Un cer nou și un pământ nou

1 Apoi am văzut un cer nou și un pământ nou, căci primul cer și primul pământ trecuseră, și nici marea nu mai era. 2 Și am văzut cetatea cea sfântă, Noul Ierusalim, coborând din cer, de la Dumnezeu, pregătită ca o mireasă împodobită pentru soțul ei. 3 Am auzit un glas puternic ieșind de la tron și zicând: „Iată Cortul lui Dumnezeu cu oamenii! El Își va întinde Cortul în mijlocul lor^[1], iar ei vor fi poporul^[2] Lui. Și Dumnezeu Însuși va fi cu ei și va fi Dumnezeul lor. (Ex 25:8; Ex 40:34) 4 El va șterge orice lacrimă din ochii lor și moartea nu va mai fi. Nu va mai fi nici jale, nici strigăt, nici durere, pentru că lucrurile dintâi s‑au dus.“ 5 Cel Ce ședea pe tron a zis: „Iată, Eu fac toate lucrurile noi!“ A mai zis: „Scrie, pentru că aceste cuvinte sunt demne de încredere și adevărate!“ 6 Apoi mi‑a zis: „S‑a sfârșit! Eu sunt Alfa și Omega^[3], Începutul și Sfârșitul. Celui ce îi este sete îi voi da să bea fără plată din izvorul apei vieții. (Apo 1:8) 7 Cel ce învinge, va moșteni aceste lucruri, și Eu voi fi Dumnezeul Lui, iar el va fi fiul Meu. 8 Cât despre lași, necredincioși, scârboși, ucigași, curvari, vrăjitori, închinători la idoli și toți mincinoșii, partea lor este în lacul care arde cu foc și sulf, care este moartea a doua.“

Noul Ierusalim

9 Unul dintre cei șapte îngeri, care au avut cele șapte vase pline cu ultimele șapte urgii, a venit și a vorbit cu mine, zicând: „Vino! Îți voi arăta mireasa, soția Mielului!“^[4] (Ez 40:1) 10 M‑a dus în Duhul pe un munte mare și înalt și mi‑a arătat cetatea cea sfântă, Ierusalimul, coborând din cer, de la Dumnezeu. 11 Ea avea slava lui Dumnezeu, iar strălucirea ei era ca a unei pietre deosebit de prețioasă, ca un jasp, strălucind asemenea cristalului. 12 Avea un zid mare și înalt, avea douăsprezece porți, iar la porți – doisprezece îngeri. Pe ele erau scrise numele celor douăsprezece seminții ale fiilor lui Israel. 13 Trei porți erau spre răsărit, trei porți spre nord, trei porți spre sud și trei porți spre apus. 14 Zidul cetății avea douăsprezece temelii și pe ele erau cele douăsprezece nume ale celor doisprezece apostoli ai Mielului. 15 Cel care a vorbit cu mine avea o trestie de aur pentru măsurat, ca să măsoare cetatea, porțile și zidul ei. 16 Cetatea era așezată în formă de pătrat, lungimea ei fiind la fel cu lățimea. A măsurat cetatea cu trestia și era de douăsprezece mii de stadii^[5]. Lungimea, lățimea și înălțimea erau la fel. 17 A măsurat și zidul și era de o sută patruzeci și patru de coți^[6], după unitatea de măsură a omului, căci pe aceasta o folosea îngerul. 18 Zidul era construit din jasp, iar cetatea era din aur curat, ca sticla curată. 19 Temeliile zidului cetății erau decorate cu tot felul de pietre prețioase. Prima temelie era de jasp, a doua – de safir, a treia – de calcedonie, a patra – de smarald, 20 a cincea – de sardonix, a șasea – de sardiu, a șaptea – de crisolit, a opta – de beril, a noua – de topaz, a zecea – de crisopraz, a unsprezecea – de iacint, a douăsprezecea – de ametist.^[7] 21 Cele douăsprezece porți erau douăsprezece perle; fiecare poartă era dintr‑o singură perlă. Strada cetății era din aur curat, ca sticla transparentă. 22 N‑am văzut niciun templu în cetate, pentru că Domnul Dumnezeu – Cel Atotputernic – și Mielul sunt Templul ei. 23 Cetatea nu are nevoie nici de soare, nici de lună, ca să‑i dea lumină, pentru că o luminează slava lui Dumnezeu, iar Mielul este candela ei. 24 Neamurile vor umbla în lumina ei, iar regii pământului își vor aduce slava în ea. 25 Porțile ei nu vor fi închise niciodată ziua și acolo nu va fi noapte. 26 Slava și cinstea neamurilor vor fi aduse în ea. 27 Nimic întinat nu va intra în ea și nimeni care trăiește în spurcăciune și minciună, ci doar cei care sunt scriși în Cartea Vieții Mielului.

A new heaven and a new earth

1 I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth.’ The first heaven and the first earth were completely gone. There was no longer any sea. (Is 65:17) 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem. It was coming down out of heaven from God. It was prepared like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 I heard a loud voice from the throne. It said, ‘Look! God now makes his home with the people. He will live with them. They will be his people. And God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death.” And there will be no more sadness. There will be no more crying or pain. Things are no longer the way they used to be.’ (Is 25:8) 5 He who was sitting on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down. You can trust these words. They are true.’ 6 He said to me, ‘It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give water to anyone who is thirsty. The water will come from the spring of the water of life. It doesn’t cost anything! 7 Those who have victory will receive all this from me. I will be their God, and they will be my children. 8 But others will be thrown into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur. Those who are afraid and those who do not believe will be there. Murderers and those who make themselves impure will join them. Those who commit sexual sins and those who practise witchcraft will go there. Those who worship statues of gods and all who tell lies will be there too. The lake of fire is the second death.’

The new Jerusalem is the bride of the Lamb

9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke to me. The bowls were filled with the seven last plagues. The angel said, ‘Come. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.’ 10 Then he carried me away in a vision. The Spirit took me to a huge, high mountain. He showed me Jerusalem, the Holy City. It was coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of God. It gleamed like a very valuable jewel. It was like a jasper, as clear as crystal. 12 The city had a huge, high wall with 12 gates. Twelve angels were at the gates, one at each of them. On the gates were written the names of the 12 tribes of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east and three on the north. There were three gates on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had 12 foundations. Written on them were the names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb. 15 The angel who talked with me had a gold measuring rod. He used it to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square. It was as long as it was wide. The angel measured the city with the rod. It was 1,400 miles long. It was as wide and high as it was long. 17 The angel measured the wall as human beings measure things. It was 70 metres thick. 18 The wall was made out of jasper. The city was made out of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of jewel. The first foundation was made out of jasper. The second was made out of sapphire. The third was made out of agate. The fourth was made out of emerald. 20 The fifth was made out of onyx. The sixth was made out of ruby. The seventh was made out of chrysolite. The eighth was made out of beryl. The ninth was made out of topaz. The tenth was made out of turquoise. The eleventh was made out of jacinth. The twelfth was made out of amethyst. 21 The 12 gates were made from 12 pearls. Each gate was made out of a single pearl. The main street of the city was made out of gold. It was gold as pure as glass that people can see through clearly. 22 I didn’t see a temple in the city. That’s because the Lamb and the Lord God who rules over all are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or moon to shine on it. God’s glory is its light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by the light of the city. The kings of the world will bring their glory into it. 25 Its gates will never be shut, because there will be no night there. 26 The glory and honour of the nations will be brought into it. 27 Only what is pure will enter the city. No one who causes people to believe lies will enter it. No one who does shameful things will enter it either. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life will enter the city.
