1Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.2You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country.3But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt,4he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites.5And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.’6Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded them.7Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Aaron’s staff becomes a snake
8The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,9‘When Pharaoh says to you, “Perform a miracle,” then say to Aaron, “Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,” and it will become a snake.’10So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake.11Pharaoh then summoned the wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts:12each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.13Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.
The plague of blood
14Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go.15Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the river. Confront him on the bank of the Nile, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake.16Then say to him, “The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness. But until now you have not listened.17This is what the Lord says: by this you will know that I am the Lord: with the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood.18The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.” ’19The Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron, “Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt – over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs – and they will turn to blood.” Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels[1] of wood and stone.’20Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood.21The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt.22But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.23Instead, he turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart.24And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the river.

Und Aaron warf seinen Stab vor den Pharao und vor seine Knechte hin, und er wurde zur Schlange. (Am 9:3)11Da rief der Pharao die Weisen und Zauberkundigen. Und auch die ägyptischen Zauberer taten dasselbe mit ihren Zauberkünsten. Die erste Plage: Wasser wird zu Blut
14Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Das Herz des Pharao ist verstockt; er weigert sich, das Volk ziehen zu lassen. (Ex 8:15; Ex 10:1; Heb 12:25)15Geh am Morgen hin zum Pharao; siehe, er wird hinaus ans Wasser gehen; tritt ihm entgegen am Ufer des Nils und nimm den Stab in deine Hand, der zur Schlange geworden ist, (Ex 8:20; Eze 29:3)16und sprich zu ihm: Der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer, hat mich zu dir gesandt, um dir zu sagen: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir in der Wüste dient! Aber siehe, du hast bisher nicht hören wollen. (Ex 7:26; Ho 2:16)17Darum, so spricht der HERR: Daran sollst du erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin: Siehe, ich will mit dem Stab, den ich in meiner Hand habe, das Wasser schlagen, das im Nil ist, und es soll in Blut verwandelt werden, (Ex 7:5; Ex 7:20; 1Sa 17:46; 1Ki 20:28; 2Ki 19:19; Re 8:8)18sodass die Fische im Nil sterben müssen und der Nil stinken wird; und es wird die Ägypter ekeln, das Wasser aus dem Nil zu trinken. (Ex 8:5; Ex 8:16; Ex 9:22; Ex 9:33)20Und Mose und Aaron machten es so, wie es ihnen der HERR geboten hatte. Und er erhob den Stab und schlug vor dem Pharao und seinen Knechten das Wasser, das im Nil war; da wurde alles Wasser im Nil in Blut verwandelt. (Ps 78:44)21Und die Fische im Nil starben, und der Nil wurde stinkend, sodass die Ägypter das Nilwasser nicht trinken konnten; und das Blut war im ganzen Land Ägypten. (Ex 7:18; Re 8:9)22Aber die ägyptischen Zauberer taten dasselbe mit ihren Zauberkünsten. Und so verstockte sich das Herz des Pharao, und er hörte nicht auf sie, so wie der HERR es gesagt hatte. (Ex 7:3; Ex 7:11; Re 13:12)23Und der Pharao wandte sich um und ging heim und nahm sich auch das nicht zu Herzen. (Pr 28:14; Jer 5:3; Jer 36:24)24Aber alle Ägypter gruben um den Nil herum nach Trinkwasser; denn das Nilwasser konnten sie nicht trinken. (Jer 14:3)25Und das währte sieben Tage lang, nachdem der HERR den Nil geschlagen hatte. (Ge 41:2; Ge 41:29)
Die zweite Plage: Frösche
26Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Geh hinein zum Pharao und sprich zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Lass mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir dient! (Ex 4:23; Ex 5:1; Ex 7:16; Ex 8:20; Ex 9:1; Ex 9:13; Ex 10:3)27Wenn du dich aber weigerst, es ziehen zu lassen, siehe, so will ich dein ganzes Gebiet mit Fröschen plagen, (Ex 7:14; Ex 9:2; Ps 78:45; Ps 105:30; Pr 1:24; Isa 1:20; Re 16:13)28und der Nil wird von Fröschen wimmeln; die sollen heraufkommen in dein Haus und in deine Schlafkammer und auf dein Bett; auch in die Häuser deiner Knechte, unter dein Volk, in deine Backöfen und in deine Backtröge; (Ex 8:2)29und die Frösche sollen auf dich und auf dein Volk und auf alle deine Knechte kriechen.
