Psalm 147

Psalm 147

English Standard Version

1 Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant,[1] and a song of praise is fitting. (Ps 33,1; Ps 92,1; Ps 135,1; Ps 135,3)2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. (5Mo 30,3; Ps 51,18; Ps 102,16; Jes 11,12; Jes 27,13; Jes 56,8; Hes 39,28)3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (Ps 34,18; Hes 34,16)4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. (1Mo 15,5; Jes 40,26)5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. (Hi 5,9; Ps 48,1; Jes 40,28; Nah 1,3)6 The Lord lifts up the humble;[2] he casts the wicked to the ground. (Ps 146,8)7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre! (2Mo 15,21; 1Chr 15,16; Ps 95,1)8 He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills. (Hi 5,10; Hi 38,27; Ps 104,14)9 He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry. (Hi 38,41; Ps 104,27)10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, (Ps 33,17)11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love. (Ps 33,18; Ps 149,4)12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!13 For he strengthens the bars of your gates; he blesses your children within you. (Neh 7,3)14 He makes peace in your borders; he fills you with the finest of the wheat. (2Mo 34,24; 5Mo 32,14; Ps 81,16; Ps 132,15; Spr 16,7; Jes 60,17)15 He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. (Ps 148,8)16 He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes. (Hi 37,6; Hi 38,29)17 He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold? (Hi 37,9; Hi 37,10)18 He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow. (Hi 37,12; Ps 33,9; Ps 107,20; Ps 147,15)19 He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules[3] to Israel. (5Mo 33,2; Ps 78,5; Mal 4,4)20 He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his rules.[4] Praise the Lord! (5Mo 4,7; 5Mo 4,32; Ps 135,1)
