Teritoriul repartizat în Cisiordania

1 Acestea sunt teritoriile primite drept moștenire de către fiii lui Israel în țara Canaan, teritorii împărțite de preotul Elazar, de Iosua, fiul lui Nun, și de căpeteniile de familie ale semințiilor fiilor lui Israel. 2 Moștenirea le‑a fost dată prin sorți, așa cum poruncise DOMNUL prin Moise, pentru cele nouă seminții și jumătate. 3 Căci Moise dăduse o moștenire celor două seminții și jumătate, de cealaltă parte a Iordanului, însă leviților nu le dăduse nicio moștenire printre ei. 4 Căci urmașii lui Iosif erau două seminții, – Manase și Efraim –, iar ei nu dăduseră leviților niciun teritoriu în țară, ci doar cetăți pentru locuit, împreună cu pășunile acestora pentru turmele și averile lor. 5 Fiii lui Israel făcuseră așa cum DOMNUL îi poruncise lui Moise, și împărțiseră țara.

Teritoriul moștenit de Caleb

6 Fiii lui Iuda s‑au apropiat de Iosua la Ghilgal, iar Caleb, fiul chenizitului Iefune, i‑a zis: „Tu știi ce i‑a spus DOMNUL lui Moise, omul lui Dumnezeu, despre mine și despre tine, pe când eram la Kadeș-Barnea. 7 Eu aveam patruzeci de ani atunci când Moise, robul DOMNULUI, m‑a trimis din Kadeș-Barnea ca să cercetez țara, iar eu i‑am adus vești potrivit cu ceea ce era în inima mea. 8 Frații mei care se suiseră împreună cu mine au înmuiat inima poporului, însă eu L‑am urmat pe deplin pe DOMNUL, Dumnezeul meu. 9 În acea zi, Moise mi‑a jurat, zicând: «Teritoriul pe care l‑ai străbătut cu piciorul tău va fi moștenirea ta și a urmașilor tăi pentru totdeauna, pentru că ai urmat pe deplin calea DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul tău.»^[1] (Deut 1:36) 10 Acum, iată că DOMNUL m‑a ținut în viață așa cum a spus. Sunt patruzeci și cinci de ani, de când DOMNUL i‑a spus aceste cuvinte lui Moise, pe vremea când Israel străbătea pustia și iată‑mă astăzi, în vârstă de optzeci și cinci de ani! 11 Sunt la fel de puternic astăzi ca și în ziua în care Moise m‑a trimis și am tot atâta vigoare cât aveam atunci pentru a merge la luptă^[2]. 12 Dă‑mi deci muntele acesta despre care a vorbit DOMNUL în ziua aceea! Căci tu însuți ai auzit încă de pe atunci că acolo trăiesc anachiții^[3], iar cetățile sunt înalte și fortificate. Poate că DOMNUL va fi cu mine și îi voi alunga, așa cum a promis DOMNUL.“ (Ios 11:21) 13 Atunci Iosua l‑a binecuvântat pe Caleb, fiul lui Iefune, și i‑a dat Hebronul ca moștenire. 14 De aceea, Hebronul a rămas moștenirea lui Caleb, fiul chenizitului Iefune, până în ziua aceasta, pentru că L‑a urmat pe deplin pe DOMNUL, Dumnezeul lui Israel. 15 Înainte, Hebronul se numise Chiriat-Arba^[4]; Arba fusese un om cu seamă printre anachiți. După aceea țara s‑a odihnit de război.

Land for the tribes west of the River Jordan

1 The rest of the tribes of Israel received their shares of land in Canaan. Eleazar the priest and Joshua, the son of Nun, decided what each of the tribes should receive. The leaders of the tribes helped them make these decisions. 2 The shares of nine tribes and half of the tribe of Manasseh were decided by casting lots. That’s what the LORD had commanded through Moses. 3 Moses had given two tribes and the other half of the tribe of Manasseh their shares east of the River Jordan. But Moses had not given the Levites a share among the other tribes. 4 Manasseh and Ephraim were the sons of Joseph. They had become two tribes. The Levites didn’t receive any share of the land. They only received towns to live in and grasslands for their flocks and herds. 5 So the Israelites divided up the land, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

Joshua gives Hebron to Caleb

6 The people of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal. Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, spoke to Joshua. He said, ‘You know what the LORD said to Moses, the man of God. He spoke to him at Kadesh Barnea about you and me. 7 Moses, the servant of the LORD, sent me from Kadesh Barnea to check out the land. I was 40 years old at that time. I brought back an honest report to him. I told him exactly what I had seen. 8 Several other men of Israel went up with me. What they reported terrified the people. But I followed the LORD my God with my whole heart. 9 So on that day Moses made a promise to me. He said, “The land you have walked on will be your share. It will be the share of your children for ever. That’s because you have followed the LORD my God with your whole heart.” (Deut 1:36) 10 ‘The LORD has done just as he promised. He made the promise while Israel was wandering around in the desert. That was 45 years ago. He has kept me alive all this time. So here I am today, 85 years old! 11 I’m still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. I’m just as able to go out to battle now as I was then. 12 So give me this hill country. The LORD promised it to me that day. At that time you yourself heard that the Anakites were living there. You also heard that their cities were large and had high walls around them. But I’ll drive them out, just as the LORD said I would. He will help me do it.’ 13 Then Joshua blessed Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. He gave him Hebron as his share. 14 So ever since that time Hebron has belonged to Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite. That’s because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, with his whole heart. 15 Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba. It was named after Arba. He was the greatest man among the Anakites. So the land had peace and rest.
