Orden del Señor a Josué

1 Después de la muerte de Moisés, siervo del SEÑOR, el SEÑOR le dijo a Josué hijo de Nun, ayudante de Moisés: 2 «Mi siervo Moisés ha muerto. Por eso tú y todo este pueblo deberéis prepararos para cruzar el río Jordán y entrar a la tierra que os daré a vosotros los israelitas. 3 Tal como le prometí a Moisés, yo os entregaré a vosotros todo lugar que toquen vuestros pies. 4 Vuestro territorio se extenderá desde el desierto hasta el Líbano, y desde el gran río Éufrates, territorio de los hititas, hasta el mar Mediterráneo, que se encuentra al oeste. 5 Durante todos los días de tu vida, nadie será capaz de enfrentarse a ti. Así como estuve con Moisés, también estaré contigo; no te dejaré ni te abandonaré. 6 »Sé fuerte y valiente, porque tú harás que este pueblo herede la tierra que les prometí a sus antepasados. 7 Solo te pido que tengas mucho valor y firmeza para obedecer toda la ley que mi siervo Moisés te ordenó. No te apartes de ella para nada; solo así tendrás éxito dondequiera que vayas. 8 Recita siempre el libro de la ley y medita en él de día y de noche; cumple con cuidado todo lo que en él está escrito. Así prosperarás y tendrás éxito. 9 Ya te lo he ordenado: ¡Sé fuerte y valiente! ¡No tengas miedo ni te desanimes! Porque el SEÑOR tu Dios te acompañará dondequiera que vayas». 10 Entonces Josué dio la siguiente orden a los jefes del pueblo: 11 «Id por todo el campamento y decidle al pueblo que prepare provisiones, porque dentro de tres días cruzará el río Jordán para tomar posesión del territorio que Dios el SEÑOR le da como herencia». 12 A los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés, Josué les mandó: 13 ―Recordad la orden que os dio Moisés, siervo del SEÑOR: “Dios el SEÑOR os ha dado reposo y os ha entregado esta tierra”. 14 Vuestras mujeres, vuestros niños y vuestro ganado permanecerán en el territorio que Moisés os dio al este del Jordán. Pero vosotros, los hombres de guerra, cruzaréis armados al frente de vuestros hermanos. Les prestaréis ayuda 15 hasta que el SEÑOR les dé reposo, como ha hecho con vosotros, y hasta que ellos tomen posesión de la tierra que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios les da. Solo entonces podréis vosotros retornar a vuestras tierras y ocuparlas. Son las tierras que Moisés, siervo del SEÑOR, os dio al este del Jordán. 16 Ellos le respondieron a Josué: ―Nosotros obedeceremos todo lo que nos has mandado, e iremos adondequiera que nos envíes. 17 Te obedeceremos en todo, tal como hicimos con Moisés. Lo único que pedimos es que el SEÑOR esté contigo como estuvo con Moisés. 18 Cualquiera que se rebele contra tus palabras o que no obedezca lo que tú ordenes será condenado a muerte. Pero tú, ¡sé fuerte y valiente!

2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. (5Mo 11,24; Jos 14,9) 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. 6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. (5Mo 31,6; Jos 1,7; Jos 1,9; Jos 1,18)

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Ps 1,2; Ps 119,15) 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Joshua Assumes Command

10 And Joshua commanded the officers of the people, (5Mo 16,18) 11 “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’” (5Mo 9,1; 5Mo 11,31; Jos 3,2) 12 And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, 13 “Remember the word that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.’ (4Mo 32,20) 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but all the men of valor among you shall pass over armed before your brothers and shall help them, 15 until the Lord gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it, the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.” (5Mo 3,20; Jos 22,4) 16 And they answered Joshua, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. 17 Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you, as he was with Moses! (Jos 1,5) 18 Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be put to death.
