New International Version

1 Better the poor whose way of life is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse. 2 Desire without knowledge is not good – how much more will hasty feet miss the way! 3 A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the Lord. 4 Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them. 5 A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not go free. 6 Many curry favour with a ruler, and everyone is the friend of one who gives gifts. 7 The poor are shunned by all their relatives – how much more do their friends avoid them! Though the poor pursue them with pleading, they are nowhere to be found.^[1] 8 The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper. 9 A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will perish. 10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury – how much worse for a slave to rule over princes! 11 A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offence. 12 A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favour is like dew on the grass. 13 A foolish child is a father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof. 14 Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. 15 Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry. 16 Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life, but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die. 17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. 18 Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death. 19 A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty; rescue them, and you will have to do it again. 20 Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. 21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. 22 What a person desires is unfailing love^[2]; better to be poor than a liar. 23 The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble. 24 A sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth! 25 Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke the discerning, and they will gain knowledge. 26 Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother is a child who brings shame and disgrace. 27 Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. 28 A corrupt witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil. 29 Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.

1 بهتر است انسان فقير باشد و با صداقت زندگی كند تا اينكه از راه نادرست ثروتمند شود. 2 داشتن دل و جرأت بدون حكمت بیفايده است و عجله باعث اشتباه میشود. 3 انسان با حماقتش زندگی خود را تباه میكند و بعد تقصير را به گردن خداوند میاندازد. 4 شخص ثروتمند دوستان بسيار پيدا میكند، اما وقتی كسی فقير میشود هيچ دوستی برايش باقی نمیماند. 5 شاهد دروغگو بیسزا نمیماند و كسی كه دائم دروغ میبافد جان به در نخواهد برد. 6 مردم دوست دارند پيش بزرگان، خود شيرينی كنند و با كسانی دوست شوند كه بذل و بخشش میكنند. 7 وقتی انسان فقير شود حتی برادرانش او را ترک میكنند چه رسد به دوستانش، و تلاش او برای بازيافتن آنها به جايی نمیرسد. 8 هر كه در پی حكمت است جانش را دوست دارد و آنكه برای حكمت ارزش قايل شود سعادتمند خواهد شد. 9 شاهد دروغگو بیسزا نمیماند و كسی كه دائم دروغ میبافد هلاک خواهد شد. 10 شايسته نيست كه آدم احمق در ناز و نعمت زندگی كند و يا يک برده بر اميران حكومت راند. 11 كسی كه خشم خود را فرو مینشاند عاقل است و آنكه از تقصيرات ديگران چشمپوشی میكند سرافراز خواهد شد. 12 غضب پادشاه مانند غرش شير است، اما خشنودی او مثل شبنمی است كه بر سبزه مینشيند. 13 فرزند نادان بلای جان پدرش است و غرغرهای زن بهانهگير مثل قطرات آبی است كه دائم در حال چكيدن میباشد. 14 خانه و ثروت از اجداد به ارث میرسد، اما زن عاقل بخشش خداوند است. 15 كسی كه تنبل است و زياد میخوابد، گرسنه میماند. 16 احكام خدا را نگه دار تا زنده بمانی، زيرا هر كه آنها را خوار بشمارد خواهد مرد. 17 وقتی به فقير كمک میكنی مثل اين است كه به خداوند قرض میدهی و خداوند است كه قرض تو را پس خواهد داد. 18 فرزند خود را تا دير نشده تربيت كن؛ اگر غفلت نمايی زندگی او را تباه خواهی كرد. 19 اگر كسی تندخويی میكند بگذار عواقبش را ببيند و مانع او نشو، چون در غير اين صورت او به تندخويی خود ادامه خواهد داد. 20 اگر به پند و اندرز گوش دهی تا آخر عمرت از حكمت برخوردار خواهی بود. 21 انسان نقشههای زيادی در سر میپروراند، اما نقشههايی كه مطابق با خواست خدا باشد اجرا خواهد شد. 22 مهربانی شخص باعث محبوبيت او میشود. بهتر است شخص فقير باشد تا اينكه با نادرستی زندگی كند. 23 خداترسی به انسان حيات میبخشد و او را كامياب گردانده از هر بلايی محفوظ میدارد. 24 آدم تنبل دستش را به طرف بشقاب دراز میكند، ولی از فرط تنبلی لقمه را به دهان خود نمیگذارد. 25 مسخره كننده را تنبيه كن تا مايهٔ عبرت جاهلان شود. اشتباهات شخص فهميده را به او گوشزد نما تا فهميدهتر شود. 26 پسری كه با پدرش بدرفتاری میكند و مادرش را از خانه بيرون میراند، مايه ننگ و رسوايی است. 27 پسرم، از گوش دادن به تعليمی كه تو را از حكمت دور میكند خودداری نما. 28 شاهد پست و فرومايه عدالت را به بازی میگيرد و از گناه كردن لذت میبرد. 29 مسخرهكنندگان و احمقان، شديداً مجازات خواهند شد.
