Die Gerichtsbotschaft des Propheten aus Juda

1 Aber siehe, ein Mann Gottes kam von Juda durch das Wort des HERRN nach Bethel, als Jerobeam eben bei dem Altar stand, um zu räuchern. (4Mo 17,5; 1Kön 12,32; 1Kön 13,2; 2Chr 26,18; Mal 1,11)

2 Und er rief gegen den Altar durch das Wort des HERRN und sprach: Altar! Altar! So spricht der HERR: »Siehe, es wird dem Haus Davids ein Sohn namens Josia geboren werden, der wird auf dir die Priester der Höhen schlachten, die auf dir räuchern, und man wird Menschengebeine auf dir verbrennen!« (2Kön 22,1; 2Kön 23,15) 3 Und er gab an jenem Tag ein Zeichen und sprach: Das ist das Zeichen, dass der HERR dies geredet hat: Siehe, der Altar wird bersten und die Asche, die darauf ist, verschüttet werden! 4 Und es geschah, als der König das Wort des Mannes Gottes hörte, der gegen den Altar von Bethel rief, da streckte Jerobeam seine Hand aus vom Altar herab und sprach: Ergreift ihn! Da verdorrte seine Hand, die er gegen ihn ausgestreckt hatte, sodass er sie nicht wieder zu sich ziehen konnte. 5 Und der Altar barst, und die Asche wurde vom Altar herabverschüttet, gemäß dem Zeichen, das der Mann Gottes durch das Wort des HERRN angekündigt hatte. (5Mo 18,22; 1Kön 13,3; 1Kön 22,28; 1Kön 22,35; Mk 16,17)

6 Da ergriff der König das Wort und sprach zu dem Mann Gottes: Besänftige doch das Angesicht des HERRN, deines Gottes, und bitte für mich, dass meine Hand mir wieder gegeben werde! Da besänftigte der Mann Gottes das Angesicht des HERRN. Und die Hand des Königs wurde ihm wiedergegeben, und sie wurde wieder wie zuvor. 7 Da sprach der König zu dem Mann Gottes: Komm mit mir heim und erfrische dich! Ich will dir auch ein Geschenk geben. (1Sam 9,7; 2Kön 5,15; Am 2,11) 8 Aber der Mann Gottes sprach zum König: Wenn du mir auch dein halbes Haus geben würdest, so käme ich nicht mit dir; denn ich würde an diesem Ort kein Brot essen und kein Wasser trinken. 10 Und er ging einen anderen Weg und kehrte nicht wieder auf dem gleichen Weg zurück, auf dem er nach Bethel gekommen war. (1Kön 13,1; 1Kön 13,11)

Der Ungehorsam des Propheten wird bestraft

11 Aber in Bethel wohnte ein alter Prophet. Zu dem kam einer seiner Söhne und erzählte ihm alles, was der Mann Gottes an jenem Tag in Bethel getan hatte; [auch] die Worte, die er zum König geredet hatte, erzählten sie ihrem Vater. (4Mo 23,4; 1Kön 13,20; Hes 13,1; Hes 13,16; Mt 7,22; 2Petr 2,15)

12 Da sprach ihr Vater zu ihnen: Welchen Weg ist er gegangen? Und seine Söhne hatten den Weg gesehen, den der Mann Gottes, der von Juda gekommen war, eingeschlagen hatte. (1Kön 13,10) 13 Er aber sprach zu seinen Söhnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Und sie sattelten ihm den Esel, und er ritt darauf; (4Mo 22,21; 2Sam 19,26; 1Kön 13,27) 14 und er ging dem Mann Gottes nach und fand ihn unter einer Terebinthe sitzen und sprach zu ihm: Bist du der Mann Gottes, der von Juda gekommen ist? 17 denn durch das Wort des HERRN ist zu mir gesagt worden: Du sollst dort weder Brot essen noch Wasser trinken; du sollst nicht auf dem gleichen Weg zurückkehren, auf dem du hingegangen bist! (1Kön 13,9) 18 Aber jener sprach zu ihm: Ich bin auch ein Prophet wie du, und ein Engel hat durch das Wort des HERRN zu mir geredet und gesagt: Führe ihn zurück in dein Haus, damit er Brot esse und Wasser trinke! 19 Da kehrte er mit ihm um und aß in seinem Haus Brot und trank Wasser. 21 und er rief dem Mann Gottes zu, der von Juda gekommen war, und sprach: So spricht der HERR: Weil du dem Befehl des HERRN ungehorsam gewesen bist und das Gebot nicht gehalten hast, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, geboten hat, (1Sam 13,13; 1Sam 15,23; Lk 12,47) 22 sondern umgekehrt bist und Brot gegessen und Wasser getrunken hast an diesem Ort, von dem er dir sagte, du solltest weder Brot essen noch Wasser trinken, so soll dein Leichnam nicht in das Grab deiner Väter kommen! (1Kön 13,30; 1Kön 14,13; Jer 22,18) 23 Und es geschah, nachdem er Brot gegessen und getrunken hatte, da sattelte er ihm, dem Propheten, den er zurückgeführt hatte, den Esel. 25 Und siehe, als Leute vorbeigingen, da sahen sie den Leichnam hingestreckt auf dem Weg liegen und den Löwen bei dem Leichnam stehen, und sie kamen und sagten es in der Stadt, in welcher der alte Prophet wohnte. (1Kön 13,1; 1Kön 13,11) 26 Als nun der Prophet, der ihn vom Weg zurückgeholt hatte, das hörte, sprach er: Es ist der Mann Gottes, der dem Befehl des HERRN ungehorsam gewesen ist; darum hat ihn der HERR dem Löwen übergeben, der hat ihn zerrissen und getötet nach dem Wort, das der HERR zu ihm geredet hat! 27 Und er redete mit seinen Söhnen und sprach: Sattelt mir den Esel! Und als sie ihn gesattelt hatten, (1Kön 13,13) 28 da ging er hin und fand seinen Leichnam hingestreckt auf dem Weg liegen und den Esel und den Löwen neben dem Leichnam stehen. Der Löwe hatte den Leichnam nicht gefressen und den Esel nicht zerrissen. 29 Da hob der Prophet den Leichnam des Mannes Gottes auf und legte ihn auf den Esel und führte ihn zurück. Und er kam in die Stadt des alten Propheten, um ihn zu beklagen und zu begraben. 31 Und als er ihn begraben hatte, sprach er zu seinen Söhnen: Wenn ich sterbe, so begrabt mich in dem Grab, in dem der Mann Gottes begraben worden ist, und legt meine Gebeine neben seine Gebeine. (2Kön 23,17) 32 Denn das Wort wird gewiss eintreffen, das er durch das Wort des HERRN ausgerufen hat gegen den Altar in Bethel und gegen alle Höhenheiligtümer, die in den Städten Samarias sind! 33 Aber nach dieser Begebenheit kehrte Jerobeam nicht um von seinem bösen Weg, sondern er setzte wieder Höhenpriester aus dem gesamten Volk ein; wer Lust hatte, den weihte er, und der wurde Höhenpriester. (1Kön 12,31; Spr 27,22; Jer 5,3; Jer 13,23; Am 4,6)

A Man of God Confronts Jeroboam

1 And behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the Lord to Bethel. Jeroboam was standing by the altar to make offerings. (1Kön 12,33; 2Kön 23,17) 2 And the man cried against the altar by the word of the Lord and said, “O altar, altar, thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name, and he shall sacrifice on you the priests of the high places who make offerings on you, and human bones shall be burned on you.’” (1Kön 13,32; 2Kön 23,15) 3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign that the Lord has spoken: ‘Behold, the altar shall be torn down, and the ashes that are on it shall be poured out.’” (Ri 6,17) 4 And when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar at Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him.” And his hand, which he stretched out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself. 5 The altar also was torn down, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of the Lord. 6 And the king said to the man of God, “Entreat now the favor of the Lord your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me.” And the man of God entreated the Lord, and the king’s hand was restored to him and became as it was before. 7 And the king said to the man of God, “Come home with me, and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.” (1Sam 9,7; 2Kön 5,15) 8 And the man of God said to the king, “If you give me half your house, I will not go in with you. And I will not eat bread or drink water in this place, (4Mo 22,18; 4Mo 24,13; 1Kön 13,16) 9 for so was it commanded me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘You shall neither eat bread nor drink water nor return by the way that you came.’” 10 So he went another way and did not return by the way that he came to Bethel.

The Prophet’s Disobedience

11 Now an old prophet lived in Bethel. And his sons^[1] came and told him all that the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They also told to their father the words that he had spoken to the king. (1Kön 13,25; 2Kön 23,18) 12 And their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” And his sons showed him the way that the man of God who came from Judah had gone. 13 And he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him and he mounted it. 14 And he went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak. And he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he said, “I am.” 15 Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.” 16 And he said, “I may not return with you, or go in with you, neither will I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place, (1Kön 13,8) 17 for it was said to me by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall neither eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by the way that you came.’” (1Kön 20,35; 1Thess 4,15) 18 And he said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house that he may eat bread and drink water.’” But he lied to him. 19 So he went back with him and ate bread in his house and drank water. 20 And as they sat at the table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back. 21 And he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord and have not kept the command that the Lord your God commanded you, 22 but have come back and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread and drink no water,” your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.’” 23 And after he had eaten bread and drunk, he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back. 24 And as he went away a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his body was thrown in the road, and the donkey stood beside it; the lion also stood beside the body. (1Kön 20,36) 25 And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown in the road and the lion standing by the body. And they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived. (1Kön 13,11) 26 And when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, “It is the man of God who disobeyed the word of the Lord; therefore the Lord has given him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word that the Lord spoke to him.” 27 And he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” And they saddled it. 28 And he went and found his body thrown in the road, and the donkey and the lion standing beside the body. The lion had not eaten the body or torn the donkey. 29 And the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it on the donkey and brought it back to the city^[2] to mourn and to bury him. 30 And he laid the body in his own grave. And they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!” (Jer 22,18) 31 And after he had buried him, he said to his sons, “When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones. 33 After this thing Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but made priests for the high places again from among all the people. Any who would, he ordained to be priests of the high places. 34 And this thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, so as to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth.
