Judas Kampf gegen die Kanaaniter

1 Und es geschah nach dem Tod Josuas, da fragten die Söhne Israels den HERRN und sprachen: Wer von uns soll zuerst hinaufziehen, um gegen die Kanaaniter zu kämpfen? (4Mo 27,21; 1Sam 30,7; Spr 3,5) 2 Und der HERR sprach: Juda soll hinaufziehen! Siehe, ich habe das Land in seine Hand gegeben. (1Mo 49,8) 3 Da sprach Juda zu seinem Bruder Simeon: Zieh mit mir hinauf in mein Los und lass uns gegen die Kanaaniter kämpfen, so will ich auch mit dir in dein Los ziehen! Und Simeon zog mit ihm. (Röm 15,30; 2Kor 2,11) 4 Als nun Juda hinaufzog, gab der HERR die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter in ihre Hand, und sie schlugen sie bei Besek, 10 000 Mann. (5Mo 7,1; 5Mo 9,3) 5 Und als sie den Adoni-Besek in Besek fanden, kämpften sie gegen ihn; und sie schlugen die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter. 8 Die Söhne Judas hatten nämlich gegen Jerusalem gekämpft und es erobert, und sie hatten die Einwohner mit der Schärfe des Schwertes geschlagen, die Stadt aber in Brand gesteckt. (Jos 15,63; Ri 1,21; 2Sam 5,6) 9 Danach zogen die Söhne Judas hinab, um gegen die Kanaaniter zu kämpfen, die auf dem Bergland^[1] und im Negev^[2] und in der Schephela^[3] wohnten. (Jos 10,40) 10 Juda zog auch gegen die Kanaaniter, die in Hebron wohnten; Hebron aber hieß vor Zeiten Kirjat-Arba; und sie schlugen Sesai und Achiman und Talmai. (Jos 15,15) 12 Und Kaleb sprach: Wer Kirjat-Sepher schlägt und erobert, dem will ich meine Tochter Achsa zur Frau geben! (Jos 15,16) 13 Da eroberte es Otniel, der Sohn des Kenas, des jüngeren Bruders Kalebs; und er gab ihm seine Tochter Achsa zur Frau. (Jos 15,17; Ri 3,9) 14 Und es geschah, als sie einzog, da spornte sie ihn an, von ihrem Vater einen Acker zu erbitten. Und sie sprang vom Esel. Da sprach Kaleb zu ihr: Was willst du? (Jos 15,18) 15 Sie sprach: Gib mir einen Segen! Denn du hast mir ein Südland gegeben; so gib mir auch Wasserquellen! Da gab ihr Kaleb die oberen Wasserquellen und die unteren Wasserquellen. (Jos 15,19) 16 Und die Söhne des Keniters, des Schwiegervaters Moses, waren mit den Söhnen Judas aus der Palmenstadt in die Wüste Juda hinaufgezogen, die südlich von Arad liegt; und so gingen sie hin und wohnten bei dem Volk. 17 Juda aber zog hin mit seinem Bruder Simeon; und sie schlugen die Kanaaniter, die in Zephat wohnten, und vollstreckten an ihnen den Bann und nannten die Stadt Horma. (5Mo 1,4; Jos 12,14; Ri 1,3) 18 Dazu eroberte Juda Gaza samt seinem Gebiet und Askalon samt seinem Gebiet und Ekron samt seinem Gebiet. 20 Und sie gaben dem Kaleb Hebron, wie es Mose gesagt hatte; und dieser vertrieb daraus die drei Söhne Enaks. (Jos 14,9; Ri 1,10)

Die Untreue der anderen Stämme. Verschonung der Kanaaniter

21 Aber die Söhne Benjamins vertrieben die Jebusiter nicht, die in Jerusalem wohnten; sondern die Jebusiter wohnten bei den Söhnen Benjamins in Jerusalem bis zu diesem Tag. (Jos 15,63; Jos 18,27) 22 Auch das Haus Joseph zog hinauf, nach Bethel, und der HERR war mit ihnen. (1Mo 49,22; Jos 16,1; Ri 1,19; 1Chr 7,28)

23 Und das Haus Joseph ließ Bethel auskundschaften; die Stadt hieß aber früher Lus. (Jos 2,1) 24 Und die Späher sahen einen Mann aus der Stadt herauskommen und sprachen zu ihm: Zeige uns doch, wo wir in die Stadt eindringen können, so wollen wir dir Gnade erweisen! 28 Und als Israel erstarkte, machte es die Kanaaniter fronpflichtig^[4]; aber es vertrieb sie nicht aus ihrem Besitz. (Jos 17,12) 29 Und Ephraim vertrieb die Kanaaniter nicht, die in Geser wohnten; sondern die Kanaaniter blieben in ihrer Mitte in Geser. The Continuing Conquest of Canaan

1 After the death of Joshua, the people of Israel inquired of the Lord, “Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?” (4Mo 27,21; Ri 20,18; 1Sam 22,10; 2Sam 2,1)

2 The Lord said, “Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand.” 3 And Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me into the territory allotted to me, that we may fight against the Canaanites. And I likewise will go with you into the territory allotted to you.” So Simeon went with him. (Ri 1,17) 4 Then Judah went up and the Lord gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, and they defeated 10,000 of them at Bezek. 5 They found Adoni-bezek at Bezek and fought against him and defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites. 6 Adoni-bezek fled, but they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and his big toes. 7 And Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and their big toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table. As I have done, so God has repaid me.” And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there. 11 From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir. The name of Debir was formerly Kiriath-sepher. 12 And Caleb said, “He who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give him Achsah my daughter for a wife.” 13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter for a wife. (Ri 3,9) 14 When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she dismounted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 15 She said to him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.” And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs. 16 And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad, and they went and settled with the people. 17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they defeated the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath and devoted it to destruction. So the name of the city was called Hormah.^[1] (4Mo 21,3; Ri 1,3) 18 Judah also captured Gaza with its territory, and Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory. Failure to Complete the Conquest

27 Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages, for the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land. (Jos 17,11) 28 When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not drive them out completely. 29 And Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them. (Jos 16,10; 1Kön 9,16) 30 Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol, so the Canaanites lived among them, but became subject to forced labor. (Jos 19,15; Jos 21,35) 31 Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon or of Ahlab or of Achzib or of Helbah or of Aphik or of Rehob, (Jos 19,24) 32 so the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, for they did not drive them out. 33 Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, so they lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to forced labor for them. (Jos 19,32) 34 The Amorites pressed the people of Dan back into the hill country, for they did not allow them to come down to the plain. (Jos 19,47) 35 The Amorites persisted in dwelling in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, but the hand of the house of Joseph rested heavily on them, and they became subject to forced labor.
