Die Rede des Paulus an das jüdische Volk

1 Ihr Männer, Brüder und Väter, hört jetzt meine Verteidigung vor euch an! (Apg 7,2; 1Petr 3,15) 2 Als sie aber hörten, dass er in hebräischer Sprache zu ihnen redete, wurden sie noch ruhiger; und er sprach: (Apg 21,40) 3 Ich bin ein jüdischer Mann, geboren in Tarsus in Cilicien, aber erzogen in dieser Stadt, zu den Füßen Gamaliels, unterwiesen in der gewissenhaften Einhaltung des Gesetzes der Väter, und ich war ein Eiferer für Gott, wie ihr alle es heute seid. 4 Ich verfolgte diesen Weg bis auf den Tod, indem ich Männer und Frauen band und ins Gefängnis überlieferte, (Apg 8,1; Apg 8,3; Apg 26,9; Gal 1,13; 1Tim 1,13)

5 wie mir auch der Hohepriester und die ganze Ältestenschaft Zeugnis gibt. Von ihnen empfing ich sogar Briefe an die Brüder und zog nach Damaskus, um auch die, welche dort waren, gebunden nach Jerusalem zu führen, damit sie bestraft würden. (Apg 9,1) 6 Es geschah mir aber, als ich auf meiner Reise in die Nähe von Damaskus kam, dass mich am Mittag plötzlich vom Himmel her ein helles Licht umstrahlte. 9 Meine Begleiter aber sahen zwar das Licht und wurden voll Furcht, aber die Stimme dessen, der mit mir redete, hörten sie nicht. (Dan 10,7) 10 Und ich sprach: Was soll ich tun, Herr? 11 Da ich aber wegen des Glanzes jenes Lichtes nicht sehen konnte, wurde ich von meinen Begleitern an der Hand geführt und kam nach Damaskus. 15 denn du sollst bei allen Menschen ein Zeuge für ihn sein von dem, was du gesehen und gehört hast. (Apg 1,8; Apg 23,11) 16 Und nun, was zögerst du? 17 Es geschah mir aber, als ich nach Jerusalem zurückgekehrt war und im Tempel betete, dass ich in eine Verzückung geriet (2Kor 12,2; Gal 1,18) 18 und Ihn sah, der zu mir sprach: Eile und geh schnell aus Jerusalem fort, denn sie werden dein Zeugnis über mich nicht annehmen! (Apg 18,9; Apg 22,14) 19 Und ich sprach: Herr, sie wissen selbst, dass ich die, welche an dich glaubten, ins Gefängnis werfen und in den Synagogen schlagen ließ, 20 und dass auch ich dabeistand, als das Blut deines Zeugen Stephanus vergossen wurde, und seiner Hinrichtung zustimmte und die Kleider derer verwahrte, die ihn töteten. (Apg 7,58; Apg 8,1) 21 Und er sprach zu mir: Geh hin, denn ich will dich in die Ferne zu den Heiden senden! (Apg 9,15; Röm 11,13) 22 Sie hörten ihm aber zu bis zu diesem Wort; und dann erhoben sie ihre Stimme und sprachen: Hinweg mit einem solchen von der Erde! Paulus vor dem römischen Befehlshaber

23 Als sie aber schrien und die Kleider von sich warfen und Staub in die Luft schleuderten, 24 ließ der Befehlshaber ihn in die Kaserne führen und befahl, ihn unter Geißelhieben zu verhören, um zu erfahren, aus welchem Grund sie derart über ihn schrien. (Apg 21,34) 25 Als man ihn aber mit den Riemen festband, sprach Paulus zu dem Hauptmann, der dabeistand: Ist es euch erlaubt, einen Römer zu geißeln, und dazu noch ohne Urteil? (Apg 16,37; Apg 25,16) 26 Als der Hauptmann das hörte, ging er hin und meldete es dem Befehlshaber und sprach: Hab acht, was du tun willst, denn dieser Mensch ist ein Römer! (Apg 22,29; Apg 23,27) 27 Da kam der Befehlshaber herzu und sprach zu ihm: Sage mir, bist du ein Römer? Er antwortete: Ja! 28 Und der Befehlshaber erwiderte: Ich habe dieses Bürgerrecht für eine große Summe erworben. Paulus aber sprach: Ich dagegen bin sogar darin geboren! (Apg 21,39; Phil 3,20) 29 Sogleich ließen die, welche ihn gewaltsam verhören wollten, von ihm ab, und auch der Befehlshaber fürchtete sich, nachdem er erfahren hatte, dass er ein Römer war, und weil er ihn hatte fesseln lassen. (Apg 16,38) 30 Da er aber mit Gewissheit erfahren wollte, weshalb er von den Juden angeklagt wurde, ließ er ihm am folgenden Tag die Fesseln abnehmen und befahl den obersten Priestern samt ihrem ganzen Hohen Rat, zu kommen; und er führte Paulus hinab und stellte ihn vor sie. (Apg 21,34)

And the same hour I looked up upon him. 14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. 15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. 16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. 17 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; 18 And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. 19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee: 20 And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him. 21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles. 22 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live. 23 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air, 24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him. 25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned? 26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman. 27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea. 28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. 29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. 30 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
