1 Luego el Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto para que el diablo lo sometiera a tentación. 2 Después de ayunar cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, tuvo hambre. 3 El tentador se le acercó y le propuso: ―Si eres el Hijo de Dios, ordena a estas piedras que se conviertan en pan. 4 Jesús le respondió: ―Escrito está: “No solo de pan vive el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios”. (5Mo 8,3) 5 Luego el diablo lo llevó a la ciudad santa e hizo que se pusiera de pie sobre la parte más alta del templo, y le dijo: 6 ―Si eres el Hijo de Dios, tírate abajo. Porque escrito está: »“Ordenará que sus ángeles te sostengan en sus manos, para que no tropieces con piedra alguna”». (Ps 91,11; Ps 91,12) 7 ―También está escrito: “No pongas a prueba al Señor tu Dios” —le contestó Jesús. (5Mo 6,16) 8 De nuevo lo tentó el diablo, llevándolo a una montaña muy alta, y le mostró todos los reinos del mundo y su esplendor. 9 ―Todo esto te daré si te postras y me adoras. 10 ―¡Vete, Satanás! —le dijo Jesús—. Porque escrito está: “Adora al Señor tu Dios y sírvele solamente a él”. (5Mo 6,13) 11 Entonces el diablo lo dejó, y unos ángeles acudieron a servirle. 



12 Cuando Jesús oyó que habían encarcelado a Juan, regresó a Galilea. 13 Partió de Nazaret y se fue a vivir a Capernaún, que está junto al lago en la región de Zabulón y de Neftalí, 14 para cumplir lo dicho por el profeta Isaías: 15 «Tierra de Zabulón y tierra de Neftalí, camino del mar, al otro lado del Jordán, Galilea de los gentiles; 16 el pueblo que habitaba en la oscuridad ha visto una gran luz; sobre los que vivían en densas tinieblas[1] la luz ha resplandecido». (Jes 9,1; Jes 9,2) 



17 Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a predicar: «Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos está cerca». 18 Mientras caminaba junto al mar de Galilea, Jesús vio a dos hermanos: uno era Simón, llamado Pedro, y el otro, Andrés. Estaban echando la red al lago, pues eran pescadores. 19 «Venid, seguidme —les dijo Jesús—, y os haré pescadores de hombres». 20 Al instante dejaron las redes y lo siguieron. 21 Más adelante vio a otros dos hermanos: Jacobo y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que estaban con su padre en una barca remendando las redes. Jesús los llamó, 22 y dejaron en seguida la barca y a su padre, y lo siguieron. 



23 Jesús recorría toda Galilea, enseñando en las sinagogas, anunciando las buenas nuevas del reino, y sanando toda enfermedad y dolencia entre la gente. 24 Su fama se extendió por toda Siria, y le llevaban todos los que padecían de diversas enfermedades, los que sufrían de dolores graves, los endemoniados, los epilépticos y los paralíticos, y él los sanaba. 25 Lo seguían grandes multitudes de Galilea, Decápolis, Jerusalén, Judea y de la región al otro lado del Jordán.

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (Mk 1,12; Lk 4,1; Hebr 2,18; Hebr 4,15) 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. (5Mo 9,9; 5Mo 9,18; 1Kön 19,8; Joh 4,6) 3 And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” (Mt 3,9; Mt 14,33; 1Thess 3,5) 4 But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (5Mo 8,3; Mt 4,7; Mt 4,10; Joh 4,34; Eph 6,17) 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple (Neh 11,18; Ps 46,4; Ps 48,1; Jes 48,2; Jes 52,1; Mt 27,53; Lk 4,9; Offb 11,2; Offb 21,2; Offb 22,19) 6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” (Ps 91,11) 7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” (5Mo 6,16; Jes 7,12; Mt 4,4; Mt 4,10) 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. (Lk 4,5) 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” (5Mo 6,13; 1Sam 7,3; 1Chr 21,1; Mt 4,4; Mt 4,7) 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him. (Mt 26,53; Lk 22,43) 



12 Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. (Mt 14,3; Mk 1,14; Lk 3,19; Lk 4,14; Joh 3,24) 13 And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, (Jos 19,32; Mt 2,23; Mt 9,1; Joh 6,1) 14 so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: (Mt 1,22) 15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— (Jes 9,1) 16 the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” (Hi 3,5; Ps 23,4; Jes 42,7; Am 5,8; Lk 1,79) 17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”[1] (Mt 3,2; Mk 1,14) 



18 While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. (Mt 4,13; Mk 1,16; Lk 5,2; Joh 1,40) 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”[2] (Mt 13,47) 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. 



23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. (Mt 8,16; Mt 9,35; Mt 13,19; Mt 13,54; Mt 14,35; Mt 24,14; Mk 1,21; Mk 1,34; Mk 1,39; Mk 6,55; Lk 4,15; Lk 4,43; Joh 18,20) 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. (Mt 4,23; Mt 8,6; Mt 9,2; Mt 9,6; Mt 17,15; Lk 2,2; Joh 10,21) 25 And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
