Psalm 29

New International Version



1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name; worship the Lord in the splendour of his[1] holiness. 3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. 5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion[2] like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks[3] and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, ‘Glory!’ 10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King for ever. 11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

1 Ein Psalmlied von David. Gebt Jahwe, ihr himmlischen Wesen, / gebt Jahwe Ehre und Macht! 2 Gebt Jahwe die Ehre, die ihm gebührt, / betet ihn an in heiliger Pracht. 3 Die Stimme Jahwes schallt über der Flut. / Der Gott der Herrlichkeit lässt Donner dröhnen, / Jahwe beherrscht das gewaltige Meer. 4 Die Stimme Jahwes voller Macht, / ist herrlich und furchtbar zugleich. 5 Die Stimme Jahwes spaltet mächtige Bäume, / Libanonzedern zersplittern vor ihm. 6 Der Libanon hüpft vor ihm wie ein Kalb, / wie ein junger Büffel springt der Hermon[1] auf. 7 Die Stimme Jahwes sprüht zuckende Flammen. 8 Die Stimme Jahwes lässt Wüsten erzittern. / Auch die Wüste von Kadesch[2] erbebt. 9 Die Stimme Jahwes wirbelt Eichen empor, / reißt ganze Wälder kahl. / Und in seinem Tempel ruft alles: "Ehre sei Gott!" 10 Jahwe thront über den Fluten, / er herrscht als ewiger König! 11 Seinem Volk verleiht er Kraft / und segnet es mit Frieden!
