Rapadas están todas las cabezas, y afeitadas todas las barbas.3Todos, deshechos en llanto, van por las calles, vestidos de luto; ¡gimen en los techos y en las plazas!4Hesbón y Elalé claman a gritos, hasta Yahaza se escuchan sus clamores. Por eso gritan los valientes de Moab, y flaquea su entereza.5Mi corazón grita por Moab; sus fugitivos huyen hasta Zoar, hasta Eglat Selisiyá. Suben llorando por la cuesta de Luhit; ante el desastre, gritan desesperados por el camino de Joronayin.6Se han secado las aguas de Nimrín; se ha marchitado la hierba. Ya no hay vegetación, no ha quedado nada verde.7Por eso se llevaron, más allá del arroyo de los Sauces, las muchas riquezas que amasaron.8Su grito desesperado va recorriendo la frontera de Moab. Llega su gemido hasta Eglayin, y aun llega hasta Ber Elín.9Llenas están de sangre las aguas de Dimón, y aún más plagas le añadiré: enviaré un león contra los moabitas fugitivos y contra los que permanezcan en la tierra.

1An oracle concerning Moab. Because Ar of Moab is laid waste in a night, Moab is undone; because Kir of Moab is laid waste in a night, Moab is undone. (4Mo 21,15; 4Mo 21,28; Jes 14,28; Jes 16,7; Jes 16,11; Hes 25,8; Am 2,1; Zef 2,8)2He has gone up to the temple,[1] and to Dibon, to the high places[2] to weep; over Nebo and over Medeba Moab wails. On every head is baldness; every beard is shorn; (4Mo 21,30; 5Mo 34,1; Jes 3,24; Jes 13,6)3in the streets they wear sackcloth; on the housetops and in the squares everyone wails and melts in tears.4Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voice is heard as far as Jahaz; therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud; his soul trembles. (4Mo 32,37; Jer 48,34)5My heart cries out for Moab; her fugitives flee to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah.
