1‘Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.2For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them.3“Why have we fasted,” they say, “and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?” ‘Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.4Your fasting ends in quarrelling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.5Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for people to humble themselves? Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed and for lying in sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord?6‘Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?7Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?8Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness[1] will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.9Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: here am I. ‘If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk,10and if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.11The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.12Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.13‘If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honourable, and if you honour it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,14then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.’ For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

1Rufe aus voller Kehle, schone nicht! Erhebe deine Stimme wie ein Schopharhorn und verkündige meinem Volk seine Übertretungen und dem Haus Jakob seine Sünde! (Jer 2:1; Eze 3:17; Mic 3:8)2Sie suchen mich Tag für Tag und begehren, meine Wege zu kennen, wie ein Volk, das Gerechtigkeit geübt und das Recht seines Gottes nicht verlassen hat; sie verlangen von mir gerechte Urteile, begehren die Nähe Gottes: (Isa 29:13; Isa 48:1; Jer 42:2; Jer 42:20; Mt 15:7; Tit 1:16; Jas 4:1; 1Pe 2:1)3»Warum fasten wir, und du siehst es nicht, warum kasteien wir unsere Seelen, und du beachtest es nicht?« — Seht, an eurem Fastentag geht ihr euren Geschäften nach und treibt alle eure Arbeiter an! (Da 9:3; Mt 6:16)6Ist nicht das ein Fasten, an dem ich Gefallen habe: dass ihr ungerechte Fesseln losmacht, dass ihr die Knoten des Joches löst, dass ihr die Unterdrückten freilasst und jegliches Joch zerbrecht? (Ne 5:10; Jer 34:8; Jon 3:8; Mt 3:8)7Besteht es nicht darin, dass du dem Hungrigen dein Brot brichst und arme Verfolgte in dein Haus führst, dass, wenn du einen Entblößten siehst, du ihn bekleidest und dich deinem eigenen Fleisch nicht entziehst? (Job 31:19; Eze 18:7; Mt 25:35; Ro 12:13; 1Jo 3:17)8Dann wird dein Licht hervorbrechen wie die Morgenröte, und deine Heilung wird rasche Fortschritte machen; deine Gerechtigkeit wird vor dir hergehen, und die Herrlichkeit des HERRN wird deine Nachhut sein! (Job 11:17; Ps 85:14; Isa 60:1; Isa 60:19; Jer 33:6)9Dann wirst du rufen, und der HERR wird antworten; du wirst schreien, und er wird sagen: Hier bin ich! Wenn du das Joch aus deiner Mitte hinwegtust, das [höhnische] Fingerzeigen und das unheilvolle Reden; (Ps 145:18; Isa 58:6; Jer 29:12; Mt 7:7)10wenn du dem Hungrigen dein Herz darreichst und die verschmachtende Seele sättigst — dann wird dein Licht in der Finsternis aufgehen, und dein Dunkel wird sein wie der Mittag! (Ps 37:6; Ps 41:2; Isa 58:7; Isa 58:8)11Der HERR wird dich ohne Unterlass leiten und deine Seele in der Dürre sättigen und deine Gebeine stärken; du wirst sein wie ein wohlbewässerter Garten und wie eine Wasserquelle, deren Wasser niemals versiegen. (Ps 23:2; Ps 37:19; Ps 37:25; Isa 57:18; Jer 17:8; Joh 4:14)12Und die aus dir [hervorgehen,] werden die Trümmer der Vorzeit wieder aufbauen, du wirst die Grundmauern früherer Geschlechter wieder aufrichten; und man wird dich nennen »Der die Breschen vermauert und die Straßen wiederherstellt, damit man [dort] wohnen kann«. (Isa 32:18; Eze 37:25; Am 9:14)13Wenn du am Sabbat deinen Fuß zurückhältst, dass du nicht an meinem heiligen Tag das tust, was dir gefällt; wenn du den Sabbat deine Lust nennst und den heiligen [Tag] des HERRN ehrenwert; wenn du ihn ehrst, sodass du nicht deine Gänge erledigst und nicht dein Geschäft treibst, noch nichtige Worte redest; (Ge 2:3; Ex 20:8; Isa 56:2; Heb 4:9)14dann wirst du an dem HERRN deine Lust haben; und ich will dich über die Höhen des Landes führen und dich speisen mit dem Erbe deines Vaters Jakob!
