A prophecy against Babylon

1 A prophecy against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw: 2 Raise a banner on a bare hilltop, shout to them; beckon to them to enter the gates of the nobles. 3 I have commanded those I prepared for battle; I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath – those who rejoice in my triumph. 4 Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The Lord Almighty is mustering an army for war. 5 They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens – the Lord and the weapons of his wrath – to destroy the whole country. 6 Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty.^[1] 7 Because of this, all hands will go limp, every heart will melt with fear. 8 Terror will seize them, pain and anguish will grip them; they will writhe like a woman in labour. They will look aghast at each other, their faces aflame. 9 See, the day of the Lord is coming – a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger – to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. 10 The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light. 11 I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. 12 I will make people scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir. 13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the Lord Almighty, in the day of his burning anger. 14 Like a hunted gazelle, like sheep without a shepherd, they will all return to their own people, they will flee to their native land. 15 Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword. 16 Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated. 17 See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold. 18 Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants, nor will they look with compassion on children. 19 Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the pride and glory of the Babylonians,^[2] will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah. 20 She will never be inhabited or lived in through all generations; there no nomads will pitch their tents, there no shepherds will rest their flocks. 21 But desert creatures will lie there, jackals will fill her houses; there the owls will dwell, and there the wild goats will leap about. 22 Hyenas will inhabit her strongholds, jackals her luxurious palaces. Her time is at hand, and her days will not be prolonged.

1 اين است پيغامی كه اشعيا (پسر آموص) دربارهٔ بابل از خدا دريافت كرد: 2 پرچم جنگ را بر تپهای بلند برافرازيد و سربازان را فرا خوانيد و دروازههای مجلل بابل را به آنها نشان دهيد تا به سوی آنها يورش برند. 3 خداوند سپاه مقدس و شجاع خود را كه مشتاق خدمتش هستند فرا خوانده است تا كسانی را كه بر ايشان غضبناک است مجازات كند. 4 صدايی در کوهها به گوش میرسد! اين صدا، صدای جمع شدن قومهای جهان است. خداوند قادر متعال آنها را برای جنگ آماده میكند. 5 آنها را از سرزمينهای بسيار دور میآورد تا ايشان را همچون اسلحهای در دست بگيرد و توسط آنها سراسر خاک بابل را ويران كند و غضب خود را فرو نشاند. 6 ناله كنيد، زيرا روز خداوند نزديک است روزی كه خدای قادر مطلق شما را هلاک كند. 7 در آن روز، دستهای همه از ترس سست خواهد شد و دلها آب خواهد گرديد. 8 همه هراسان خواهند شد و دردی شديد مانند درد زنی كه میزايد وجودشان را فرا خواهد گرفت. بر يكديگر نظر خواهند افكند و از ديدن صورتهای دگرگون شدهٔ يكديگر به وحشت خواهند افتاد. 9 اينک روز هولناک خشم و غضب خداوند فرا میرسد! زمين ويران خواهد شد و گناهكاران هلاک خواهند گرديد. 10 ستارگان آسمان نور نخواهند داشت، خورشيد هنگام طلوع تاريک خواهد شد و ماه روشنايی نخواهد بخشيد. 11 خداوند میفرمايد: «من دنيا را به خاطر شرارتش، و بدكاران را به سبب گناهانشان مجازات خواهم كرد. تمام متكبران را خوار خواهم ساخت و همهٔ ظالمان را ذليل خواهم كرد. 12 زندگان از طلای خالص نيز كميابتر خواهند بود. 13 من، خداوند قادر متعال، در روز خشم طوفانی خود، آسمانها را خواهم لرزاند و زمين را از جای خود تكان خواهم داد. 14 «بيگانگانی كه در بابل ساكن باشند به سرزمينهای خود خواهند رفت. آنان مانند گلهای پراكنده و آهويی كه مورد تعقيب شكارچی قرار گرفته باشد به وطن خود فرار خواهند كرد. 15 هر كه گير بيفتد با شمشير يا نيزه كشته خواهد شد. 16 اطفال كوچک در برابر چشمان والدينشان به زمين كوبيده خواهند شد؛ خانهها غارت و زنان بیعصمت خواهند گرديد. 17 «من مادها را كه توجهی به طلا و نقره ندارند به ضد بابلیها برخواهم انگيخت تا بابلیها نتوانند با پيشكش كردن ثروت خود جان خود را نجات دهند. 18 سپاهيان مهاجم بر جوانان و كودكان رحم نخواهند كرد و آنها را با تير و كمان هدف قرار خواهند داد. 19 به اين ترتيب، خدا بابل را كه باشكوهترين ممالک و زينت فخر كلدانيان است مانند سدوم و عموره با خاک يكسان خواهد كرد. 20 بابل ديگر هرگز آباد و قابل سكونت نخواهد شد. حتی اعراب چادرنشين نيز در آنجا خيمه نخواهند زد و چوپانان گوسفندان خود را در آن مكان نخواهند چرانيد. 21 تنها حيوانات وحشی در آنجا به سر خواهند برد و روباهها در آن محل لانه خواهند كرد. جغدها در خانههای آنجا ساكن خواهند شد و بزهای وحشی در آنجا جست و خيز خواهند كرد. 22 صدای زوزهٔ گرگها و شغالها از درون كاخهای زيبای بابل به گوش خواهد رسيد. آری، زمان نابودی بابل نزديک است!»
