David wird König von Juda in Hebron. Ischboseth wird König von Israel

1 Und es geschah danach, da befragte David den HERRN und sprach: Soll ich in eine der Städte Judas hinaufziehen? Und der HERR sprach zu ihm: Zieh hinauf! Und David sprach: Wohin soll ich ziehen? 2 So zog David dort hinauf mit seinen beiden Frauen, Achinoam, der Jesreelitin, und Abigail, der Frau Nabals, des Karmeliters; (1Sam 25,42; Lk 22,28) 3 dazu führte David seine Männer hinauf, die bei ihm waren, jeden mit seinem Haus^[1], und sie wohnten in den Städten Hebrons. (1Sam 27,2; 1Chr 12,1) 4 Und die Männer von Juda kamen und salbten David dort zum König über das Haus Juda. Und als David berichtet wurde, dass die Männer von Jabes-Gilead Saul begraben hätten, (2Sam 2,11; 2Sam 19,11; 2Sam 19,40) 5 da sandte David Boten zu den Männern von Jabes-Gilead und ließ ihnen sagen: Gesegnet seid ihr vom HERRN, dass ihr solche Barmherzigkeit an Saul, eurem Herrn, geübt und ihn begraben habt! 10 Ischboseth aber, Sauls Sohn, war 40 Jahre alt, als er König wurde über Israel, und er regierte zwei Jahre lang. Nur das Haus Juda hielt zu David. (2Sam 2,8) 11 Die Zeit aber, die David in Hebron über das Haus Juda regierte, betrug sieben Jahre und sechs Monate. (2Sam 5,5; 1Kön 2,11)

13 Und Joab, der Sohn Zerujas, zog auch aus, samt den Knechten Davids; und sie stießen aufeinander am Teich von Gibeon, und die einen setzten sich diesseits, die anderen jenseits des Teiches fest. (2Sam 2,18; 2Sam 8,16; Jer 41,12) 14 Und Abner sprach zu Joab: Die jungen Männer sollen sich aufmachen und vor uns ein Kampfspiel aufführen! Und Joab sprach: Sie sollen sich aufmachen! (Spr 10,23; Spr 17,14) 15 Da machten sie sich auf und gingen abgezählt hin: zwölf aus Benjamin, von den Leuten Ischboseths, des Sohnes Sauls, und zwölf von den Knechten Davids. 16 Und einer griff den anderen beim Kopf und stieß ihm sein Schwert in die Seite; und sie fielen miteinander. Daher wird der Ort »Feld der Klingen« genannt; er liegt bei Gibeon. 17 Und es entspann sich ein sehr heftiger Kampf an jenem Tag; und Abner und die Männer von Israel wurden von den Knechten Davids geschlagen. (2Sam 3,1) 18 Es waren aber drei Söhne der Zeruja dort: Joab, Abisai und Asahel. Asahel aber war leichtfüßig wie eine Gazelle auf dem Feld. (1Chr 2,16; 1Chr 12,8; Spr 6,5; Hl 2,17; Hl 8,14)

19 Und Asahel jagte dem Abner nach und wich nicht von Abner, weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken. (Jos 1,7; 2Sam 2,21; 2Kön 22,2; Spr 4,27)

20 Da wandte sich Abner um und fragte: Bist du es, Asahel? Er antwortete: Ich bin’s! (2Sam 2,18; 2Sam 3,27; 2Sam 3,30) 21 Abner rief ihm zu: Wende dich entweder zur Rechten oder zur Linken und greife dir einen der jungen Männer und nimm dir seine Rüstung! Aber Asahel wollte nicht von ihm ablassen. (Ri 14,19) 22 Da rief Abner wieder dem Asahel zu: Lass ab von mir! Warum willst du, dass ich dich zu Boden schlage? Wie dürfte ich dann noch deinem Bruder Joab unter die Augen treten? (2Kön 14,10) 23 Als er sich aber weigerte, von ihm abzulassen, da stach ihn Abner mit dem hinteren Ende des Speeres in den Bauch, sodass der Speer hinten herausdrang. 24 Aber Joab und Abisai jagten dem Abner nach, bis die Sonne unterging; und als sie zu dem Hügel Amma kamen, der vor Giach liegt, auf dem Weg zur Wüste Gibeon, (2Sam 2,18) 25 da versammelten sich die Söhne Benjamins hinter Abner her und bildeten einen Haufen und traten auf die Höhe des Hügels. (2Sam 2,9) 26 Da rief Abner dem Joab zu und sprach: Soll denn das Schwert unaufhörlich fressen? Weißt du nicht, dass zuletzt eine Erbitterung entstehen wird? Und wie lange willst du nicht dem Volk sagen, dass es ablassen soll von seinen Brüdern? (Jer 46,10; Jer 46,14; Mt 26,52) 27 Joab sprach: So wahr Gott lebt, wenn du nicht gesprochen hättest,^[2] dann hätte sich das Volk schon an diesem Morgen zurückgezogen, und jeder hätte von der Verfolgung seines Bruders abgelassen! 28 Und Joab stieß in des Schopharhorn, und alles Volk stand still und jagte Israel nicht mehr nach, und sie kämpften auch nicht mehr. (2Sam 18,16; 2Sam 20,22) 29 Abner aber und seine Männer marschierten die ganze Nacht durch die Arava,^[3] und sie überschritten den Jordan und durchzogen die ganze Schlucht und kamen nach Mahanajim. (2Sam 2,8) 30 Joab aber kehrte um von der Verfolgung Abners und versammelte das ganze Volk. Und es fehlten von den Knechten Davids 19 Mann und Asahel. (2Sam 10,14; 2Sam 15,19; 1Kön 12,24) 31 Aber die Knechte Davids hatten von Benjamin und unter den Männern Abners 360 Mann erschlagen. 32 Und sie hoben Asahel auf und begruben ihn im Grab seines Vaters in Bethlehem. Joab aber samt seinen Männern marschierte die ganze Nacht, und das Licht brach ihnen an in Hebron. (1Sam 17,58; 1Chr 2,13)

1 And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabeshgilead were they that buried Saul. 5 And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabeshgilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the LORD, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him. 6 And now the LORD shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing. 7 Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them. 8 But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul' host, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim; 9 And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel. 10 Ishbosheth Saul' son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David. 11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months. 12 And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon. 13 And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool. 14 And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise. 15 Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David. 16 And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow' side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkathhazzurim, which is in Gibeon. 17 And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David. 18 And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe. 19 And Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner. 20 Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, I am . 21 And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him. 22 And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother? 23 Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib , that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still. 24 Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon. 25 And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill. 26 Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren? 27 And Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother. 28 So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more. 29 And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim. 30 And Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David' servants nineteen men and Asahel. 31 But the servants of David had smitten of Benjamin, and of Abner' men, so that three hundred and threescore men died. 32 And they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.
