Sagte er dann »Sibbolet«, weil er es nicht recht aussprechen konnte, so ergriffen sie ihn und töteten ihn an der Furt des Jordan, sodass zu der Zeit von Ephraim 42 000 fielen. (Mt 26,73; Offb 7,3; Offb 9,4)7Jephtah aber richtete Israel sechs Jahre lang. Dann starb Jephtah, der Gileaditer, und wurde begraben in einer der Städte Gileads. Die Richter Ibzan, Elon und Abdon
8Nach ihm richtete Ibzan von Bethlehem das Volk Israel. (Jos 19,15; Ri 17,7; Rut 2,2; Rut 2,4; 1Sam 16,1; Mt 2,1; Lk 2,4; Lk 2,15)9Der hatte 30 Söhne und entließ 30 Töchter aus seinem Haus und nahm seinen Söhnen 30 Töchter von auswärts als Ehefrauen; und er richtete Israel sieben Jahre lang. (Ps 127,3)10Danach starb Ibzan und wurde in Bethlehem begraben. (1Mo 35,19; 1Sam 16,1; Mi 5,1; Mt 2,1)11Nach ihm richtete Elon, ein Sebuloniter, das Volk Israel; der richtete Israel zehn Jahre lang. 1And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.2And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.3And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?4Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.5And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so , that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite?
