1The dragon[1] stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name.2The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.3One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast.4People worshipped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshipped the beast and asked, ‘Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?’5The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months.6It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling-place and those who live in heaven.7It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.8All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast – all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.[2]9Whoever has ears, let them hear.10‘If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go. If anyone is to be killed[3] with the sword, with the sword they will be killed.’ This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people. (Jer 15:2)
The beast out of the earth
11Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon.12It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.13And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people.14Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honour of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.15The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.16It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads,17so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.18This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.[4] That number is 666.

Das Tier aus dem Meer
1Und ich sah aus dem Meer ein Tier[1] aufsteigen, das sieben Köpfe und zehn Hörner hatte und auf seinen Hörnern zehn Kronen und auf seinen Köpfen einen Namen der Lästerung. (Isa 37:4; Isa 37:23; Da 7:1; Da 7:25; Re 11:7; Re 12:3; Re 17:3; Re 17:9; Re 17:12; Re 17:15)2Und das Tier, das ich sah, glich einem Panther, und seine Füße waren wie die eines Bären und sein Rachen wie ein Löwenrachen; und der Drache gab ihm seine Kraft und seinen Thron und große Vollmacht. (Da 7:4; Lu 4:6)3Und ich sah einen seiner Köpfe wie zu Tode verwundet, und seine Todeswunde wurde geheilt. Und die ganze Erde sah verwundert dem Tier nach. (Re 17:8)4Und sie beteten den Drachen an, der dem Tier Vollmacht gegeben hatte, und sie beteten das Tier an und sprachen: Wer ist dem Tier gleich? Wer vermag mit ihm zu kämpfen? (Da 7:21; Da 8:12; Re 11:7; Re 13:4; Re 17:12)8Und alle, die auf der Erde wohnen, werden es anbeten, deren Namen nicht geschrieben stehen im Buch des Lebens des Lammes, das geschlachtet worden ist, von Grundlegung der Welt an. (Re 2:7)10Wenn jemand in Gefangenschaft führt, so geht er in die Gefangenschaft; wenn jemand mit dem Schwert tötet, so soll er durchs Schwert getötet werden. Das Tier aus der Erde
11Und ich sah ein anderes Tier aus der Erde aufsteigen, und es hatte zwei Hörner gleich einem Lamm und redete wie ein Drache. (Ps 58:5; Mt 7:15; Joh 8:44; Re 13:1; Re 16:13)12Und es übt alle Vollmacht des ersten Tieres aus vor dessen Augen und bringt die Erde und die auf ihr wohnen dazu, dass sie das erste Tier anbeten, dessen Todeswunde geheilt wurde. (Re 13:4)13Und es tut große Zeichen, sodass es sogar Feuer vom Himmel auf die Erde herabfallen lässt vor den Menschen. (Mt 24:24; 2Th 2:9; Re 16:14)14Und es verführt die, welche auf der Erde wohnen, durch die Zeichen, die vor dem Tier zu tun ihm gegeben sind, und es sagt denen, die auf der Erde wohnen, dass sie dem Tier, das die Wunde von dem Schwert hat und am Leben geblieben ist, ein Bild machen sollen. (Re 3:10; Re 6:10; Re 8:13; Re 17:2)15Und es wurde ihm gegeben, dem Bild des Tieres einen Geist zu verleihen, sodass das Bild des Tieres sogar redete und bewirkte, dass alle getötet wurden, die das Bild des Tieres nicht anbeteten. (Mt 12:43; 1Jo 4:1; Re 16:13; Re 18:2)16Und es bewirkt, dass allen, den Kleinen und den Großen, den Reichen und den Armen, den Freien und den Knechten, ein Malzeichen gegeben wird auf ihre rechte Hand oder auf ihre Stirn, (Re 14:9)17und dass niemand kaufen oder verkaufen kann als nur der, welcher das Malzeichen hat oder den Namen des Tieres oder die Zahl seines Namens. (Re 13:16; Re 13:18; Re 14:11)18Hier ist die Weisheit! Wer das Verständnis hat, der berechne die Zahl des Tieres, denn es ist die Zahl eines Menschen, und seine Zahl ist 666.
