1In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it –2at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, ‘Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.’ And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot.3Then the Lord said, ‘Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,[1]4so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared – to Egypt’s shame.5Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame.6In that day the people who live on this coast will say, “See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?” ’

Weissagung gegen Ägypten und Kusch
1In dem Jahr, als der Tartan[1] nach Asdod kam, als ihn Sargon, der König von Assyrien, sandte und er gegen Asdod kämpfte und es einnahm, (1Sa 5:1; 2Ki 18:17; 2Ch 26:6)2zu jener Zeit hatte der HERR durch Jesaja, den Sohn des Amoz, so gesprochen: Geh, lege das Sacktuch ab von deinen Hüften und zieh die Sandalen aus von deinen Füßen! Und er machte es so, ging entblößt[2] und barfuß. (1Sa 19:24; 2Ki 19:1; Isa 15:3; Mic 1:8; Mic 1:11; Joh 21:7; Re 11:3)3Da sprach der HERR: Gleichwie mein Knecht Jesaja drei Jahre lang entblößt und barfuß einhergegangen ist, als Zeichen und Warnung für Ägypten und Kusch, (Isa 8:18; Jer 13:1; Eze 14:8)4so wird der König von Assyrien die gefangenen Ägypter und die zur Verbannung bestimmten Kuschiter, Knaben und Greise entblößt und barfuß und mit entblößtem Gesäß wegführen, zur Schande Ägyptens. (2Sa 10:4; Jer 13:22; Jer 13:26)5Da werden dann diejenigen verzagen und zuschanden werden, die sich auf Kusch verließen und sich mit Ägypten brüsteten. (2Ki 18:21; Isa 30:3; Eze 29:6)6Und die Bewohner dieses Küstenlandes werden an jenem Tag sagen: Siehe, so steht es mit unserer Zuflucht, zu der wir geflohen sind um Hilfe und Rettung vor dem König von Assyrien!
