1 Als aber der König David alt und hochbetagt war, konnte er nicht warm werden, obgleich man ihn mit Kleidern bedeckte. (2Sam 5,4; 1Chr 23,1; Ps 90,10) 2 Da sprachen seine Knechte zu ihm: Man sollte unserem Herrn, dem König, ein Mädchen suchen, eine Jungfrau; und sie soll vor dem König stehen und ihn pflegen und in seinen Armen schlafen, damit unserem Herrn, dem König, warm wird! (5Mo 10,8; 1Sam 16,21; 2Chr 29,11; Pred 4,11) 3 Und sie suchten ein schönes Mädchen im ganzen Gebiet von Israel, und sie fanden Abischag, die Schunamitin; die brachten sie zum König. (Jos 19,18; 2Kön 4,8; 2Kön 4,25) 4 Sie war aber ein sehr schönes Mädchen; und sie pflegte den König und diente ihm; aber der König hatte keinen ehelichen Umgang mit ihr.[1] (1Kön 2,17; Mt 1,24) 5 Adonija aber, der Sohn der Haggit, erhob sich und sprach: Ich will König werden! Und er verschaffte sich Wagen und Reiter und 50 Mann, die vor ihm herliefen. (Ri 9,1; 2Sam 3,4; 2Sam 15,1; Spr 18,12; Lk 14,11) 6 Aber sein Vater hatte ihn nie betrübt zeit seines Lebens, sodass er gesagt hätte: Warum tust du so etwas? Auch war er sehr schön von Gestalt; und [seine Mutter] hatte ihn nach Absalom geboren. (1Sam 3,13; 1Chr 3,2; Spr 29,15) 7 Und er traf Absprachen mit Joab, dem Sohn der Zeruja, und mit Abjatar, dem Priester; die unterstützten Adonija. (2Sam 20,23; 1Kön 2,22; 1Kön 2,26; 1Kön 2,28) 8 Aber der Priester Zadok und Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, und der Prophet Nathan und Simei und Rei und die Helden Davids hielten nicht zu Adonija. (2Sam 7,2; 2Sam 12,25; 2Sam 23,8; 1Kön 1,32; 1Kön 4,18) 9 Und als Adonija Schafe und Rinder und Mastvieh opferte bei dem Stein Sochelet, der neben der Quelle Rogel liegt, lud er alle seine Brüder ein, die Söhne des Königs, und alle Männer Judas, die Knechte des Königs. (2Sam 17,17) 10 Aber den Propheten Nathan und Benaja und die Helden und seinen Bruder Salomo[2] lud er nicht ein. (1Kön 1,8; 1Kön 1,19) 



11 Da redete Nathan mit Bathseba, der Mutter Salomos, und sagte: Hast du nicht gehört, dass Adonija, der Sohn der Haggit, König geworden ist, ohne dass David, unser Herr, etwas davon weiß? (2Sam 12,24; 1Chr 22,9; 1Chr 29,1) 12 Komm nun, ich will dir doch einen Rat geben, damit du dein Leben und das Leben deines Sohnes Salomo rettest. (2Sam 17,14; Ps 73,24; Spr 2,10; Spr 12,15; Spr 27,9; Jes 28,29; Jer 32,19) 13 Komm und geh hinein zum König David und sprich zu ihm: »Hast du, mein Herr und König, nicht deiner Magd geschworen und gesagt: Dein Sohn Salomo soll König sein nach mir, und er soll auf meinem Thron sitzen? Warum ist dann Adonija König geworden?« (1Kön 1,30; 1Kön 1,43; 1Chr 22,6; 1Chr 28,6) 14 Siehe, während du noch dort bist und mit dem König redest, will ich nach dir hineinkommen und deine Worte bestätigen! (1Kön 1,22) 15 Da ging Bathseba zum König in die Kammer hinein. Der König aber war sehr alt, und Abischag, die Schunamitin, diente dem König. (1Kön 1,2) 16 Und Bathseba neigte und verbeugte sich vor dem König. Der König aber sprach: Was willst du? (1Sam 25,23; 1Kön 1,23) 17 Sie sprach zu ihm: Mein Herr, du hast deiner Magd bei dem HERRN, deinem Gott, geschworen: »Dein Sohn Salomo soll König sein nach mir, und er soll auf meinem Thron sitzen!« (1Mo 18,12; 1Sam 24,7; 1Kön 1,3; 1Petr 3,6) 18 Nun aber, siehe, ist Adonija König geworden; und du, mein Herr und König, weißt nichts davon. (1Kön 1,11; 1Kön 1,24; 1Kön 1,27) 19 Er hat Stiere und Mastvieh und viele Schafe geopfert und hat alle Söhne des Königs eingeladen, dazu Abjatar, den Priester, und Joab, den Heerführer. Aber deinen Knecht Salomo hat er nicht eingeladen. (1Kön 1,7; 1Kön 1,25) 20 Du bist es aber, mein Herr und König, auf den die Augen von ganz Israel sehen, dass du ihnen verkündest, wer nach meinem Herrn und König auf seinem Thron sitzen soll! (2Chr 20,12; Ps 25,15; Ps 123,2) 21 Und es wird geschehen, wenn mein Herr und König bei seinen Vätern liegt, so werden ich und mein Sohn Salomo es büßen müssen! (1Mo 15,15; 5Mo 31,16; 1Kön 2,10) 22 Während sie noch mit dem König redete, siehe, da kam der Prophet Nathan. (1Mo 24,15; Hi 1,16; Dan 9,20) 23 Da meldete man dem König und sprach: Siehe, der Prophet Nathan ist da! Und als er vor den König hineinkam, verneigte er sich vor dem König mit dem Angesicht zur Erde. (Röm 13,7; 1Petr 2,17) 24 Und Nathan sprach: Mein Herr und König, hast du gesagt: »Adonija soll nach mir König sein, und er soll auf meinem Thron sitzen«? (1Kön 1,11; 1Kön 1,18) 25 Denn er ist heute hinabgegangen und hat Stiere und Mastvieh und viele Schafe geopfert und hat alle Söhne des Königs eingeladen und die Heerführer, dazu den Priester Abjatar. Und siehe, sie essen und trinken vor ihm und sagen: Es lebe der König Adonija! (1Sam 10,24; 2Sam 16,16; 1Kön 1,34; 2Kön 11,12) 26 Aber mich, deinen Knecht, und Zadok, den Priester, und Benaja, den Sohn Jojadas, und deinen Knecht Salomo hat er nicht eingeladen. (1Kön 1,8; 1Kön 1,19) 27 Ist diese Sache von meinem Herrn, dem König, aus geschehen? Und hast du deinen Knecht nicht wissen lassen, wer auf dem Thron meines Herrn, des Königs, nach ihm sitzen soll? (1Chr 22,9; Ps 15,4; Mt 5,33) 



28 Der König David antwortete und sprach: Ruft mir Bathseba! Und sie kam hinein vor den König; und als sie vor dem König stand, (1Kön 1,15; 1Kön 1,23) 29 da schwor der König und sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, der meine Seele aus aller Not erlöst hat, (1Mo 48,16; 2Sam 4,9; 2Sam 22,47; 1Kön 2,24; Ps 34,5; Ps 34,7; Ps 34,18; Ps 138,7) 30 ich will heute so handeln, wie ich es dir bei dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, geschworen habe, indem ich sprach: Salomo, dein Sohn, soll König nach mir sein, und er soll an meiner Stelle auf meinem Thron sitzen! (2Kor 1,18; Jak 1,17) 31 Da verneigte sich Bathseba mit ihrem Angesicht zur Erde und warf sich vor dem König nieder und sprach: Mein Herr, der König David, lebe ewiglich! (Neh 2,3; Ps 16,10; Ps 118,17; Joh 11,25) 32 Und der König David sprach: Ruft mir den Priester Zadok und den Propheten Nathan und Benaja, den Sohn Jojadas! Und als sie vor den König hineinkamen, (2Sam 8,17; 1Kön 1,8; 1Kön 1,26; 1Kön 1,38) 33 da sprach der König zu ihnen: Nehmt die Knechte eures Herrn mit euch und setzt meinen Sohn Salomo auf mein Maultier und führt ihn hinab zur Gihon[-Quelle]! (2Sam 20,6; 1Kön 1,38; 2Chr 32,30; 2Chr 33,14) 34 Und der Priester Zadok und der Prophet Nathan sollen ihn dort zum König über Israel salben; und stoßt in das Schopharhorn und ruft: Es lebe der König Salomo! (1Sam 10,1; 1Sam 16,3; 1Sam 16,12; 1Kön 1,25; 1Kön 1,31; 1Kön 19,16; 2Kön 9,3; 2Kön 11,12) 35 Und zieht hinter ihm herauf, und er soll kommen und auf meinem Thron sitzen und König sein an meiner Stelle; denn ich habe ihn dazu bestimmt, dass er Fürst über Israel und Juda sein soll! (1Kön 2,15; 1Chr 23,1; 1Chr 28,4; Ps 2,6) 36 Da antwortete Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, dem König und sprach: Amen! So spreche auch der HERR, der Gott meines Herrn, des Königs! (Ps 31,15; Jer 28,6; 1Kor 14,16; Offb 5,14; Offb 19,4) 37 Wie der HERR mit meinem Herrn, dem König, gewesen ist, so sei er auch mit Salomo, und er mache seinen Thron noch größer als den Thron meines Herrn, des Königs David! (Jos 1,17; 1Chr 29,25; Ps 72,8; Ps 89,28) 38 Da gingen der Priester Zadok und der Prophet Nathan und Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, und die Kreter und Pleter[3] hinab und setzten Salomo auf das Maultier des Königs David und führten ihn zur Gihon[-Quelle]. (1Kön 1,32; Est 6,8; Est 6,11; Sach 9,9) 39 Und der Priester Zadok nahm das Ölhorn aus dem Zelt und salbte Salomo, und sie stießen in das Schopharhorn, und das ganze Volk rief: Es lebe der König Salomo! (2Mo 30,25; 1Kön 1,34; 1Chr 29,22; Ps 89,21) 40 Und das ganze Volk zog hinter ihm herauf, und das Volk blies auf Flöten und war sehr fröhlich, sodass die Erde von ihrem Geschrei erzitterte. (1Sam 11,15; Ps 97,1; Sach 9,9; Lk 19,37; Offb 11,15) 41 Adonija aber hörte es samt allen Gästen, die bei ihm waren, als sie eben das Mahl beendigt hatten. Als aber Joab den Schall des Schopharhornes hörte, sprach er: Was soll das Geschrei und der Tumult in der Stadt? (1Kön 1,25; Spr 14,13) 42 Während er aber noch redete, siehe, da kam Jonathan, der Sohn des Priesters Abjatar. Und Adonija sprach: Komm herein; denn du bist ein tüchtiger Mann und bringst [gewiss] gute Botschaft! (2Sam 15,36; 2Sam 18,27) 43 Jonathan aber antwortete und sprach zu Adonija: Fürwahr, unser Herr, der König David, hat Salomo zum König gemacht! (1Kön 1,32) 44 Und der König hat den Priester Zadok mit ihm gesandt und den Propheten Nathan und Benaja, den Sohn Jojadas, und die Kreter und Pleter, und sie haben ihn auf das Maultier des Königs gesetzt. (1Kön 1,32; 1Kön 1,38) 45 Und der Priester Zadok und der Prophet Nathan haben ihn zum König gesalbt bei der Gihon [-Quelle], und sie sind mit Freuden von dort heraufgezogen, sodass die ganze Stadt in Bewegung ist. Das ist das Geschrei, das ihr gehört habt. (1Sam 4,5; 1Kön 1,33; 1Kön 1,40; 2Chr 32,30; Apg 19,29) 46 Dazu hat sich Salomo auf den königlichen Thron gesetzt. (1Kön 1,13; 1Chr 29,23; Ps 132,11) 47 Und auch die Knechte des Königs sind hineingegangen, um unserem Herrn, dem König David, Glück zu wünschen, und sie haben gesagt: »Dein Gott mache den Namen Salomos noch herrlicher als deinen Namen und mache seinen Thron noch größer als deinen Thron!« Und der König hat auf seinem Lager angebetet! (1Mo 47,31; Jos 4,14; 1Kön 1,37) 48 Und außerdem hat der König so gesprochen: Gelobt sei der HERR, der Gott Israels, der mir heute einen Thronerben gegeben hat vor meinen Augen! (2Sam 7,12; Ps 41,14; Ps 72,18; Ps 128,6; Ps 132,11; Lk 1,68; Lk 2,30; Hebr 11,16) 49 Da erschraken die Gäste, die bei Adonija waren, und sie brachen auf und gingen jeder seines Weges. (Spr 24,22; Spr 28,1) 50 Adonija aber fürchtete sich vor Salomo und machte sich auf, ging hin und ergriff die Hörner des Altars. (2Mo 21,14; 1Kön 2,28) 51 Das meldete man Salomo und sprach: Siehe, Adonija fürchtet den König Salomo; und siehe, er hält sich an den Hörnern des Altars und spricht: »Der König Salomo schwöre mir heute, dass er seinen Knecht nicht mit dem Schwert töten wolle!« (1Mo 32,7; 1Mo 32,11; 2Sam 9,6; 2Sam 9,8; Spr 10,24; Spr 24,21) 52 Und Salomo sprach: Wenn er sich als rechtschaffener Mann erweist, so soll kein Haar von ihm auf die Erde fallen; wenn aber Böses an ihm gefunden wird, so muss er sterben! (2Sam 14,11; 1Kön 2,22; Spr 13,6; Spr 16,12; Mt 10,30; Apg 27,34; Röm 13,4) 53 Und der König Salomo sandte hin und ließ ihn vom Altar herabholen. Und als er kam, fiel er vor dem König Salomo nieder. Salomo aber sprach zu ihm: Geh hin in dein Haus! (2Sam 14,24)

1 Now King David was old and advanced in years. And although they covered him with clothes, he could not get warm. 2 Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young woman be sought for my lord the king, and let her wait on the king and be in his service. Let her lie in your arms,[1] that my lord the king may be warm.” 3 So they sought for a beautiful young woman throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king. (Jos 19,18) 4 The young woman was very beautiful, and she was of service to the king and attended to him, but the king knew her not. 



5 Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. (2Sam 3,4; 2Sam 15,1) 6 His father had never at any time displeased him by asking, “Why have you done thus and so?” He was also a very handsome man, and he was born next after Absalom. (2Sam 3,3; 1Chr 3,2) 7 He conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest. And they followed Adonijah and helped him. (2Sam 2,13; 2Sam 2,18; 2Sam 20,25) 8 But Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and Nathan the prophet and Shimei and Rei and David’s mighty men were not with Adonijah. (2Sam 8,18; 2Sam 12,1; 2Sam 23,8; 1Kön 1,7; 1Kön 4,18) 9 Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and fattened cattle by the Serpent’s Stone, which is beside En-rogel, and he invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the royal officials of Judah, (Jos 15,7; 2Sam 17,17) 10 but he did not invite Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the mighty men or Solomon his brother. (2Sam 12,24) 



11 Then Nathan said to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, “Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king and David our lord does not know it? (1Kön 1,5) 12 Now therefore come, let me give you advice, that you may save your own life and the life of your son Solomon. 13 Go in at once to King David, and say to him, ‘Did you not, my lord the king, swear to your servant, saying, “Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then is Adonijah king?’ (1Kön 1,30; 1Chr 22,9) 14 Then while you are still speaking with the king, I also will come in after you and confirm[2] your words.” 15 So Bathsheba went to the king in his chamber (now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was attending to the king). 16 Bathsheba bowed and paid homage to the king, and the king said, “What do you desire?” 17 She said to him, “My lord, you swore to your servant by the Lord your God, saying, ‘Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’ (1Kön 1,13) 18 And now, behold, Adonijah is king, although you, my lord the king, do not know it. 19 He has sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army, but Solomon your servant he has not invited. (1Kön 1,7; 1Kön 1,9; 1Kön 1,10) 20 And now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. 21 Otherwise it will come to pass, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted offenders.” (5Mo 31,16; 2Sam 7,12; 1Kön 2,10) 22 While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in. 23 And they told the king, “Here is Nathan the prophet.” And when he came in before the king, he bowed before the king, with his face to the ground. 24 And Nathan said, “My lord the king, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne’? 25 For he has gone down this day and has sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king’s sons, the commanders[3] of the army, and Abiathar the priest. And behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’ (1Sam 10,24; 1Kön 1,19) 26 But me, your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon he has not invited. (1Kön 1,8; 1Kön 1,10; 1Kön 1,32) 27 Has this thing been brought about by my lord the king and you have not told your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?” 



28 Then King David answered, “Call Bathsheba to me.” So she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king. 29 And the king swore, saying, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my soul out of every adversity, (Rut 3,13) 30 as I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,’ even so will I do this day.” (1Kön 1,13; 1Kön 1,17) 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground and paid homage to the king and said, “May my lord King David live forever!” (Neh 2,3; Dan 2,4; Dan 3,9; Dan 5,10; Dan 6,6; Dan 6,21) 32 King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” So they came before the king. 33 And the king said to them, “Take with you the servants of your lord and have Solomon my son ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon. (2Sam 11,11; 2Sam 20,6; 2Chr 32,30; 2Chr 33,14) 34 And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet there anoint him king over Israel. Then blow the trumpet and say, ‘Long live King Solomon!’ (1Sam 10,1; 1Sam 10,24; 2Sam 15,10; 1Kön 1,25; 2Kön 9,13; 2Kön 11,14) 35 You shall then come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, for he shall be king in my place. And I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.” 36 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, “Amen! May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, say so. 37 As the Lord has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.” (1Sam 20,13; 1Kön 1,47) 38 So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule and brought him to Gihon. (2Sam 8,18) 39 There Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!” (2Mo 30,23; 1Kön 1,34; 1Chr 29,22; Ps 89,20) 40 And all the people went up after him, playing on pipes, and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth was split by their noise. 41 Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they finished feasting. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, “What does this uproar in the city mean?” 42 While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came. And Adonijah said, “Come in, for you are a worthy man and bring good news.” (2Sam 15,27; 2Sam 15,36; 2Sam 17,17; 2Sam 18,27) 43 Jonathan answered Adonijah, “No, for our lord King David has made Solomon king, 44 and the king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites. And they had him ride on the king’s mule. (1Kön 1,38) 45 And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon, and they have gone up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise that you have heard. (1Kön 1,33) 46 Solomon sits on the royal throne. (1Chr 29,23) 47 Moreover, the king’s servants came to congratulate our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon more famous than yours, and make his throne greater than your throne.’ And the king bowed himself on the bed. (1Mo 47,31; 1Kön 1,37) 48 And the king also said, ‘Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who has granted someone[4] to sit on my throne this day, my own eyes seeing it.’” (1Kön 3,6; Ps 132,11) 49 Then all the guests of Adonijah trembled and rose, and each went his own way. 50 And Adonijah feared Solomon. So he arose and went and took hold of the horns of the altar. (2Mo 27,2; 1Kön 2,28) 51 Then it was told Solomon, “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon, for behold, he has laid hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.’” 52 And Solomon said, “If he will show himself a worthy man, not one of his hairs shall fall to the earth, but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.” (1Sam 14,45) 53 So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and paid homage to King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”
