; um den vollen Betrag soll er sie mir zum Erbbegräbnis geben in eurer Mitte! (1Mo 19,1; 1Mo 23,17) 10 Und Ephron saß mitten unter den Hetitern. 11 Nein, mein Herr, sondern höre mir zu: Ich schenke dir den Acker, und die Höhle darin schenke ich dir dazu, und schenke sie dir vor meinem Volk; begrabe deine Tote! (2Sam 24,23) 12 Da verneigte sich Abraham vor dem Volk des Landes, (1Mo 23,7) 13 und er redete mit Ephron vor den Ohren des Volkes des Landes und sprach: Wohlan, wenn du geneigt bist, so höre mich: Nimm von mir das Geld, das ich dir für den Acker gebe, so will ich meine Tote dort begraben. (Rut 4,1; Rut 4,9; 2Sam 24,24) 14 Ephron antwortete Abraham und sprach zu ihm: (1Mo 23,8) 15 Mein Herr, höre mich: Das Feld ist 400 Schekel Silber wert; was ist das schon zwischen mir und dir? Begrabe nur deine Tote! (2Mo 30,13; Hes 45,12) 16 Und Abraham hörte auf Ephron, und Abraham wog für Ephron so viel Geld ab, wie er vor den Ohren der Hetiter gesagt hatte, nämlich 400 Schekel Silber, das im Kauf gangbar und gültig war. (Jer 32,9) 17 So wurde der Acker Ephrons bei Machpelah, der Mamre gegenüberliegt, der Acker samt der Höhle, die darin ist, auch alle Bäume auf dem Acker und innerhalb aller seiner Grenzen, 18 dem Abraham als Eigentum bestätigt vor den Augen der Hetiter und aller, die zum Tor seiner Stadt eingingen. (1Mo 12,7; 1Mo 23,10) 19 Danach begrub Abraham seine Frau Sarah in der Höhle des Ackers Machpelah, Mamre gegenüber, in Hebron, im Land Kanaan. (1Mo 25,9; 1Mo 47,30; 1Mo 49,29; 1Mo 50,13)

Sarah dies

1 Sarah lived to be 127 years old. 2 She died at Kiriath Arba. Kiriath Arba is also called Hebron. It’s in the land of Canaan. Sarah’s death made Abraham very sad. He went to the place where her body was lying. There he wept over her. 3 Then Abraham got up from beside his wife’s body. He said to the Hittites, 4 ‘I’m an outsider. I’m a stranger among you. Sell me some property where I can bury those in my family who die. Then I can bury my wife.’ 5 The Hittites replied to Abraham, 6 ‘Sir, listen to us. You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your wife in the best place we have to bury our dead. None of us will refuse to sell you a place to bury her.’ 7 Then Abraham bowed down in front of the Hittites, the people of the land. 8 He said to them, ‘If you are willing to let me bury my wife, then listen to me. Speak to Zohar’s son Ephron for me. 9 Ask him to sell me the cave of Machpelah. It belongs to him and is at the end of his field. Ask him to sell it to me for the full price. I want it as a place to bury my dead wife among you.’ 10 Ephron the Hittite was sitting there among his people. He replied to Abraham. All of the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city heard him. 11 ‘No, sir,’ Ephron said. ‘Listen to me. I will give you the field. I’ll also give you the cave that’s in the field. I will give it to you in front of my people. Bury your wife.’ 12 Again Abraham bowed down in front of the people of the land. 13 He spoke to Ephron so they could hear him. He said, ‘Please listen to me. I’ll pay the price of the field. Accept it from me. Then I can bury my wife there.’ 14 Ephron answered Abraham, 15 ‘Sir, listen to me. The land is worth 5 kilograms of silver. But what’s that between the two of us? Bury your wife.’ 16 Abraham agreed to Ephron’s offer. He weighed out for Ephron the price he had named. The Hittites there had heard the amount. The price was 5 kilograms of silver. Abraham measured it by the weights that were used by merchants. 17 So Ephron sold his field to Abraham. The field was in Machpelah near Mamre. Abraham bought the field and the cave that was in it. He also bought all the trees that were inside the borders of the field. Everything was sold 18 to Abraham as his property. He bought it in front of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of the city. 19 Then Abraham buried his wife Sarah. He buried her in the cave in the field of Machpelah near Mamre in the land of Canaan. Mamre is at Hebron. 20 So the field and the cave that was in it were sold to Abraham by the Hittites. The property became a place to bury those who died in his family.
