A cincea urgie: molimă peste animale

1 Apoi DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Moise: „Du‑te la Faraon și spune‑i: «Așa vorbește DOMNUL, Dumnezeul evreilor: ‘Lasă‑Mi poporul să plece ca să‑Mi slujească. 2 Căci, dacă refuzi să‑l lași să plece și continui să‑l oprești, 3 iată, mâna DOMNULUI va aduce o molimă foarte grea peste vitele tale care sunt pe câmp: peste cai, peste măgari, peste cămile, peste cirezi și peste turme. 4 Dar DOMNUL va face deosebire între vitele lui Israel și vitele Egiptului pentru ca nimic să nu moară din ce este al fiilor lui Israel.’»“ 5 DOMNUL a hotărât o vreme, zicând: „Mâine DOMNUL va face acest lucru în țară.“ 6 În ziua următoare, DOMNUL a făcut întocmai: toate vitele egiptenilor au murit, dar dintre vitele fiilor lui Israel n‑a murit niciuna. 7 Faraon a trimis pe cineva să cerceteze și iată că niciuna dintre vitele fiilor lui Israel n‑a murit. Inima lui Faraon însă a rămas împietrită^[1] și tot nu a lăsat poporul să plece. (Ex 4:21)

A șasea urgie: bubele

8 DOMNUL le‑a zis din nou lui Moise și Aaron: „Umpleți‑vă mâinile cu cenușă din cuptor și Moise s‑o arunce spre cer, sub privirea lui Faraon. 9 Ea se va preface într‑un praf fin peste toată țara Egiptului și va cauza bube cu puroi pe oameni și pe animale, în toată țara Egiptului.“ 10 Ei au luat cenușă din cuptor și s‑au înfățișat înaintea lui Faraon. Moise a aruncat‑o spre cer și ea a cauzat bube cu puroi pe oameni și pe animale. 11 Magicienii^[2] n‑au putut să stea înaintea lui Moise din cauza bubelor, pentru că bubele erau și pe magicieni, ca pe toți egiptenii. (Gen 41:8) 12 Dar DOMNUL i‑a împietrit^[3] inima lui Faraon, și acesta nu i‑a ascultat, așa cum DOMNUL îi spusese lui Moise.

A șaptea urgie: grindina

13 După aceea, DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Moise: „Scoală‑te dis‑de‑dimineață, du‑te înaintea lui Faraon și spune‑i: «Așa vorbește DOMNUL, Dumnezeul evreilor: ‘Lasă‑Mi poporul să plece ca să‑Mi slujească, 14 căci de data aceasta Îmi voi trimite toate urgiile împotriva inimii tale, împotriva slujitorilor tăi și împotriva poporului tău, ca să știi că nu este nimeni ca Mine pe întreg pământul. 15 Căci, dacă Mi‑aș fi întins mâna și te‑aș fi lovit pe tine și poporul tău cu molimă, ai fi pierit de pe pământ. 16 Dar te‑am făcut să stai în picioare tocmai pentru scopul acesta: ca să‑ți arăt puterea Mea și astfel Numele Meu să fie vestit pe întreg pământul. 17 Încă mai continui să te ridici împotriva poporului Meu ca să nu‑l lași să plece? 18 Iată, mâine, pe vremea aceasta, voi face să plouă cu o grindină așa de grea, cum n‑a mai fost vreodată în Egipt, din ziua când a fost întemeiat și până acum. 19 De aceea, trimite oamenii ca să adăpostească, la loc sigur, vitele tale și tot ce ai pe câmp. Orice om și orice animal care va fi pe câmp și nu la adăpost va muri atunci când grindina va cădea peste el.’»“ 20 Aceia dintre slujitorii lui Faraon care s‑au temut de Cuvântul DOMNULUI și‑au adăpostit robii și vitele în case, 21 dar cei care n‑au pus la inimă Cuvântul DOMNULUI și‑au lăsat robii și vitele pe câmp. 22 DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Moise: „Întinde‑ți mâna spre cer ca să cadă grindină peste toată țara Egiptului: peste oameni, peste animale și peste plantele câmpului din țara Egiptului.“ 23 Când Moise și‑a întins toiagul spre cer, DOMNUL a trimis tunete și grindină, și a căzut foc pe pământ. DOMNUL a făcut să plouă cu grindină peste țara Egiptului: 24 era grindină și foc scânteind în mijlocul grindinii, o grindină atât de grea, cum n‑a mai fost vreodată în toată țara Egiptului de când a devenit ea o națiune. 25 Grindina a distrus tot ce era pe câmp în toată țara Egiptului, atât oameni, cât și animale; grindina a distrus toate plantele câmpului și orice copac de pe câmp. 26 Singurul loc în care n‑a căzut grindină a fost ținutul Goșen, unde locuiau fiii lui Israel. 27 Faraon a trimis slujitorii să‑i cheme pe Moise și pe Aaron și le‑a zis: – De data aceasta am păcătuit. DOMNUL este drept; eu și poporul meu suntem răi. 28 Rugați‑vă DOMNULUI, căci ne sunt de ajuns tunetele lui Dumnezeu și grindina! Vă las să plecați; nu mai trebuie să stați. 29 Moise i‑a răspuns: – Cum voi ieși din cetate, îmi voi ridica mâinile spre DOMNUL. Tunetele vor înceta și nu va mai cădea grindină, ca să recunoști că pământul este al DOMNULUI. 30 Cât despre tine și slujitorii tăi, știu că nu vă temeți încă de DOMNUL Dumnezeu. 31 Inul și orzul au fost distruse, pentru că orzul dăduse în spic și inul înflorise, 32 însă grâul și secara albă n‑au fost distruse, pentru că erau recolte târzii. 33 Moise a ieșit de la Faraon și din cetate și și‑a ridicat mâinile spre DOMNUL. Atunci tunetele și grindina au încetat, iar ploaia nu s‑a mai revărsat pe pământ. 34 Când Faraon a văzut că ploaia, grindina și tunetele au încetat, a păcătuit din nou și și‑a împietrit^[4] inima atât el, cât și slujitorii săi. (Ex 4:21) 35 Astfel inima lui Faraon s‑a împietrit^[5] și nu i‑a lăsat pe fiii lui Israel să plece, după cum spusese DOMNUL prin Moise. (Ex 4:21)

The plague on livestock

1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ‘Go to Pharaoh. Tell him, “The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says, ‘Let my people go. Then they will be able to worship me. 2 Do not refuse to let them go. Do not keep holding them back. 3 If you refuse, my powerful hand will bring a terrible plague on you. I will strike your livestock in the fields. I will strike your horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, sheep and goats. 4 But I will treat Israel’s livestock differently from yours. No animal that belongs to the people of Israel will die.’ ” ’ 5 The LORD set a time for the plague. He said, ‘Tomorrow I will send it on the land.’ 6 So the next day the LORD sent it. All the livestock of the Egyptians died. But not one animal that belonged to the Israelites died. 7 Pharaoh searched and found out what had happened. He discovered that not even one animal that belonged to the Israelites had died. But he was still very stubborn. He wouldn’t let the people go.

The plague of boils

8 Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said, ‘Take handfuls of ashes from a furnace. Let Moses toss them into the air in front of Pharaoh. 9 The ashes will turn into fine dust over the whole land of Egypt. Then painful boils will break out on people and animals all over the land. Their bodies will be covered with them.’ 10 So Moses and Aaron took ashes from a furnace and stood in front of Pharaoh. Moses tossed them into the air. Then boils broke out on people and animals alike. 11 The bodies of all the Egyptians were covered with boils. The magicians couldn’t stand in front of Moses because of the boils that were all over them. 12 But the LORD made Pharaoh stubborn. Pharaoh wouldn’t listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses.

The plague of hail

13 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ‘Get up early in the morning. Go to Pharaoh and say to him, “The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says, ‘Let my people go. Then they will be able to worship me. 14 If you do not let them go, I will send the full force of my plagues against you this time. They will strike your officials and your people. Then you will know that there is no one like me in the whole earth. 15 By now I could have reached out my hand. I could have struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. 16 But I had a special reason for making you king. I decided to show you my power. I wanted my name to become known everywhere on earth. 17 But you are still against my people. You will not let them go. 18 So at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm ever to fall on Egypt in its entire history. 19 Give an order now to bring your livestock inside to a safe place. Bring in everything that is outside. The hail will fall on all the people and animals that are left outside. They will die.’ ” ’ 20 The officials of Pharaoh who had respect for what the LORD had said obeyed him. They hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. 21 But others didn’t pay attention to what the LORD had said. They left their slaves and livestock outside. 22 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, ‘Reach out your hand towards the sky. Then hail will fall all over Egypt. It will beat down on people and animals alike. It will strike everything growing in the fields of Egypt.’ 23 Moses reached out his walking stick towards the sky. Then the LORD sent thunder and hail. Lightning flashed down to the ground. The LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt. 24 Hail fell and lightning flashed to and fro. It was the worst storm in Egypt’s entire history. 25 Hail struck everything in the fields all over Egypt. It fell on people and animals alike. It beat down everything growing in the fields. It tore all the leaves off the trees. 26 The only place it didn’t hail was in the area of Goshen. That’s where the people of Israel were. 27 Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron. ‘This time I’ve sinned,’ he said to them. ‘The LORD has done what is right. I and my people have done what is wrong. 28 Pray to the LORD, because we’ve had enough thunder and hail. I’ll let you and your people go. You don’t have to stay here any longer.’ 29 Moses replied, ‘When I’ve left the city, I’ll lift up my hands and pray to the LORD. The thunder will stop. There won’t be any more hail. Then you will know that the earth belongs to the LORD. 30 But I know that you and your officials still don’t have any respect for the LORD God.’ 31 The barley was ripe. The flax was in bloom. So they were both destroyed. 32 But the wheat and spelt weren’t destroyed. That’s because they ripen later. 33 Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. Moses lifted up his hands and prayed to the LORD. The thunder and hail stopped. The rain didn’t pour down on the land any longer. 34 Pharaoh saw that the rain, hail and thunder had stopped. So he sinned again. He and his officials became stubborn. 35 So Pharaoh was stubborn. He wouldn’t let the people of Israel go, just as the LORD had said through Moses.
