Jakobs Beerdigung im Land Kanaan

1 Da fiel Joseph auf das Angesicht seines Vaters und weinte über ihm und küsste ihn. (1Mo 46,4; 1Sam 30,4) 2 Danach befahl Joseph seinen Dienern, den Ärzten, dass sie seinen Vater einbalsamierten; und die Ärzte balsamierten Israel ein. (1Mo 50,26; 2Chr 16,14; Mk 14,8; Mk 16,1)

3 Und sie verwendeten darauf volle 40 Tage; denn so lange dauert die Einbalsamierung; aber beweint haben ihn die Ägypter 70 Tage lang. (4Mo 20,29; 5Mo 34,8; Röm 12,15) 4 Als aber die Tage der Trauer um ihn vorüber waren, redete Joseph mit dem Haus des Pharao und sprach: Wenn ich Gnade gefunden habe in euren Augen, so redet doch vor den Ohren des Pharao und sprecht: (1Mo 18,3; 1Mo 50,10) 5 Mein Vater hat einen Eid von mir genommen und zu mir gesagt: Siehe, ich sterbe; begrabe mich in meinem Grab, das ich mir im Land Kanaan angelegt habe! So lass mich nun hinaufziehen, dass ich meinen Vater begrabe und danach wiederkomme! (1Mo 49,29) 6 Und der Pharao sprach: Zieh hinauf und begrabe deinen Vater, wie er dich hat schwören lassen! 7 Da zog Joseph hinauf, um seinen Vater zu begraben; und mit ihm zogen alle Knechte des Pharao hinauf, alle Ältesten seines Hauses und alle Ältesten des Landes Ägypten; 8 dazu das ganze Haus Josephs und seine Brüder und das Haus seines Vaters; nur ihre Kinder, Schafe und Rinder ließen sie im Land Gosen zurück. (2Mo 10,9; 2Mo 10,24) 9 Es begleiteten ihn auch Wagen und Reiter, und es war ein großer Heerzug. (Jes 31,1) 10 Als sie nun zur Tenne Atad kamen, die jenseits des Jordan liegt, hielten sie dort eine große und feierliche Totenklage; denn [Joseph] veranstaltete für seinen Vater eine siebentägige Trauer. 11 Als aber die Bewohner des Landes, die Kanaaniter, die Trauer bei der Tenne Atad sahen, sprachen sie: Die Ägypter halten da eine große Klage! Daher wurde der Ort, der jenseits des Jordan liegt, »Die Klage der Ägypter« genannt. (1Mo 13,7; 1Mo 24,3; 2Sam 1,17; Ps 102,1; Sach 12,11)

12 Seine Söhne aber handelten so, wie er ihnen befohlen hatte: (1Mo 49,29; Apg 7,16; Eph 6,1) 13 sie führten ihn ins Land Kanaan und begruben ihn in der Höhle des Ackers Machpelah, die Abraham samt dem Acker als Erbbegräbnis gekauft hatte von Ephron, dem Hetiter, gegenüber von Mamre. (1Mo 23,16) 14 Joseph aber kehrte nach dem Begräbnis seines Vaters wieder nach Ägypten zurück, er und seine Brüder und alle, die mit ihm hinaufgezogen waren, um seinen Vater zu begraben. (1Mo 50,8)

Josephs Bruderliebe. Gottes Plan

15 Als nun Josephs Brüder sahen, dass ihr Vater gestorben war, sprachen sie: Joseph könnte gegen uns feindselig werden und uns all die Bosheit vergelten, die wir an ihm verübt haben! (1Mo 37,24; 1Mo 37,28; 1Mo 37,36; Ps 53,6; Spr 28,1)

16 Darum ließen sie Joseph sagen: Dein Vater befahl vor seinem Tod und sprach: (Spr 29,25) 17 So sollt ihr zu Joseph sagen: Bitte, vergib doch deinen Brüdern die Schuld und ihre Sünde, dass sie so Böses an dir getan haben! 20 Ihr gedachtet mir zwar Böses zu tun; aber Gott gedachte es gut zu machen, um es so hinauszuführen, wie es jetzt zutage liegt, um ein zahlreiches Volk am Leben zu erhalten. (1Mo 37,18; 1Mo 45,5; Ps 109,5; Röm 8,28; Phil 1,12)

Josephs letzte Tage. Sein Tod

22 Und Joseph blieb in Ägypten, er und das Haus seines Vaters; und Joseph lebte 110 Jahre. (Jos 24,29) 23 Und Joseph sah die Kinder Ephraims bis in das dritte Glied; auch die Kinder Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, saßen noch auf Josephs Knien. 25 Und Joseph nahm einen Eid von den Söhnen Israels und sprach: Gewisslich wird Gott euch heimsuchen, und ihr sollt dann meine Gebeine von hier hinaufbringen! (2Mo 13,19; Jos 24,32; Hebr 11,22) 26 Und Joseph starb, 110 Jahre alt; und man balsamierte ihn ein und legte ihn in einen Sarg in Ägypten. (1Mo 50,2)

4 And when the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spoke to the household of Pharaoh, saying, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, (1Mo 33,15; 1Mo 47,29) 5 ‘My father made me swear, saying, “I am about to die: in my tomb that I hewed out for myself in the land of Canaan, there shall you bury me.” Now therefore, let me please go up and bury my father. Then I will return.’” (2Chr 16,14; Jes 22,16; Mt 27,60) 6 And Pharaoh answered, “Go up, and bury your father, as he made you swear.” 7 So Joseph went up to bury his father. With him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his household, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, 8 as well as all the household of Joseph, his brothers, and his father’s household. Only their children, their flocks, and their herds were left in the land of Goshen. (1Mo 45,10) 9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen. It was a very great company. 10 When they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, they lamented there with a very great and grievous lamentation, and he made a mourning for his father seven days. (1Mo 50,3; 2Sam 1,17; Apg 8,2) 11 When the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning on the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “This is a grievous mourning by the Egyptians.” Therefore the place was named Abel-mizraim;^[1] it is beyond the Jordan. 12 Thus his sons did for him as he had commanded them, 13 for his sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field at Machpelah, to the east of Mamre, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite to possess as a burying place. (1Mo 23,16; 1Mo 49,29; Apg 7,16) 14 After he had buried his father, Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had gone up with him to bury his father.

God’s Good Purposes

15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.” 16 So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this command before he died: 17 ‘Say to Joseph, “Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. (1Mo 49,25) 18 His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.” (1Mo 37,7; 1Mo 37,10) 19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? (1Mo 30,2; 2Kön 5,7) 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people^[2] should be kept alive, as they are today. (1Mo 45,5; 1Mo 45,7) 21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. (1Mo 45,11; 1Mo 47,12)

The Death of Joseph

22 So Joseph remained in Egypt, he and his father’s house. Joseph lived 110 years. 23 And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation. The children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were counted as Joseph’s own.^[3] (1Mo 30,3; 4Mo 32,39; 1Chr 7,14; Hi 42,16; Ps 128,6)

25 Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” (2Mo 13,19; Jos 24,32) 26 So Joseph died, being 110 years old. They embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt. (1Mo 50,2)
