Израиль в руках мадианитян

1 Израильтяне вновь стали творить зло в глазах Господа, и Он на семь лет отдал их в руки мадианитян. 2 Мадианитяне так угнетали их, что израильтяне стали делать себе укрытия в горных расселинах и укрепления в пещерах. 3 Всякий раз, когда израильтяне сеяли, мадианитяне, амаликитяне и другие восточные народы вторгались в страну. 4 Они разбивали у них на земле свои лагеря, губили урожай до самой Газы и не оставляли Израилю никакого пропитания – ни овец, ни волов, ни ослов. 5 Они являлись со своим скотом и шатрами, словно рои саранчи. Ангел Господень приходит к Гедеону

11 Ангел Господень пришел и сел в Офре под дубом, который принадлежал авиезериту Иоашу. Его сын Гедеон молотил тогда пшеницу в давильне, чтобы укрыть ее от мадианитян. 12 Когда Ангел Господень явился ему, Он сказал: – Господь с тобой, могучий воин. 13 – Но Господин мой^[1], – ответил Гедеон, – если Господь с нами, то почему же все это случилось? Я Сам посылаю тебя. 15 – Но, Владыка^[2], – спросил Гедеон, – как мне спасти Израиль? Мой клан самый слабый в роде Манассии, а я самый незначительный в семье. 16 Господь ответил: – Я буду с тобой, и ты сразишь всех мадианитян, как одного человека. 17 Гедеон ответил: – Если я нашел у Тебя расположение, то дай мне знак, что это действительно Ты говоришь со мной. 18 Пожалуйста, не уходи отсюда, пока я не вернусь и не принесу свой дар, и не предложу его Тебе. Господь сказал: – Я буду ждать, пока ты не вернешься. 19 Гедеон пошел домой, приготовил козленка и сделал из ефы^[3] муки пресного хлеба. Положив мясо в корзину и налив похлебку в горшок, он принес это к Нему под дуб и положил там. 20 Ангел Господень сказал ему: – Возьми мясо и пресный хлеб, положи их на эту скалу и вылей похлебку. Гедеон сделал это. 21 Концом посоха, который был у Него в руке, Ангел Господень прикоснулся к мясу и пресному хлебу. Из скалы вырвалось пламя, которое пожрало мясо и хлеб. Гедеон разбивает мадианитян

33 Все мадианитяне, амаликитяне и другие восточные народы объединили силы, переправились через Иордан и встали лагерем в долине Изреель. 34 Дух Господа сошел на Гедеона, он затрубил в рог, и авиезериты собрались, чтобы идти за ним. 35 Он послал вестников по всей земле рода Манассии, призывая их к оружию, а также послал к Асиру, Завулону и Неффалиму, и они пришли к нему навстречу. 36 Гедеон сказал Богу: – Если Ты собираешься спасти Израиль моей рукой, как обещал, 37 то вот, я разложу на гумне настриженную шерсть. Если роса выпадет только на шерсть, а земля будет сухой, то я буду знать, что Ты спасешь Израиль моей рукой, как говорил. 38 Так и произошло. На следующий день Гедеон встал рано. Он стал выжимать шерсть и выжал из нее столько росы, что ее хватило бы на целую чашу. 39 Тогда Гедеон сказал Богу: – Не гневайся на меня. Позволь мне просить еще лишь раз. Дай мне устроить еще одно испытание с шерстью. На этот раз пусть шерсть останется сухой, а земля вокруг будет покрыта росой. 40 В ту ночь Бог сделал это. Сухой осталась только шерсть; вся земля была покрыта росой.

Midian Oppresses Israel

1 The people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord gave them into the hand of Midian seven years. (1Mo 25,2; 4Mo 25,17; Ri 2,19; Hab 3,7)

2 And the hand of Midian overpowered Israel, and because of Midian the people of Israel made for themselves the dens that are in the mountains and the caves and the strongholds. 5 For they would come up with their livestock and their tents; they would come like locusts in number—both they and their camels could not be counted—so that they laid waste the land as they came in. The Call of Gideon

11 Now the angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress to hide it from the Midianites. 13 And Gideon said to him, “Please, my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? 18 Please do not depart from here until I come to you and bring out my present and set it before you.” And he said, “I will stay till you return.” (1Mo 18,3; Ri 13,15) 19 So Gideon went into his house and prepared a young goat and unleavened cakes from an ephah^[2] of flour. The meat he put in a basket, and the broth he put in a pot, and brought them to him under the terebinth and presented them. 23 But the Lord said to him, “Peace be to you. Do not fear; you shall not die.” (Dan 10,19) 24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and called it, The Lord Is Peace. 25 That night the Lord said to him, “Take your father’s bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it (Ri 3,7) 26 and build an altar to the Lord your God on the top of the stronghold here, with stones laid in due order. Then take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah that you shall cut down.” (Dan 11,7; Dan 11,10; Dan 11,31) 27 So Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as the Lord had told him. But because he was too afraid of his family and the men of the town to do it by day, he did it by night.

Gideon Destroys the Altar of Baal

28 When the men of the town rose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was broken down, and the Asherah beside it was cut down, and the second bull was offered on the altar that had been built. 29 And they said to one another, “Who has done this thing?” And after they had searched and inquired, they said, “Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.” 30 Then the men of the town said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, for he has broken down the altar of Baal and cut down the Asherah beside it.” 31 But Joash said to all who stood against him, “Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him? Whoever contends for him shall be put to death by morning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because his altar has been broken down.” 32 Therefore on that day Gideon^[3] was called Jerubbaal, that is to say, “Let Baal contend against him,” because he broke down his altar. (Ri 7,1; 1Sam 12,11; 2Sam 11,21) 33 Now all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the East came together, and they crossed the Jordan and encamped in the Valley of Jezreel. (Jos 17,16; Ri 6,3) 34 But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon, and he sounded the trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called out to follow him. (Ri 3,10; Ri 3,27) 35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, and they too were called out to follow him. And he sent messengers to Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, and they went up to meet them. (Ri 7,24)

The Sign of the Fleece

36 Then Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said, (2Mo 4,1) 37 behold, I am laying a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece alone, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said.” 38 And it was so. When he rose early next morning and squeezed the fleece, he wrung enough dew from the fleece to fill a bowl with water. 39 Then Gideon said to God, “Let not your anger burn against me; let me speak just once more. Please let me test just once more with the fleece. Please let it be dry on the fleece only, and on all the ground let there be dew.” (1Mo 18,32) 40 And God did so that night; and it was dry on the fleece only, and on all the ground there was dew.
