1Jesús se detuvo a observar y vio a los ricos que echaban sus ofrendas en el arca del templo.2También vio a una viuda pobre que echaba dos moneditas de poco valor.[1]3―Os aseguro —dijo— que esta viuda pobre ha echado más que todos los demás.
Señales del fin del mundo
4Todos ellos dieron sus ofrendas de lo que les sobraba; pero ella, de su pobreza, echó todo lo que tenía para su sustento.5Algunos de sus discípulos comentaban acerca del templo, de cómo estaba adornado con hermosas piedras y con ofrendas dedicadas a Dios. Pero Jesús dijo:6―En cuanto a todo esto que veis, llegará el día en que no quedará piedra sobre piedra; todo será derribado.7―Maestro —le preguntaron—, ¿cuándo sucederá eso, y cuál será la señal de que está a punto de suceder?8―Tened cuidado; no os dejéis engañar —les advirtió Jesús—. Vendrán muchos que usando mi nombre dirán: “Yo soy”, y: “El tiempo está cerca”. No los sigáis.9Cuando oigáis de guerras y de revoluciones, no os asustéis. Es necesario que eso suceda primero, pero el fin no vendrá en seguida.10»Se levantará nación contra nación y reino contra reino —continuó—.11Habrá grandes terremotos, hambre y epidemias por todas partes, cosas espantosas y grandes señales del cielo.12»Pero antes de todo esto os echarán mano y os perseguirán. Os entregarán a las sinagogas y a las cárceles, y por causa de mi nombre os llevarán ante reyes y gobernadores.13De esta manera tendréis oportunidad de dar testimonio ante ellos.14Pero tened en cuenta que no hay por qué preparar una defensa de antemano,15pues yo mismo os daré tal elocuencia y sabiduría para responder que ningún adversario podrá resistiros ni contradeciros.16Seréis traicionados aun por vuestros padres, hermanos, parientes y amigos, y a algunos de vosotros se le dará muerte.17Todo el mundo os odiará por causa de mi nombre.18Pero no se perderá ni un solo cabello de vuestra cabeza.19Si os mantenéis firmes, os salvaréis.[2]20»Ahora bien, cuando veáis Jerusalén rodeada de ejércitos, sabed que su desolación ya está cerca.21Entonces los que estén en Judea huyan a las montañas, los que estén en la ciudad salgan de ella, y los que estén en el campo no entren en la ciudad.22Ese será el tiempo del juicio cuando se cumplirá todo lo que está escrito.23¡Ay de las que estén embarazadas o amamantando en aquellos días! Porque habrá gran aflicción en la tierra, y castigo contra este pueblo.24Caerán a filo de espada y los llevarán cautivos a todas las naciones. Los gentiles pisotearán Jerusalén, hasta que se cumplan los tiempos señalados para ellos.25»Habrá señales en el sol, la luna y las estrellas. En la tierra, las naciones estarán angustiadas y perplejas por el bramido y la agitación del mar.26Se desmayarán de terror los hombres, temerosos por lo que va a sucederle al mundo, porque los cuerpos celestes serán sacudidos.27Entonces verán al Hijo del hombre venir en una nube con poder y gran gloria.28Cuando comiencen a suceder estas cosas, cobrad ánimo y levantad la cabeza, porque se acerca vuestra redención».29Jesús también les propuso esta comparación: ―Fijaos en la higuera y en los demás árboles.30Cuando brotan las hojas, sabéis por vosotros mismos que el verano está cerca.31Igualmente, cuando veáis que suceden estas cosas, sabed que el reino de Dios está cerca.32»Os aseguro que no pasará esta generación hasta que todas estas cosas sucedan.33El cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras jamás pasarán.34»Tened cuidado, no sea que se os endurezca el corazón por el vicio, la embriaguez y las preocupaciones de esta vida. De otra manera, aquel día caerá de improviso sobre vosotros,35pues vendrá como una trampa sobre todos los habitantes de la tierra.36Estad siempre vigilantes, y orad para que podáis escapar de todo lo que está por suceder, y presentaros delante del Hijo del hombre».37De día Jesús enseñaba en el templo, pero salía a pasar la noche en el monte llamado de los Olivos,38y toda la gente madrugaba para ir al templo a oírlo.

The Widow’s Offering
1Jesus[1] looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, (2Kön 12,9; Mk 12,41; Joh 8,20)2and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins.[2] (Lk 12,59)3And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple
5And while some were speaking of the temple, how it was adorned with noble stones and offerings, he said, (Mt 24,1; Mk 13,1)6“As for these things that you see, the days will come when there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” (Lk 17,22; Lk 19,43)7And they asked him, “Teacher, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?” (Apg 1,6)8And he said, “See that you are not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and, ‘The time is at hand!’ Do not go after them.
