Învățătura lui Isus despre rugăciune

1 Într‑o zi, Isus Se afla într‑un loc oarecare și Se ruga. După ce a terminat, unul din ucenicii Lui I‑a zis: – Doamne, învață‑ne să ne rugăm, așa cum i‑a învățat și Ioan pe ucenicii lui! (Mat 6:9; Mat 7:7) 2 El le‑a zis: – Când vă rugați, să ziceți astfel: „Tatăl nostru Care ești în ceruri, sfințească‑se Numele Tău! Vie Împărăția Ta, facă‑se voia Ta, precum în cer, așa și pe pământ! 3 Pâinea noastră, cea de toate zilele, dă‑ne‑o nouă în fiecare zi! 4 Și iartă‑ne păcatele noastre, pentru că și noi iertăm oricui ne este dator! Și nu ne duce în ispită,^[1] ci scapă‑ne de cel rău!“^[2] (Mat 26:41; Iac 1:13) 5 Apoi le‑a zis: – Are cineva dintre voi vreun prieten la care să se ducă în miez de noapte și să‑i spună: „Prietene, împrumută‑mi trei pâini, 6 pentru că a venit la mine, de pe drum, un prieten de‑al meu și n‑am nimic ce să‑i pun înainte!“, 7 iar acesta să‑i răspundă dinăuntru: „Nu mă deranja. Ușa este deja încuiată, iar copiii mei sunt cu mine în pat. Nu mă pot ridica să‑ți dau.“? 8 Vă spun că, deși nu s‑ar ridica să‑i dea pentru că‑i este prieten, totuși, ca să nu se facă de rușine^[3], până la urmă tot se va ridica și‑i va da orice are nevoie. 9 Prin urmare, vă spun: cereți și vi se va da; căutați și veți găsi; bateți și vi se va deschide! 10 Căci oricine cere primește; cel ce caută găsește, iar celui ce bate i se va deschide. 11 Cine este tatăl acela dintre voi, care, atunci când fiul său îi cere o pâine, să‑i dea în schimb o piatră, sau când îi cere un pește, să‑i dea un șarpe în loc de pește,^[4] (Mat 7:9) 12 sau când îi cere un ou, să‑i dea un scorpion? 13 Deci, dacă voi, care sunteți răi, știți să dați daruri bune copiilor voștri, cu cât mai mult Tatăl Care este în ceruri le va da Duhul Sfânt celor ce I‑L cer!?

Isus și Beelzebul

14 Isus alunga un demon care era mut. După ce demonul a ieșit, mutul a vorbit, iar mulțimile au rămas uimite. (Mat 12:22; Mat 12:43; Mar 3:22) 15 Unii dintre ei însă ziceau: – El alungă demonii cu ajutorul lui BEELZEBUL^[5], conducătorul demonilor. (Mat 12:24) 16 Iar alții, ca să‑L pună la încercare, căutau un semn din cer^[6] de la El. 17 Dar Isus, cunoscându‑le gândurile, le‑a zis: – Orice împărăție dezbinată împotriva ei înseși este pustiită. Iar o casă dezbinată împotriva ei înseși se prăbușește. 18 Și dacă Satan este dezbinat în el însuși, cum va dăinui împărăția lui?! Vă întreb aceasta fiindcă ziceți că Eu alung demonii cu BEELZEBUL! 19 Iar dacă Eu alung demonii cu BEELZEBUL, fiii^[7] voștri cu cine îi alungă? De aceea ei vor fi judecătorii voștri! 20 Dar dacă Eu alung demonii cu degetul lui Dumnezeu^[8], atunci Împărăția lui Dumnezeu a venit peste voi. (Mat 12:28) 21 Când cel puternic, pe deplin înarmat, își păzește propria locuință, bunurile lui sunt în siguranță. 22 Dar când vine unul și mai puternic și‑l învinge, îi ia toate armele în care s‑a încrezut și apoi împarte prăzile. 23 Cine nu este cu Mine este împotriva Mea, iar cine nu adună cu Mine risipește. 24 Când duhul necurat iese dintr‑un om, umblă prin locuri fără apă, căutând odihnă, dar n‑o găsește. Atunci își spune: „Mă voi întoarce în casa mea, de unde am ieșit!“ 25 Și când vine, o găsește măturată și împodobită. 26 Atunci se duce și mai ia alte șapte duhuri, mai rele decât el, și intrând, locuiesc acolo, iar starea din urmă a acelui om ajunge mai rea decât cea dintâi.

Adevărata fericire

27 În timp ce Isus spunea aceste lucruri, o femeie din mulțime și‑a înălțat glasul și a zis: – Fericit este pântecul care Te‑a purtat și fericiți sunt sânii care Te‑au alăptat! 28 Dar El a zis: – Fericiți sunt mai degrabă cei ce aud Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu și‑l păzesc!

Semnul profetului Iona

29 În timp ce numărul mulțimilor creștea, El a început să spună: – Această generație este o generație rea. Ea caută un semn, dar nu i se va da alt semn decât semnul lui Iona. (Mat 12:38) 30 Căci, așa cum a fost Iona un semn pentru niniviteni, tot așa va fi și Fiul Omului pentru generația aceasta. 31 Regina din sud se va ridica la judecată alături de oamenii din generația aceasta și‑i va condamna, pentru că ea a venit de la marginile pământului ca să asculte înțelepciunea lui Solomon, iar aici iată că este Ceva^[9] mai mare decât Solomon. 32 Bărbații din Ninive se vor ridica la judecată alături de această generație și o vor condamna, pentru că ei s‑au pocăit la mesajul proclamat de Iona, iar aici iată că este Ceva mai mare decât Iona.

Candela trupului

33 Nimeni nu aprinde o candelă ca s‑o pună într‑o ascunzătoare^[10] sau sub un obroc, ci o așază pe un sfeșnicar, astfel încât cei ce intră, să vadă lumina. (Mat 6:22) 34 Ochiul este candela trupului tău.^[11] Când ochiul tău este sănătos^[12], tot trupul tău este plin de lumină, dar când este rău, atunci trupul tău este plin de întuneric. 35 Ia seama deci ca lumina care este în tine să nu fie întuneric! 36 Prin urmare, dacă tot trupul tău este plin de lumină, fără să aibă vreo parte întunecată, va fi întru totul plin de lumină, ca atunci când te‑ar lumina o candelă cu lumina ei strălucitoare.

Isus îi acuză pe liderii religioși

37 În timp ce Isus vorbea, un fariseu L‑a rugat să mănânce la el. Isus a intrat și S‑a așezat la masă. (Mat 23:1) 38 Fariseul a rămas uimit când a văzut că Isus nu Se spălase înainte de masă.^[13] (Mar 7:3) 39 Domnul i‑a zis: – Voi, fariseii, curățați pe din afară paharul și farfuria, dar pe dinăuntru sunteți plini de jaf și de răutate. 40 Nesăbuiților, oare Cel Ce a făcut partea din afară n‑a făcut și partea dinăuntru? 41 Dați deci milostenie din lucrurile dinăuntru, și atunci toate vor fi curate pentru voi. 42 Dar vai de voi, fariseilor! Căci voi dați zeciuială din mentă, din tămâița de câmp^[14] și din orice legumă, dar neglijați judecata și dragostea lui Dumnezeu. Pe acestea trebuia să le faceți, iar pe acelea să nu le neglijați. 43 Vai de voi, fariseilor! Căci voi iubiți scaunul de onoare în sinagogi și saluturile în piețe! 44 Vai de voi! Căci voi sunteți ca mormintele care nu se văd și peste care oamenii umblă fără să știe!^[15] (Num 19:11) 45 Unul dintre învățătorii Legii, răspunzând, I‑a zis: – Învățătorule, spunând aceste lucruri, ne jignești și pe noi! 46 Dar El a zis: – Vai și de voi, învățători ai Legii! Căci îi încărcați pe oameni cu poveri dificil de purtat, iar voi înșivă nu atingeți poverile nici măcar cu unul din degetele voastre! 47 Vai de voi! Căci voi zidiți mormintele profeților pe care i‑au ucis strămoșii^[16] voștri! 48 Prin urmare, voi sunteți martori și încuviințați faptele strămoșilor voștri, căci ei i‑au ucis, iar voi le zidiți mormintele! 49 De aceea înțelepciunea lui Dumnezeu a zis: „Le voi trimite profeți și apostoli, însă pe unii dintre ei îi vor ucide, iar pe alții îi vor persecuta“, 50 ca să se ceară de la această generație sângele tuturor profeților, care a fost vărsat de la întemeierea lumii 51 – de la sângele lui Abel până la sângele lui Zaharia,^[17] care a pierit între altar și Templu. Da, vă spun că va fi cerut de la generația aceasta. (Gen 4:8; 2 Cro 24:20) 52 Vai de voi, învățători ai Legii! Căci ați luat cu voi cheia cunoașterii. Nici voi n‑ați intrat și i‑ați împiedicat astfel și pe cei ce intrau! 53 Când Isus a ieșit de acolo, cărturarii și fariseii au început să‑L critice cu înverșunare și să‑I pună întrebări ostile despre multe lucruri, 54 pândindu‑L, ca să vâneze vreun cuvânt ieșit din gura Lui.^[18]

Jesus teaches about prayer

1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples spoke to him. ‘Lord’, he said, ‘teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’ 2 Jesus said to them, ‘When you pray, this is what you should say. ‘ “Father, may your name be honoured. May your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread. 4 Forgive us our sins, as we also forgive everyone who sins against us. Keep us from falling into sin when we are tempted.” ’ 5 Then Jesus said to them, ‘Suppose you have a friend. You go to him at midnight and say, “Friend, lend me three loaves of bread. 6 A friend of mine on a journey has come to stay with me. I have no food to give him.” 7 And suppose the one inside answers, “Don’t bother me. The door is already locked. My children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.” 8 I tell you, that person will not get up. And he won’t give you bread just because he is your friend. But because you keep bothering him, he will surely get up. He will give you as much as you need. 9 ‘So here is what I say to you. Ask, and it will be given to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 10 Everyone who asks will receive. The one who searches will find. And the door will be opened to the one who knocks. 11 ‘Fathers, suppose your son asks for a fish. Which of you will give him a snake instead? 12 Or suppose he asks for an egg. Which of you will give him a scorpion? 13 Even though you are evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children. How much more will your Father who is in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’

Jesus and Beelzebul

14 Jesus was driving out a demon. The man who had the demon could not speak. When the demon left, the man began to speak. The crowd was amazed. 15 But some of them said, ‘Jesus is driving out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons.’ 16 Others tested Jesus by asking for a sign from heaven. 17 Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he said to them, ‘Any kingdom that fights against itself will be destroyed. A family that is divided against itself will fall. 18 If Satan fights against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because of what you claim. You say I drive out demons by the power of Beelzebul. 19 Suppose I do drive out demons with Beelzebul’s help. With whose help do your followers drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 20 But suppose I drive out demons with the help of God’s powerful finger. Then God’s kingdom has come upon you. 21 ‘When a strong man is completely armed and guards his house, what he owns is safe. 22 But when someone stronger attacks, he is overpowered. The attacker takes away the armour the man had trusted in. Then he divides up what he has stolen. 23 ‘Whoever is not with me is against me. And whoever does not gather with me scatters. 24 ‘What happens when an evil spirit comes out of a person? It goes through dry areas looking for a place to rest. But it doesn’t find it. Then it says, “I will return to the house I left.” 25 When it arrives there, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26 Then the evil spirit goes and takes seven other spirits more evil than itself. They go in and live there. That person is worse off than before.’ 27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out. She shouted, ‘Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and fed you.’ 28 He replied, ‘Instead, blessed are those who hear God’s word and obey it.’

The sign of Jonah

29 As the crowds grew larger, Jesus spoke to them. ‘The people of today are evil,’ he said. ‘They ask for a sign from God. But none will be given except the sign of Jonah. 30 He was a sign from God to the people of Nineveh. In the same way, the Son of Man will be a sign from God to the people of today. 31 The Queen of the South will stand up on judgment day with the people now living. And she will prove that they are guilty. She came from very far away to listen to Solomon’s wisdom. And now something more important than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will stand up on judgment day with the people now living. And the Ninevites will prove that those people are guilty. The men of Nineveh turned away from their sins when Jonah preached to them. And now something more important than Jonah is here.

The eye is the lamp of the body

33 ‘No one lights a lamp and hides it. No one puts it under a bowl. Instead, they put a lamp on its stand. Then those who come in can see the light. 34 Your eye is like a lamp for your body. Suppose your eyes are healthy. Then your whole body also is full of light. But suppose your eyes can’t see well. Then your body also is full of darkness. 35 So make sure that the light inside you is not darkness. 36 Suppose your whole body is full of light. And suppose no part of it is dark. Then your body will be full of light. It will be just as when a lamp shines its light on you.’

Six warnings

37 Jesus finished speaking. Then a Pharisee invited him to eat with him. So Jesus went in and took his place at the table. 38 But the Pharisee was surprised. He noticed that Jesus did not wash before the meal. 39 Then the Lord spoke to him. ‘You Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish,’ he said. ‘But inside you are full of greed and evil. 40 You foolish people! Didn’t the one who made the outside make the inside also? 41 Give freely to poor people to show what is inside you. Then everything will be clean for you. 42 ‘How terrible it will be for you Pharisees! You give God a tenth of your garden plants, such as mint and rue. But you have forgotten to be fair and to love God. You should have practised the last things without failing to do the first. 43 ‘How terrible for you Pharisees! You love the most important seats in the synagogues. You love having people greet you with respect in the market. 44 ‘How terrible for you! You are like graves that are not marked. People walk over them without knowing it.’ 45 An authority on the law spoke to Jesus. He said, ‘Teacher, when you say things like that, you say bad things about us too.’ 46 Jesus replied, ‘How terrible for you authorities on the law! You put such heavy loads on people that they can hardly carry them. But you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them. 47 ‘How terrible for you! You build tombs for the prophets. It was your people of long ago who killed them. 48 So you show that you agree with what your people did long ago. They killed the prophets, and now you build the prophets’ tombs. 49 So God in his wisdom said, “I will send prophets and apostles to them. They will kill some. And they will try to hurt others.” 50 So the people of today will be punished. They will pay for all the prophets’ blood spilled since the world began. 51 I mean from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah. He was killed between the altar and the temple. Yes, I tell you, the people of today will be punished for all these things. 52 ‘How terrible for you authorities on the law! You have taken away the key to the door of knowledge. You yourselves have not entered. And you have stood in the way of those who were entering.’ 53 When Jesus went outside, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law strongly opposed him. They threw a lot of questions at him. 54 They set traps for him. They wanted to catch him in something he might say.
