1One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[1] the people were crowding round him and listening to the word of God.2He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets.3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.’5Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.’6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.7So they signalled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.8When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, ‘Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!’9For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken,10and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.’11So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
Jesus heals a man with leprosy
12While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.[2] When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’13Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’ And immediately the leprosy left him.14Then Jesus ordered him, ‘Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.’15Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their illnesses.16But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Jesus forgives and heals a paralysed man
17One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal those who were ill.18Some men came carrying a paralysed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus.19When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.20When Jesus saw their faith, he said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven.’21The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, ‘Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?’22Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, ‘Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?23Which is easier: to say, “Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up and walk”?24But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.’ So he said to the paralysed man, ‘I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.’25Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God.26Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, ‘We have seen remarkable things today.’
Jesus calls Levi and eats with sinners
27After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus said to him,28and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.29Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.30But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, ‘Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?’31Jesus answered them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but those who are ill.32I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.’
Jesus questioned about fasting
33They said to him, ‘John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.’34Jesus answered, ‘Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them?35But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.’36He told them this parable: ‘No-one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old.37And no-one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.38No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.39And no-one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, “The old is better.” ’

نخستين شاگردان عيسی
1روزی عيسی در كنار درياچهٔ جنيسارت ايستاده بود و عده بسياری برای شنيدن كلام خدا نزد او گرد آمده بودند.2آنگاه عيسی دو قايق خالی در ساحل درياچه ديد كه ماهيگيرها از آنها بيرون آمده بودند و تورهای خود را پاک میكردند.3پس سوار يكی از آن قايقها شد و به شمعون كه صاحب قايق بود، فرمود كه آن را اندكی از ساحل دور نمايد تا در آن نشسته، از آنجا مردم را تعليم دهد.4پس از آنكه سخنان خود را به پايان رسانيد، به شمعون فرمود: «اكنون قايق را به جای عميق درياچه ببر، و تورهايتان را به آب بيندازيد تا ماهی فراوان صيد كنيد!»5شمعون در جواب گفت: «استاد، ديشب زياد زحمت كشيديم ولی چيزی صيد نكرديم. اما اكنون به دستور تو، يكبار ديگر تورها را خواهم انداخت!»6اين بار آنقدر ماهی گرفتند كه نزديک بود تورها پاره شوند!7بنابراين از همكاران خود در قايق ديگر كمک خواستند. طولی نكشيد كه هر دو قايق از ماهی پر شد، به طوری كه نزديک بود غرق شوند!8وقتی شمعون پطرس به خود آمد و پی برد كه چه معجزهای رخ داده است، در مقابل عيسی زانو زد و گفت: «سَروَر من، نزديک من نيا، چون من ناپاكتر از آنم كه در حضور تو بايستم.»9در اثر صيد آن مقدار ماهی، او و همكارانش وحشتزده شده بودند.10همكاران او، يعقوب و يوحنا، پسران زبدی نيز همان حال را داشتند. عيسی به پطرس فرمود: «نترس! از اين پس، مردم را برای خدا صيد خواهی كرد!»11وقتی به خشكی رسيدند، بیدرنگ هر چه داشتند، رها كردند و به دنبال عيسی راه افتادند.
عيسی جذامی را شفا میبخشد
12روزی عيسی در يكی از شهرها بود كه ناگاه يک جذامی او را ديد و پيش پايهايش به خاک افتاد و گفت: «سَروَر من، اگر بخواهی، میتوانی مرا از جذام پاکسازی!»13عيسی دست خود را دراز كرد و آن جذامی را لمس نمود و گفت: «البته كه میخواهم. پاک شو!» همان لحظه، جذام او برطرف گرديد.14عيسی به او فرمود: «در اين باره با كسی سخن نگو، بلكه نزد كاهن برو تا تو را معاينه كند. سپس طبق شريعت موسی، قربانی مخصوص شفا از جذام را تقديم كن تا به اين ترتيب نشان دهی كه شفا يافتهای.»15كارهای عيسی روزبهروز بيشتر زبانزد مردم میشد و همه دستهدسته میآمدند تا پيغام او را بشنوند و از امراض خود شفا يابند.16ولی عيسی بيشتر اوقات برای دعا به نقاط دور افتاده در خارج شهر میرفت.
شفای مرد افليج
17روزی عيسی در خانهای مشغول تعليم مردم بود. عدهای از علمای دين يهود و فريسیها نيز از اورشليم و ساير شهرهای جليل و يهوديه در آنجا حضور داشتند. در همان حال، عيسی با قدرت خداوند، بيماران را شفا میبخشيد.18-19در آن ميان، چند نفر آمدند و مرد فلجی را بر روی بستری به همراه آوردند. آنها كوشيدند كه خود را از ميان انبوه جمعيت نزد عيسی برسانند، اما نتوانستند. پس به پشت بام رفتند و سفالهای سقف بالای سر عيسی را برداشتند و بيمار را با بسترش پايين فرستادند و مقابل عيسی گذاشتند.20وقتی عيسی ايمان ايشان را ديد، به آن مرد فلج فرمود: «ای دوست، گناهانت آمرزيده شد!»21علما و فريسيانی كه در آنجا نشسته بودند، با خود فكر كردند: «چه كفری! مگر اين شخص خود را كه میداند؟ غير از خدا، چه كسی میتواند گناهان مردم را ببخشد؟»22عيسی فوراً متوجه افكار آنان شد و فرمود: «چرا سخن مرا كفر میپنداريد؟23-24من اين قدرت و اختيار را دارم كه گناه انسان را ببخشم. ولی میدانم كه سخن گفتن آسان است؛ ديگران نيز ممكن است همين ادعا را بكنند. پس حال اين مرد را شفا میبخشم تا بدانيد كه ادعای من پوچ نيست!» سپس رو به آن مرد زمينگير كرد و فرمود: «برخيز و بسترت را جمع كن و به خانه برو!»25آن مرد در برابر چشمان همه، فوراً از جا برخاست، بستر خود را برداشت و در حالی که با تمام وجود خدا را شكر میكرد، به خانه رفت.26حيرت همهٔ حضار را فرا گرفته بود. ايشان با ترس آميخته به احترام خدا را شكر میكردند و میگفتند: «امروز شاهد اتفاقات عجيبی بوديم!»
يک باجگير، شاگرد عيسی میشود
27پس از آن، وقتی عيسی از شهر خارج میشد، يكی از مأمورين باج و خراج را ديد كه در محل كارش نشسته است. نام اين شخص، لاوی بود. عيسی به او فرمود: «تو نيز بيا مرا پيروی كن!»28همان لحظه، لاوی از همه چيز دست كشيد و به دنبال عيسی به راه افتاد.29مدتی بعد، لاوی در خانه خود ضيافت بزرگی به افتخار عيسی ترتيب داد. جمعی از همكاران سابق او و ميهمانان ديگر نيز دعوت داشتند.30اما فريسیها و علمای وابسته به ايشان نزد شاگردان عيسی رفته، لب به شكايت گشودند و گفتند: «چرا شما با اين افراد گناهكار، بر سر يک سفره مینشينيد؟»31عيسی در جواب ايشان گفت: «بيماران نياز به پزشک دارند، نه تندرستان!32من آمدهام تا گناهكاران را به توبه دعوت كنم، نه آنانی را كه خود را عادل و مقدس میپندارند!»
سؤال درباره روزه
33يكبار به عيسی گفتند: «شاگردان يحيی اغلب اوقات در روزه به سر میبرند و نماز میخوانند. شاگردان فريسیها نيز چنين میكنند. اما چرا شاگردان تو، هميشه در حال خوردن و نوشيدن هستند؟»34عيسی در جواب، از ايشان پرسيد: «آيا در جشن عروسی، تا وقتی كه داماد آنجاست، میتوانيد ميهمانان را به روزه داشتن وادار كنيد؟35اما زمانی میرسد كه داماد كشته خواهد شد؛ آنگاه ايشان روزه خواهند گرفت.»36سپس عيسی مَثَلی آورد و گفت: «كسی لباس نو را پاره نمیكند تا تكهای از پارچه آن را به لباس كهنه وصله بزند، چون نه فقط لباس نو از بين میرود، بلكه لباس كهنه نيز با وصله نو، بدتر میشود.37همچنين كسی شراب تازه را در مَشک كهنه نمیريزد، چون شراب تازه، مَشک كهنه را پاره میكند، آنگاه هم شراب میريزد و هم مَشک از بين میرود.38شراب تازه را بايد در مشک تازه ريخت.39اما پس از نوشيدن شراب كهنه، ديگر كسی تمايلی به شراب تازه ندارد، چون میگويد كه شراب كهنه بهتر است.»
