Simsons Krafttaten im Streit mit den Philistern

1 Es geschah aber nach einiger Zeit, in den Tagen der Weizenernte, dass Simson seine Frau mit einem Ziegenböcklein besuchte. Als er aber sagte: Ich will zu meiner Frau in die Kammer gehen!, da wollte ihr Vater ihn nicht hineinlassen. 2 Denn ihr Vater sprach: Ich dachte, du hast sie gewiss verschmäht, da habe ich sie deinem Gefährten gegeben! Ist nicht ihre jüngere Schwester schöner als sie? Die soll dein sein an ihrer Stelle! (Ri 14,20) 3 Da sprach Simson zu ihnen: Nun bin ich unschuldig, wenn ich den Philistern Übles antue! (Ri 14,4) 4 Und Simson ging hin und fing 300 Schakale; und er nahm Fackeln, kehrte je einen Schwanz gegen den anderen und befestigte je eine Fackel zwischen zwei Schwänzen, (Jes 34,13; Jer 9,10; Jer 10,22) 5 und er zündete die Fackeln mit Feuer an und ließ sie unter das stehende Getreide der Philister laufen und zündete so die Garben an samt dem stehenden Getreide und den Olivengärten. (2Sam 14,30) 6 Da sprachen die Philister: Wer hat das getan? Da sagte man: Simson, der Schwiegersohn des Timniters, weil der ihm seine Frau genommen und sie seinem Gefährten gegeben hat! Da zogen die Philister hinauf und verbrannten sie samt ihrem Vater mit Feuer. (Ri 14,15) 7 Simson aber sprach zu ihnen: Wenn ihr so etwas tut, will ich nicht eher ruhen, als bis ich an euch Rache genommen habe! (Ri 14,4; Ri 14,19; Röm 12,19) 8 Und er zerschlug ihnen Schenkel und Hüften mit gewaltigen Schlägen. Dann stieg er hinab und blieb in der Felsenkluft von Etam. (2Chr 11,6) 9 Da zogen die Philister hinauf und lagerten sich in Juda und ließen sich in Lechi nieder. (Ri 15,14; Ri 15,19; 2Sam 23,11) 10 Aber die Männer von Juda sprachen: Warum seid ihr gegen uns heraufgezogen? Sie antworteten: Wir sind heraufgekommen, um Simson zu binden, damit wir ihm antun, was er uns angetan hat! (Ob 1,15) 11 Da zogen 3 000 Mann von Juda hinab zur Felsenkluft von Etam und sprachen zu Simson: Weißt du nicht, dass die Philister über uns herrschen? Warum hast du uns denn das angetan? Er sprach zu ihnen: Wie sie mir getan haben, so habe ich ihnen getan! (Ri 14,4; Ri 15,8; Ps 106,41; Jes 19,4)

12 Sie sprachen zu ihm: Wir sind herabgekommen, um dich zu binden und in die Hand der Philister auszuliefern! Simson sprach zu ihnen: So schwört mir, dass ihr selbst nicht über mich herfallen wollt! (Ri 8,21; Ri 16,5; 1Kön 2,25; 1Kön 2,34; Mt 27,2; Apg 7,25)

13 Sie antworteten ihm: Nein! Wir wollen dich nur binden und in ihre Hand ausliefern und wollen dich bestimmt nicht töten! Und sie banden ihn mit zwei neuen Stricken und führten ihn von der Kluft herauf. (Ri 16,11) 14 Als er nun nach Lechi kam, da jauchzten ihm die Philister entgegen. Da kam der Geist des HERRN über ihn, und die Stricke an seinen Armen wurden wie Flachsfäden, die das Feuer versengt hat, sodass die Fesseln von seinen Händen fielen. 16 Und Simson sprach: »Mit dem Eselskinnbacken färbte ich sie rot, mit dem Eselskinnbacken schlug ich tausend Mann tot!« (Ps 3,8) 17 Und als er diesen Ausspruch getan hatte, warf er den Kinnbacken aus seiner Hand; und man nannte jenen Ort Ramat-Lechi. 18 Da er aber großen Durst hatte, rief er den HERRN an und sprach: Du hast durch die Hand deines Knechtes diese große Rettung gegeben; soll ich nun aber vor Durst sterben und in die Hand der Unbeschnittenen fallen? 19 Da spaltete Gott die Höhlung, die bei Lechi ist, sodass Wasser herausfloss; und als er trank, kehrte sein Geist wieder, und er lebte auf. Darum nannte er sie »Quelle des Rufenden«; sie ist bei Lechi bis zum heutigen Tag. (4Mo 20,11; Ps 65,10; Ps 74,15; Ps 105,41; Jes 40,29)

Samson Defeats the Philistines

1 After some days, at the time of wheat harvest, Samson went to visit his wife with a young goat. And he said, “I will go in to my wife in the chamber.” But her father would not allow him to go in. (1Mo 38,17) 2 And her father said, “I really thought that you utterly hated her, so I gave her to your companion. Is not her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her instead.” (Ri 14,20; Ri 15,6) 3 And Samson said to them, “This time I shall be innocent in regard to the Philistines, when I do them harm.” 4 So Samson went and caught 300 foxes and took torches. And he turned them tail to tail and put a torch between each pair of tails. 5 And when he had set fire to the torches, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines and set fire to the stacked grain and the standing grain, as well as the olive orchards. 6 Then the Philistines said, “Who has done this?” And they said, “Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken his wife and given her to his companion.” And the Philistines came up and burned her and her father with fire. (Ri 14,15; Ri 15,2) 7 And Samson said to them, “If this is what you do, I swear I will be avenged on you, and after that I will quit.” 8 And he struck them hip and thigh with a great blow, and he went down and stayed in the cleft of the rock of Etam. 10 And the men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” They said, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he did to us.” 11 Then 3,000 men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson, “Do you not know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?” And he said to them, “As they did to me, so have I done to them.” (Ri 13,1; Ri 14,4) 12 And they said to him, “We have come down to bind you, that we may give you into the hands of the Philistines.” And Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves.” 13 They said to him, “No; we will only bind you and give you into their hands. We will surely not kill you.” So they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock. (Ri 16,11) 14 When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting to meet him. Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that has caught fire, and his bonds melted off his hands. (Ri 3,10; Ri 14,6; Ri 14,19; 1Sam 11,6)

15 And he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, and put out his hand and took it, and with it he struck 1,000 men. (3Mo 26,8; Jos 23,10; Ri 3,31) 16 And Samson said, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of a donkey have I struck down a thousand men.” 17 As soon as he had finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone out of his hand. And that place was called Ramath-lehi.^[1] (Ri 15,9; Ri 15,14) 18 And he was very thirsty, and he called upon the Lord and said, “You have granted this great salvation by the hand of your servant, and shall I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?” (Ps 3,7) 19 And God split open the hollow place that is at Lehi, and water came out from it. And when he drank, his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore the name of it was called En-hakkore;^[2] it is at Lehi to this day. (1Mo 45,27; Ri 15,17) 20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years. (Ri 13,1)
