1Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:2‘The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.3He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.4‘Then he sent some more servants and said, “Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.”5‘But they paid no attention and went off – one to his field, another to his business.6The rest seized his servants, ill-treated them and killed them.7The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.8‘Then he said to his servants, “The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.9So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.”10So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.11‘But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.12He asked, “How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?” The man was speechless.13‘Then the king told the attendants, “Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”14‘For many are invited, but few are chosen.’
Paying the poll-tax to Caesar
15Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.16They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. ‘Teacher,’ they said, ‘we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.17Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the poll-tax[1] to Caesar or not?’18But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, ‘You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?19Show me the coin used for paying the tax.’ They brought him a denarius,20and he asked them, ‘Whose image is this? And whose inscription?’21‘Caesar’s,’ they replied. Then he said to them, ‘So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.’22When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
Marriage at the resurrection
23That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.24‘Teacher,’ they said, ‘Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.25Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother.26The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh.27Finally, the woman died.28Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?’29Jesus replied, ‘You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.30At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.31But about the resurrection of the dead – have you not read what God said to you,32“I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.’ (Ex 3:6)33When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
The greatest commandment
34Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:36‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’37Jesus replied: ‘ “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (De 6:5)38This is the first and greatest commandment.39And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” (Le 19:18)40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’
Whose son is the Messiah?
41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,42‘What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?’ ‘The son of David,’ they replied.43He said to them, ‘How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him “Lord”? For he says,44‘ “The Lord said to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.’ ” (Ps 110:1)45If then David calls him “Lord”, how can he be his son?’46No-one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no-one dared to ask him any more questions.

Das Gleichnis vom königlichen Hochzeitsmahl
1Da begann Jesus und redete wieder in Gleichnissen zu ihnen und sprach: (Mt 13:3; Mt 21:33; Mt 24:32)2Das Reich der Himmel gleicht einem König, der für seinen Sohn das Hochzeitsfest veranstaltete. (Re 19:7)3Und er sandte seine Knechte aus, um die Geladenen zur Hochzeit zu rufen; aber sie wollten nicht kommen. (Pr 9:1; Ac 3:25)4Da sandte er nochmals andere Knechte und sprach: Sagt den Geladenen: Siehe, meine Mahlzeit habe ich bereitet; meine Ochsen und das Mastvieh sind geschlachtet, und alles ist bereit; kommt zur Hochzeit! (Isa 55:1)5Sie aber achteten nicht darauf, sondern gingen hin, der eine auf seinen Acker, der andere zu seinem Gewerbe; (Pr 1:24; Isa 53:1; Eze 3:7)6die Übrigen aber ergriffen seine Knechte, misshandelten und töteten sie. Die Frage nach der Steuer
15Da gingen die Pharisäer und hielten Rat, wie sie ihn in der Rede fangen könnten. (Ps 56:6; Isa 29:21; Lu 11:54)16Und sie sandten ihre Jünger samt den Herodianern zu ihm, die sprachen: Meister, wir wissen, dass du wahrhaftig bist und den Weg Gottes in Wahrheit lehrst und auf niemand Rücksicht nimmst; denn du siehst die Person der Menschen nicht an. (Ps 55:22; Mr 3:6; Joh 3:2; Jas 2:9)17Darum sage uns, was meinst du: Ist es erlaubt, dem Kaiser die Steuer zu geben, oder nicht?18Da aber Jesus ihre Bosheit erkannte, sprach er: Ihr Heuchler, was versucht ihr mich? Die Frage nach der Auferstehung
23An jenem Tag traten Sadduzäer zu ihm, die sagen, es gebe keine Auferstehung, und sie fragten ihn (2Ti 2:18)24und sprachen: Meister, Mose hat gesagt: Wenn jemand ohne Kinder stirbt, so soll sein Bruder dessen Frau zur Ehe nehmen und seinem Bruder Nachkommen erwecken. (Ge 38:8)25Nun waren bei uns sieben Brüder. Der erste heiratete und starb; und weil er keine Nachkommen hatte, hinterließ er seine Frau seinem Bruder.26Gleicherweise auch der andere und der dritte, bis zum siebten.27Zuletzt, nach allen, starb auch die Frau.28Wem von den Sieben wird sie nun in der Auferstehung als Frau angehören? Denn alle haben sie zur Frau gehabt.29Aber Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr irrt, weil ihr weder die Schriften noch die Kraft Gottes kennt. (Job 19:26; Ps 16:10; Ps 33:6; Isa 26:19; Jer 32:17; Ac 26:8; 1Co 6:14; 2Ti 3:7; 2Pe 3:16)30Denn in der Auferstehung heiraten sie nicht, noch werden sie verheiratet, sondern sie sind wie die Engel Gottes im Himmel. (Lu 20:35)31Was aber die Auferstehung der Toten betrifft, habt ihr nicht gelesen, was euch von Gott gesagt ist, der spricht: (Mt 21:16)32»Ich bin der Gott Abrahams und der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs«?[1] Gott ist aber nicht ein Gott der Toten, sondern der Lebendigen. (Ex 3:6; Ex 3:15; Ac 7:32)33Und als die Menge dies hörte, erstaunte sie über seine Lehre. (Mt 7:28)
Die Frage nach dem größten Gebot
34Als nun die Pharisäer hörten, dass er den Sadduzäern den Mund gestopft hatte, versammelten sie sich; (Ps 107:42)35und einer von ihnen, ein Gesetzesgelehrter, stellte ihm eine Frage, um ihn zu versuchen, und sprach:36Meister, welches ist das größte Gebot im Gesetz?37Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: »Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, lieben mit deinem ganzen Herzen und mit deiner ganzen Seele und mit deinem ganzen Denken«.[2] (De 6:5)38Das ist das erste und größte Gebot. (Ge 1:27; Eph 5:1; 1Jo 4:8)39Und das zweite ist ihm vergleichbar: »Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst«.[3] (Le 19:18; Mt 5:43; Mt 19:19; Jas 2:8)40An diesen zwei Geboten hängen das ganze Gesetz und die Propheten. (Mt 7:12; Ro 13:9; Ga 5:14)
Wessen Sohn ist der Christus?
41Als nun die Pharisäer versammelt waren, fragte sie Jesus (Mt 21:24)42und sprach: Was denkt ihr von dem Christus? Wessen Sohn ist er? Sie sagten zu ihm: Davids. (2Sa 7:12; Isa 11:1; Jer 23:5; Joh 3:2)43Er spricht zu ihnen: Wieso nennt ihn denn David im Geist »Herr«, indem er spricht: (2Sa 23:2; 2Pe 1:21)44»Der Herr hat zu meinem Herrn gesagt: Setze dich zu meiner Rechten, bis ich deine Feinde hinlege als Schemel für deine Füße«?[4] (Ps 110:1; Mr 16:19; 1Co 15:25)45Wenn also David ihn Herr nennt, wie kann er dann sein Sohn sein? (Ro 1:3)46Und niemand konnte ihm ein Wort erwidern. Auch getraute sich von jenem Tag an niemand mehr, ihn zu fragen. (Lu 14:6)
